The Magic Mouse is Truly Magical!!!!

    • Written by from Copiague

The fact that it loses its blue tooth connection EVERY 10 seconds to maybe a minute, is magic. Just to get to this spot in the review took 20 minutes! I am disabled so to return it would have been a hassle. When I first got the not so magic mouse, I came here looking for answers and at one point thought I did find an answer. I followed the directions and it did work better…for one day. Now it has gotten so bad that I was forced to buy a different mouse, which I did and am waiting for the delivery. If I could have given a rating of no stars, I would have. So save your money and the aggravation and get yourself a different Mac compatible mouse! BTW, I know 2 people who threw theirs out!

    Garbage

    • Written by from Schenectady

Listen to the other reviews. Try working with a speadsheet and have the thing zoom your sheet 100 columns to the right out of the blue.

I was in the Albany, NY store a few days ago. They have 8-9 iMacs and a few minis. It used to be that only 2 or 3 had the trackpad and the rest were the "magic" mouse. Now, there is only ONE iMac with the magic mouse. I wonder why that is?

Maybe I'm "holding it wrong". This mouse should be recalled. I want it swapped for a wired mouse.

    NO STARS EVER!!

    • Written by from Dulwich Hill

This is the biggest piece of rubbish in the history of computing. This mouses loses its connection with my laptop, positioned no more than 10 cm away, literally every single time I attempt to use it; sometime multiple times. I spend more time switching it off and on again, and clicking and moving it randomly until the connection is restored than actually using it for its intended purpose. I have used more disposable batteries in this device alone than in all other battery operated devices in the remainder of my life, and even with Apple branded rechargeable batteries, which I stupidly also purchased, I am constantly switching them. This is the most frustrating device you will ever own!

Lucky it's a looker as this is a lemon.

    • Written by from Hillarys

A lot of people complain about the ergonomics. I've never personally had a problem with the ergonomics because I stop using it out of frustration long before any physical discomfort can set in. The acceleration/deceleration is poor - shocking in fact. When slowing down it's like moving the cursor through lumpy molasses. And then you find you've run out of room and need to pick the thing up in order to continue the movement because you haven't quite reached where you needed to go.

"built-in software lets you configure Magic Mouse any way you want" the synopsis on this site tells us. This is simply not true. For example, the acceleration isn't adjustable in the default settings. Why, why, why? You can change this setting in the terminal which helps somewhat but this doesn't fix the problem of its inexact, jittery movement to begin with. This, it turns out, can be partially remedied with a mouse pad that my 6 year old $15 mouse never needed. I suspect the rest of its jitters is down to the bluetooth connection (an overrated technology if there ever was one).

On the plus side, the gestures work well and it is nice to look at.

Poor, Apple, poor. Your marketing department sure can sell a story though. All style, no substance.

Buy this mouse only if you don't mind troubleshooting, workarounds and compromises.

    Terrible for spreadsheets

    • Written by from Palo Alto

I really, really want to like this mouse. But it is utterly useless when using spreadsheets. It seemingly randomly jumps hundreds of cells, meaning that I spend more time going back to the desired cell than actually entering information. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I've put my "magic" mouse on the shelf and have mouse a logitech mouse. Not as pretty, but lets me do my work...

    I HATE THIS MOUSE!

    • Written by from PRAIRIE VILLAGE

I have renamed this mouse the "Phantom Mouse" because it will take me places where my hand did not move it! I am a graphic designer and my job is stressful enough as it is. I don't need this additional frustration.

So thank you, magic mouse. Thank you for making me so utterly and painfully frustrated. What happened to keeping things simple? These "techy" devices are making the simplest tasks more challenging and complicated!

    A crazy product

    • Written by

It drives me nuts. The whole page would disappear when I accidentally touched the mouse without knowing it. You don't a jet to take you to the next block. Nobody in our studio likes it. We all switched back to the $10 mouse with a scrolling wheel now.

    Can't figure out the lag

    • Written by from Sherman Oaks

The lag on this mouse is ridiculous. I've tried all of the work arounds, resetting it, moving other blue tooth items away with no success. I can not recommend this mouse.

Do not use for design work

    • Written by from Saint Paul

This is the most frustrating piece of Apple equipment I have ever tried using. I was looking forward to the wireless mouse, with less wires running across my desk, but the Magic Mouse is almost impossible to work with when trying to do graphic design, the slightest touch sends it zooming over to the opposite side of the page.

    What Happened?

    • Written by from Simpsonville

I have used this mouse for several years with no problems and was very happy with it until recently. Now it has become almost unusable at times due to skipping and lagging with movement. Its unresponsive and freezes up at times. Based on support posts on apples sight, there are quite a few complaints about this. Ive seen many different explanations of the problem, but it sounds like a bluetooth connection issue. Regardless, how has it work fine for years and then seemed to recently start acting up? This should have been fixed. Ive actually got my apple wired mouse back out because I cant take it anymore! This thing is not functional!

    Stay Away

    • Written by from SAN RAFAEL

I saw the suggestion for PC users to get the Magic Mouse instead of the Trackpad. Don't do it. The mouse is incredibly heavy and clunky. The scroll function is nice, but that's it. I just got the Trackpad to replace the Magic Mouse. The Trackpad is incredible. It's worth getting an iMac just for the Trackpad. The touch is so light and responsive and does so many things. It feels very elegant and it's a pleasure. Stay away from the Magic Mouse. I can't believe it's made by the same company.

    Awful

    • Written by from Fountain Hills

This mouse is the worst I have used in 25 years. It is so sensitive that simply touching it enlarges or contracts the images. I do a lot of work with maps, using polygons to select the area. This mouse is a disaster as it automatically zooms in and out at will. Clearly it needs more field testing. Would not recommend under any circumstances.

    To sensitive.

    • Written by from Albertville

I hate this mouse. I am a graphic designer and constantly have my hand on the mouse as I work. The slightest touch or graze of the mouse and my pages are flying left and right. I HATE this mouse. I am more upset because it cost me so much money. If you are not a designer and are just doing web browsing it wouldn't be so bad - for for working with it in design programs it is a nightmare.

    Imprecise

    • Written by from Lakewood

For my work I need a mouse that puts the pointer where I want. This mouse does not do that. Its okay if you're clicking on big huge things because it will put the pointer in the general vicinity of where you want. This mouse is a source of frustration.

    Waste of Money

    • Written by from Fresno

Don't spend the money on this mouse. I could get used to all the erratic swipes and pans but it loses the Bluetooth connection about 50 times a day. I have replaced batteries, put little squares of paper inside, turned off every Bluetooth device within a mile radius and it still does not work. I am on a band new Macbook Pro but it just drops the connection. Terrible product. I am forced to go back to an old Dell mouse. At least it works!

    It's not just me...

    • Written by from Danville

A few days ago I watched a sales associate at my local Apple store struggling with the same unwanted zooms/paging/scrolling, which I have experienced with the Magic Mouse. Like many, I have turned off Screen Zoom and the two-finger swipe (and almost everything else). But after struggling with it for another month I just went back to my Mighty Mouse, which still functions perfectly with Lion.

The touch-sensitive technology of the Magic Mouse is a tremendous step forward. It has not, however, been paired with adequate software. I find it odd that Apple includes this mouse with many computers, but requires software from a third party (not included it in the initial purchase) in order to make it function in an acceptable fashion.
