great first 4 years, then just a crock

    • Written by from BERKELEY

MM's been working fine on my laminated desk surface for the first four years and then started getting more and more choppy. I've tried, as someone has suggested, stuffind paper in the battery compartment for a snug fit: it makes no difference. I've even bought a 3m special pad for $8. The only thing that works is the glossy surface of the package the 3M pad came in. Otherwise, the 3M pad produces absolutely 0 tracking. Go figure!
I have an old MS USB mouse, and it works just fine, except that it's ugly and takes one USB port.
By the way, I've just replaced my four-year-old MBP with the most recent model. Made no difference for the magic mouse.
There is a person (persons) with the same problem on the Apple Forum, and Apple has not provided any answers.

Brilliant mouse with so-so battery life and Bluetooth connection

    • Written by from Cape Town

    MOUSE
This is the best mouse I've ever used. I spend about 10 hours a day in front of the screen, most of which includes design work of some sort, so you could say I'm a heavy mouse user. Of all the mice I've owned and used, this is the best one by a long stretch. It sits comfortably in my hand, it has a clean, clutter free design, and it operates very precisely. The single shell design with multi buttons are perfectly balanced, and scrolling always impresses - it really is a magical experience, compared to other mice.

I don't like using a mouse pad, which results in the ski-strips on the underside getting a little mucky over time, but it's easy enough to clean to not influence my overall very positive experience with the mouse.

    BATTERY LIFE
As mentioned, I am a heavy user, but having to replace the batteries every 2 to 3 weeks does leave a somewhat not-so-green feeling. I would say if it wasn't for the battery life, I would give this product a 5 star rating.

    BLUETOOTH CONNECTION
I'm not sure if it's my MacBook or my mouse, but about once a week I lose my Bluetooth connection, with the mouse within 5 inches from my MacBook. This does seem a bit odd, but luckily getting it re-connected is only a swipe-tap-select away on my trackpad.

    Lose connectivity

    • Written by from RALEIGH

I have one at home and one for work. Both constantly lose connectivity. If you work a lot in PowerPoint for Mac, this mouse is very frustrating to work with, once touch and you fly 150 slides down the presentation. So for me, this mouse is really bad.

*** Alert; Scrolling needs =or>10.6 to work ***

    • Written by from SEATTLE

Either It’s not clear, or even stated under the “System Requirements”, although the mouse works in 10.5.8, the scrolling feature that does not work unless the system is 10.6 or better.
…This straight from an Apple tech support person. Disappointing. Please pay more attention to the details on your web site Apple.
    Thanks.

    Lots of room for improvement

    • Written by from North Las Vegas

Been using my magic mouse for a while now. I love the gestures, they really take the mouse to the next level. However as others have stated the ergonomics are not the best. This mouse is heavy and has large contact pads on the bottom that seem to grip more than slide on your desk. Feels very much like sliding around a brick. My biggest complaint is the sides, I grip the mouse from the sides with my thumb and ring finger, and they are very sharp to the point that they irritate my skin after a few hours.

Overall a great product, I am keeping my fingers crossed for some ergonomic improvements from future generations!

It's all in the name ...

    • Written by from Lake Forest

Visiting the company store in Cupertino gives the perfect excuse to purchase a new accessory, superbly designed you can work with it all day as it fits beautifully into your hand and reacts with accuracy, the comments on battery life I saw on the review must have come from some crazed PC lover, i use mine both at work on a boring PC and at home (Mac), were the right swipe and finger motions come alive. Hard use 8 Hrs.+ a day and in a week without switching it off still at 92%... and as for people who say its expensive, search the internet for the worlds most expensive computer mouse...

My last comment, if looks could kill this mouse should have a licence.

    Magic Mouse Is Great

    • Written by from YAKIMA

I have been using the Magic Mouse since early June. It has been used 8 hours a day 5 days a week and I have had no problems. I still have 68% of my original batteries left with no problems with the batteries falling out as others have stated. I have not found a program that it does not work well with although i have not used it on a CAD program yet. i am looking forward to using it in my classroom this school year. I would advise anyone who is buying a MacBook to add the Magic Mouse to their purchase.

