iPod Headphone with Mic and Remote

I bought these to replace my lost original set for my iPod Touch 2g. I found the sound quality for recording is excellent considering the size of the microphone.

I use iTalk to record and iTalk Sync for Windows to upload my recordings to desktop. It recorded kids running at the above appartment better then my Logitech headset with mic on my laptop.

I love the volume control and song Next/Previous when I walk the dog. I don't have to keep reaching for my iPod.

A good buy!

A great piece of technology!

This product is very useful to have. I am using it for the ipod touch(2nd Gen)The microphone is great and picks up all kinds of sounds. You just have to remember not to put your finger over it! This mic allows you to use many applications. The remote controls are great and easier to use than the touch screen. My only dislike is that sometimes you have to twist the input certain ways to get the remote control and mic to work. If you have an ipod touch(2nd gen) and the mic and remote don't work at first, don't worry. Just keep twisting the headphones in.

Great Product for iPod Touch and MacBook

I bought this product initially for my iPod Touch 2nd Gen to use with new iPod Touch Skype application. I am a heavy user of Skype and was missing mobility feature of Skype and mic in iPod Touch. Now both are full filled. I can now receive and make VOIP calls using Skype from my iPod Touch and Apple earphone Remote with Mic. The best part is, I also have a MacBook Aluminum (late 2008), when I plugged the headphone into MacBook, it worked flawlessly. Now I can even control iTunes (volume, paly/pause and track forward only) from the little remote and can use the mic with Skype, Yahoo Messenger, GTalk and other audio related application. Initially I was planning to buy Apple in-ear headphone with remote & mic, which costs $80. Then thought it's not worth it, as by paying $20 more I can buy a Bose in-ear headphone. But this $30 Apple Earphone is really 4 in 1 - Headphone + Remote + Microphone + Spare headphone for iPod Touch. Recommend this product if you have iPod Touch 2nd Gen and/or MacBook/Pro Aluminum. Don't buy it if you have iPod Touch 1st Gen or MacBook white, it won't work.

100% True they can not handle moisture

Both the earbuds and the updgraded in ear headphones both malfunction during workouts. Thought it was the shuffle 3g at first. I don't really know what else to say. They come with pretty cool features are not reliable when using them for what I actually bought them for.

The headphones can't handle any kind of moisture. Which is a bummer because unless you don't sweat when you run then you will have problems with these headphones. At first I thought it was the actual shuffle (3d gen.), in fact I returned the first 3d shuffle I bought because of this problem. I bought another shuffle, had no issues with it and then as soon as the headphones got any kind of moisture in them, the volume decreased, the voice over kept giving me the title of the song and not to mention I had no control over the remote. Very frustrating considering that these headphones are supposed to be ideal for working out. C'mon Apple, fix the problem already or give us some better remote options.

Perfect for iPod Touch

I have a second generation iPod Touch. These earphones are perfect. By clicking the center button, I am able to play/pause my music. By double clicking, I am able to skip tracks. It is especially nice when using other applications. Many apps pause the music, and by clicking the center button I can resume.

This is also one of the cheaper mics I can find for the iPod. I can now use apps such as Shazam, Voice Recorder, etc. Very useful. I can even use VoIP apps such as TruPhone. I have tested this and it works very well.

Only for Indoor Use

I purchased these earphones a month ago and have been using them regularly. Loved the functionality and design. Sound quality was not high-end but decent.

However they are not durable. If any moisture gets into the remote unit while exercising or, well, being outside, it will stop functioning. There also is no support for this product that I could find on the website. The price isn't that high but I expected better from an Apple product.

I have always liked the standard Apple headphones because they fit me well and sound pretty good. I found other headphones that sound as good or a little better for less money, but I didn't like the look or the fit or the functionality (Apple headphones are the perfect length, etc...)

These are the same Apple iPod headphones, but with this great new mic/control. Works with the iPod touch (2nd gen) and the latest nano (with accelerometer)--with the original iPod touch it only works as standard headphones, not remote. You really need this on the iPod touch or iPhone because these difficult to control (except volume) from your pocket as you used to be able to do with older iPods. This remote lets you turn the volume up/down and play/pause/select and even skip/skip backward all from a tiny little control, without taking the iPod touch or iPhone out of your pocket.

Of course it has the mic, too. I use the mic to make calls over SKYPE with FRING on my iPod touch (2nd gen). FRING is a free app to connect to your SKYPE OUT account (that let's you call landlines and cell phones, not just skype to skype. It's about 2 cents a minute.) You have to put in "001" before every call here in the US--you can call anywhere in the world. Fring has some rough edges, but I expect SYPE will have their own iPod/iPhone app soon. Pretty cool for someone who has almost constant access to wifi. The SKYPE OUT account only cost me $10 which includes over 500 minutes.)

