Me Too - Best Keyboard I've Used

    • Written by from Hilton

As an electrical engineer for 32 years now and having experienced the evolution of keyboards as it occurred, I can honestly say that this little guy is now the best I've used. I've owned an MBP 15" Retina for a year now (as my sole computing device) and have also recently purchased the Matias Mini Tactile Pro with the mechanical switches used in the old Apple extended keyboard, what many say was the best keyboard Apple ever made.

These are all great keyboards and, ultimately, this is a very subjective issue. But, for me, the new Apple Wireless takes the cake. The touch response has a little more throw, "kickback" and springiness than the MBP but nowhere near the travel and "clickiness" (or the sheer volume) of the Tactile Pro. IMO, the Apple Wireless perfectly nails the balance between these opposite ends of the spectrum.

For the life of me, I don't understand the lower-rated reviews, including those complaining about the lack of numeric keypad. How many people actually even use one anymore (accountants, etc, aside) and does it even begin to make up for the fact that your mouse (or trackpad) cannot be located in a more ergonomic position, closer to your body and keyboard? If you really need one, Apple makes one, albeit wired. But, isn't it most likely the case that if you need an extended board, it's going to be sitting in one place most of the time anyways?

Regarding battery life, I haven't owned mine long enough yet to tell, so I'm hoping I get the same results as those reporting great results in that category too. Apparently this newer model automaticaly powers down when not in use and then back up when tapped into use again, so the complaint about not knowing when it's turned off have been addressed in the newer models.

    Batteries Get Stuck

    • Written by from Toronto

The poor design of this keyboard does not allow you to remove the batteries. If you don't change your batteries frequently and they get swollen your keyboard will be useless and you will not be able to remove the batteries. I have been through a few of these keyboards and while it may look pretty do yourself a keyboard and the the full wired keyboard for $25 less and a numeric keypad! PS no batteries to change or get stuck either!

Too small and different size than my MacBook Air keyboard

    • Written by from PASADENA

This wireless keyboard came with a new iMac 27" that I purchased recently. While I love the large screen for the iMac I am frustrated by the keyboard.

I toggle between my MacBook Air when I am out of the office and my iMac when in the office. The keyboard causes me all sorts of problems.

    1) It is too small

    2) The keys feel like they are closer together on the wireless keyboard vs. the laptop, causing all sorts of problems

    3) The ergonomics required to use the keyboard are bad -- there is no place rest ones wrists as is the case with a laptop

It seems that Apple does not make a wireless FULL SIZE keyboard so I may need to switch to a wired one.

Great keyboard, stops working in two years.

    • Written by from New York

This is a well built keyboard. Probably the most beautiful around, keys are easy to type and the integration with OSX is great with the special function buttons.
Unfortunately, they stop working after 2 years. I am on my second wireless keyboard from Apple, and they both simply stopped pairing with the computer. Tried everything I could find in the internet to no avail. Of course, Apple has no real customer service, so to the garbage they went.
I would like to buy another one, but after two of them going kaput in my hands, this would have been silly. Will buy a Chinese fake instead. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't make the small USB keyboards anymore.

    Nice Product BUT...

    • Written by from Whittier

it's just a tad to small for big hands, and if your use to the "old" white mac keyboard then it will take getting use to because of the space difference, but after a while you get use to it, the numerical keypad isn't missed that much, but I love that since it is wireless, the cord isn't missed at all! THIS IS PRETTY COOL KEYBOARD!

    Easy to use, but......

    • Written by from Richmond

Sorry, it is second times I can not log in my new I Mac, because of the wireless keyboard. It was not working, I have no clues why. I did change battery but still not work. I have to go to Apple Store ask for help. Maybe wire keyboard is better.

Don't like the smushed keys and the lack of the delete key

    • Written by from Cardiff by the Sea

I am a writer and use my Mac 8-10 hours a day. While I love the WiFi aspect of the new keyboard, I don't like the missing delete key (the delete key is now a backspace key and you have to hold down the function key to get it to delete from the right). Nor do I like the lack of space between the letter keys and the caps lock and shift keys on the left. I hit the caps lock key all the time not meaning to. All that is really annoying and I do hope they rectify this in the next iteration.

Very useful on iPad and durable

    • Written by from Clarence Center

My school was donated money for all the students to have iPads. Some of them use the cases by Logitech or Zagg. After about a month or two they would lose keys and fall apart. I've had the Apple keyboard for my iPad for about 6 months now and I haven't even replaced the batteries yet. And it uses two AA batteries and I can use it with my MacBook Air when I DJ.

    Outstanding Keyboard!

    • Written by from Coon Rapids

I was very reluctant to get this keyboard, I am so happy I did.

Colleagues thought that the small size would be an issue, it isn't and I have big hands. All of the keys are where my fingers think that they will be and the response/feel that it provides is outstanding!

Best keyboard I purchased for work/non-gaming ever!

I am a Window Senior Systems Engineer, so I do a bit of typing every day and it is great!

    Nice job Apple!

    No numeric pad

    • Written by from Ste. Anne

The keyboard itself is great but how can it be that a company like Apple doesn't have a numeric pad on their wireless keyboard? Makes no sense to me.

Love the keyboard, but would like to see a USB Port in the future

    • Written by from Songpa-Gu

I love this keyboard, its light, simple and beautiful. But doesn't have a usb port or a thunderbolt port. I use to have a usb wired-keyboard with a usb port directly on the keyboard. It was very convenient, especially if you go through a lot of usb drives. I would like to see that again on a wireless keyboard. ^^

I understand that the keyboard is using bluetooth technology to connect wirelessly, and that usb 3 speeds are much higher than bluetooth, so there may be some technology issues. But i think it can be done in the near future.

    I hate this keyboard

    • Written by from Nutley

I had to replace my keyboard and I decided to give this one a go. I hate it already. I hate that Apple doesn't make a full size version. I bought the numeric keypad extension but why should I have to do that? It costs more money, requires more batteries, is made of plastic, and because this keyboard is smaller the arrow keys are in the wrong place and the Page/Home keys are missing, as are F13 and up.

I understand that some people may not care about this, but I do and this was the only version I could get. I have to decide if I'm going to keep this or go back to a wired keyboard. It would be a lot better if Apple just made this in a full sized version.

i do have to say that this is definitely the best keyboard that I've ever used, and that would be because of its responsiveness and that it is bluetooth. the bluetooth is probably the most awesome feature about this keyboard. i would say that this keyboard is absolutely worth its money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Could be better

    • Written by from Cold Brook

I've been working with Mac's for many years and it is very common for us to replace the peripherals, particularly the mouse and keyboard with another product, usually Microsoft. They are relatively inexpensive, well made and ugly. Oh well, two out of three aint bad.

    Bad Keys

    • Written by from Ocean View

I just purchased my third keyboard today from Apple, I selected the Apple Standard and I hope I have better luck with it then I did with the 2 wireless keyboards I have purchased in the last 4 years. I love my Mac, but both of the keyboards I purchased have had keys stop responding after about 2 years. Now, in order to type, I'm using BOTH keyboards. My A key went out on keyboard #2, luckily I had kept Keyboard #1 - which had lost it's delete key and h key. I've been typing this way for a few weeks now, looking for a way to repair either board, no luck - so, I'm out another $69. I don't recommend buying this keyboard, unless you budget replacements.

Stopped working after a couple years

    • Written by from Austin

This keyboard worked well for a couple of years and then inexplicably stopped working. I bought a less expensive off-brand version of the same type of keyboard for $30 and so far it has lasted almost as long as the $70 apple wireless keyboard.