If you like charging batteries daily, this is the mouse for you.

    • Written by from Portland

Absolute junk. Can't hold a charge for more than a few hours compared to my Microsoft Mouse that holds a charge for weeks - maybe more than a month. The Apple Mouse, keyboard and trackpad are horrible products to be avoided. I am falling in love with my new PC more everyday that i have to put up with my over priced under performing Mac equipment. Don't waste your money on Apple. Take a look at the latest PCs. They are better in every way.

THIS BARELY EVEN COUNTS AS A MOUSE. MORE "INGENIUS DESIGN" FROM APPLE.

    F/10

    WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

    Best mouse I've ever used

    • Written by from BOZEMAN

This mouse is great. The multitouch works well, it is easy to use and the battery life is great. I've seen reviews saying that they were replacing the batteries every week, but I've had mine for about three years and I've probably replaced the batteries about 5 times max

    Great Mouse

    • Written by from Vancouver

This mouse is great. it is very easy to use and although some people have written reviews saying otherwise, i think it is very comfortable for your wrist because it is not as high as some other devices. it moves around smoothly, and works even on a white counter top. i would say that the only problem with it, especially when you first get one is that it is sometimes hard to click it to do what you want, like if you are trying to left click, sometimes it right clicks instead, but that was only happening to me for the first little while. overall i would say that this is a very good mouse and i would definitely recommend it.

Probably the coolest mouse I've ever had, but not good for gaming.

    • Written by from Clarence Center

I bought one with my first Mac last year, a 13" retina pro, and I have to say it's amazing. It's got a sleek, yet basic design and it doesn't drain batteries like most computer mice I've used. I also love how it's all one button and a touch pad. The only complaint I have is it's not the best for gaming. Sometimes it thinks I scrolled or I right-clicked and it detected it as a left-click. I also love how it has gestures almost like the Mac trackpad.

This is a review after having the product for about 2 years:
Battery: I think it lasts pretty long. No problems with it
Shape: I find it fine. Ppl complain that it is not made for big hands, but im 6'2'' and it fits fine
Connection: very few times have I lost connection when I was using it. Sometimes when I first turn on my computer (Macbook Pro) it takes a minute or two to recognize the mouse, but usually this is not a problem.
Price: It's a little pricy, but you get what you pay for. I haven't had any problems with it

Conclusion: If you do not like using the trackpad or have to move your curser a lot, I would definitely recommend this product.

    Pricey but good product

    • Written by from cold lake

I reluctantly bought the magic mouse for 2 reason. First all the bad reviews and second the price. I've been using the mouse for the last two weeks and so far I'm well pleased with it. I use it on my macbook air and it works great. The only down fall is the price.
I had to try a couple times for my mac to connect to it properly but once it recognized the mouse I haven't had a problem since.

In short if you're an Apple junky such as myself and don't mind shelling out the $$$ for a mouse do it!!!

Drops connection all the time - poor product

My first Magic Mouse was useful for about 3 weeks then it started dropping connection. I got a replacement mouse today - it is doing the same thing, only stays connected for 5 - 10 seconds. Very frustrating!

Great mouse, but it is small

    • Written by from Rochester

I have relatevely long fingers and big hand, it is great mouse but they should make it a bit bigger in size and more high to fill your palm. it is so slim and tiny for me. I am back to work on my tacking pad. Apple, you should produce a bigger version.

    NOT recommended

    • Written by from Chandler

The Good: very nice design by Apple, Touch surface works, quite dirt resistant.

The Bad: takes ages to connect/pair (tested on a 2012 rMBP and a 2010 Mac Pro), and once connected drops connection frequently, even on full batteries (extremely annoying!!!); won't connect at all if multiple Macs have Bluetooth turned on; is a battery waster - especially rechargeable batteries will die quickly.

Big hand - no way to run.

    • Written by from Minsk

My hand is not so small and thus this mouse (that flat as xxxx) is not for me at all.
P.S. And drivers.. - turtle speed without extra "Magic Mouse" software initially?! Are you kidding us?