I have used this for some voice annotation/recording as well. The sound quality of the mic is pretty good, but the sound quality of SKYPE and FRING is only acceptable, not as quite as good as you would have on a real cell phone.

Cool remote, poor mic

I bought these specifically to use with the Skype app on my 2nd gen iPod Touch, but got complaints that I couldn't be heard clearly or sounded weird. Everything else worked great, so I can recommend them if you don't need them for VoIP calls. I returned mine because I found 3rd-party product with a better mic (though it didn't have nearly as good a remote).

CONSUMER WARNING!! ALERT.

I am a fan of Apple. A Big Fan. I have a house full of Apple gear, some going back to 1990.

Every so often, Apple puts a clunker out, and this little headset rates with the most infamous.

It's not sealed, so when you sweat on it, or get a bit of moisture near the controller, it quits working permanently. Utterly useless. DO NOT BUY the new talking shuffle and the controller headset unless you plan to keep it perfectly dry. NOT SUITABLE FOR RUNNING, BIKING, PHYSICAL EXERTION or anything involving perspiration.

moisture (sweat) intolerant

I bought a 3rd gen iPod shuffle when it first came out specifically for the gym. Unfortunately these earphones quit working after the least bit of exercise. They are very intolerant to moisture, yet the controls land right on my neck, which gets quite wet when I run. I've ruined six pairs of them in less than two months and have finally put my new iPod shuffle in the drawer and gone back to using my clunky iPhone with third-party earphones by Bang & Olufsen during my workouts.

Very Disappointed

I use these earphones and the ipod Shuffle only during my workout. After about 3 workouts the controls stopped working and the Voice Over feature spontaneously started repeating the names of the tunes. I returned the whole unit to the Apple store where it was cheerfully replaced. The new unit didn't make it 20 minutes into my workout before it started doing the same thing. My appointment with an Apple genius yielded no useful suggestions for fixing the problem. Now after some trial and error, the only way I can use it is to wrap a tissue around the control lead in order to catch the sweat that I believe is causing the problem. The control is also awkwardly placed out of sight too close to the earpiece.

great when sitting, broken whilst running

the product works great when you are sitting or stationary, but whilst exercising the smallest drop of sweat sends the contol panel haywire and it shuts down or skips randomly through tracks every 3 to 4 seconds.

please make a waterproof version

Awful

If you're going to use this earphone to workout, it'll break down within minutes. This results (1) in a diminishing volume level, (2) if you have the 3d generation iPod Shuffle, the Voice Over telling you what song is playing constantly, and (3) your iPod shutting off. Seeing as the iPod Shuffle was made for working out, the design of these earphones can only be defined as an engineering fail. Good job Apple.

NO GOOD, A HORRIBLE UNTESTED MISTAKE, MOISTURE KILLS IT

DIES WITH SLIGHT BIT OF MOISTURE. A serious quality control error. What were they thinking? The premier workout device on the planet cannot work if the slightest bit of moisture or sweat touches it? And it don't mean immersion, I mean contact with a slightly sweaty cheek. I have to wrap the mic in a sandwich bag and duct tape which makes me look like an idiot. Interestingly the mic worked reasonably well wrapped in 7 layers of plastic as I folded the bag over a few times. Unprotected,the mic would die and recover when I brought it in for a replacement to the apple store and die on the next run. That was very funny...NOT. I had to use a 2 gen iphone earphone and mic which is sealed better but does not have all the awesome controls. It too will die when very wet, but recover later. Apple replaced the remote and mic earphones covered with duct tape and saran wrap (first attempt at sealing it did not work) no questions asked. Next one did the same thing, recovered and got wrapped in the sandwich bag and duct tape. I get strange looks from people now. Yes, I know Apollo 13 was fixed by duct tape.....but really guys. Redesign it and replace it for free. Here is hoping that is sooner than later but not never....please.

don't get sweat on them

they are alright if you are just sitting on the couch or at your desk. however don't use the while working out or walking around or moving for that matter. If sweat gets in the volume controlls they will stop working.

These headphones break. Easily and often. They're made to be replaced, no question.

The rubber around the part you put in your ears gradually loosens until it snaps. Then you either have little pieces of rubber hanging off or you have to peel the whole thing off. It's not that much less comfortable without it, but you'd think they wouldn't even bother with the rubber if it doesn't stay on.

Also, eventually the remote stops working with the iPhone.

Don't bother wasting your money on these. Unfortunately, I don't know of a good cheap alternative.

Great (for 5 months)

These are relatively good headphones for their relatively small price. However, once you come around to 5 months of ownership, they begin their breakdown. My pairs (2 so far) have had the grip "tape" on them peel off making the earphones uncomfortable. Then the dreaded left earphone pops out. Yup, the entire speaker comes out of the casing and you have to use superglue to even make it stay in there. I'm sure apple could afford something stronger than school glue.
