I'd wait for the newer options
Written by RC from New York

I bought my new 16G iPod Nano for the gym. This armband was the only case option. It fits okay on the arm BUT the hold button is covered and only accessed when removed from the case. The click wheel is hard to manoeuvre through the plastic cover of the case. I could go on but just wait for a new option.

Not that great
Written by GF from Waterloo
11-Oct-2008
I see a lot of people complain about the hold button being covered. Personally, I think that's a non-issue. What's the hold button for? So you don't accidently hit a button when it's in your pocket... If your nano is in the armband, you aren't going to hit any buttons accidentally; hold button has no use in an arm band.
However, there are a few actual concerns using this arm band.
1. I've used this for about 3 weeks now, and it is already getting dirty.
2. The case does not appear to block moisture from getting to the nano whatsoever (even sweat).
3. The click wheel hardly works under the thick plastic of the case (seriously, it's very unresponsive and quite frustrating).
4. The band could be a bit easier to adjust (more velcro for a more tailored fit).
I highly recommend waiting for more options. The new nano is so light you can stuff it in a pocket and hardly notice it; do that until there are more to choose from.

Not the best
Written by DY from Knoxville
17-Sep-2008
This arm band is light but the design could be improved. There isn't a hole for the hold button. The strap also comes out too easily from the silver loop when I'm trying to put it on. I liked the arm band that I had for my old mini where the strap was entirely velcro so you could adjust it however you wanted. This band has a tendency to slip if you don't have it tight enough and the band itself is not as forgiving. This is especially important when I'm lifting weights and my arm size is dynamic when I work out.

Not well thought out
Written by GT from Wildwood
14-Sep-2008
This arm band isn't the best Ive seen. First issue is there is no slot for the hold switch at the top, so in my case when I'm done at the gym I have to take the nano out of the case to power it off and enable hold (or key lock). Secondly (and not as important) when using the nike+ receiver the audio cable there is no hole cut for easy access to the headphone connector.

Good, but some design flaws
Written by AB from Saint John
19-Apr-2009
PROS: I find the armband comfortable and easy to get on/off (I put the ipod in before putting it on my arm). I've had no problems using the clickwheel. The armband leaves room for Nike+.
CONS: The color is entirely unpractical. I've only worn mine 4 times and it is already getting dirty. The quality of construction is also questionnable. The first time I wore mine, I had to reattach one of the velcro circles as it was coming off. By the third use, I had to reattach another one.154 of 172 people found this useful

Doesn't stay velcro'd
Written by JD from Carmel
22-Sep-2008
Looks OK but the small velcro fuzzy dots wear out within months and then the velcro hooks have nothing to hold onto and it will come undone very easily. If you lift weights comes off with every arm exercise. Loosens and then slips off during jogging. Needs mores velcro fuzzy then just those small dots.

Where's Apple's Quality Control?
Written by MS from San Francisco
11-Apr-2009
I give this one star because I HAVE TO. This armband is THE WORST!! I've gotten the blue ones a couple of times before and that one was fine except the velco was weak, so I thought I'd try a new. NOT this one!!
It was so tight that it took me 10 minutes to force my Nano into the thing. And THEN I found out there's no opening in the top so I had to pull it back out (ANOTHER 10 minutes) to unlock it and then deal with forcing it BACK in!!
Also, when you put it all the way in, it doesn't line up well with the windows so it's VERY hard to use the 'forward' and 'back' arrows and almost impossible to use the volume control.
I feel that this was money totally wasted. I'm a little upset that Apple even allows whoever it is to sell this through their store.
Do NOT buy this armband. Bad ideas (no opening in the top) VERY poorly executed.140 of 158 people found this useful

this design disaster may not be "better than nothing"
Written by LH from New York
2-Oct-2008
Not many accessories are available for the 4th gen nano and its new narrow body means prior generation add-ons are poor fits, so you are saying to yourself, "the reviews are bad, but still, this armband has to better than no armband, and I can't wait to go running (go to gym, whatever) with my new cool Nano!" Well, hold on there, eager beaver. Consider that I got this armband for free (a nice make-up gesture from an Apple Store CSR for an order glitch) yet I'm writing a negative review: that must be one suck-y product. And it is.
Here is its only use: make all selections of music, volume, etc. for the listening time period, then press the hold button, then insert the nano into the sleeve; put the armband on, keeping in mind that a knot may be necessary to keep it on. Now you can begin your exercise and enjoy your tunes. So maybe covering up the hold button wasn't an omission; it was an admission that the click wheel cannot be controlled through the plastic.

Had this for the 1st gen.. now 4th gen..
Written by DC from Marina del Rey

Picked one up for the new 4th gen nano (which I got in black this time). It fits nicely, as did the first gen one - but on your forearm. No way you could get it around your bicep, unless you have pipe cleaners for arms.
However, the problem is with the new one, it covers the whole ipod, covering the color. Sort of defeats the purpose of offering different colored ipods.
They are washable and hold up fairly well. I'll probably look or wait for a similar one that's all clear or shows more of the ipod color.
The overall construction could be better, but the nice thing about it is the lack of bulk. Some of the other ones have way too much material. I tend to only use the ipod at the gym - both weights and treadmill. So on the forearm works and the armband is light.
Why Apple lacks in getting out good accessories is beyond me.

I had to give it a full star because it would not let me mark a half of a star! Terrible fit, cheaply made, hard to return! Don't do it - wait for something better to come along.

Waste of Money
Written by MW from Huntersville
2-Oct-2008
I finally broke down and bought an iPod. So of course I thought I needed the accessories. This happened to be the only one I could find. It is such a waste of money. It is very poorly made. You would think as great as these iPods are supposed to be there accessories would be comparable. Not even close. I had to cut out the plastic over the menu display. I am also considering cutting a hole in the top where the lock button is. Please dont waste your money. Do a little research, there are other products out there just not in the apple store. Dont waste your money like the rest of us did!!!

Ok for now
Written by NC from Rockville

It's thin, tight-fitting on the new 4G nano, and has a soft felt feel. However, would be nice to access the hold button. I agree with most of the other reviews about poor choice for color. I haven't had problems using the controls through the plastic cover (my volume works fine). Yes it's annoying that the earphone wire comes out in the crook of your arm, but I don't think that can be changed. Would be nice to have one that hooks onto your shirt somehow, like the shuffle. I sweat a fair amount when running, but haven't had any trouble with staining yet. Not sure if it's washable but that would probably be a nice feature. Overall it's fine for now. Would be nice to have one with access to the hold and in other colors. Otherwise it's a pretty standard armband (if a bit pricey at $30!)

Dirty

Overall, i think this is a good product. While running it stays nicely in place. However, Sweat stains it getting it very dirty and it does not come off.
Please Apple! come up with other colors for sports oriented people.

For 30.- Dollars you should expect more! No whole to use the hold button, the wheel is hard to manage because of the plastic that covers it.

Works fine, a few minor features could be better
Written by LP from Broadview Heights

I really like the flexibility of task that you can do while wearing the armband. I use it to exercise, cook, etc and never am worried about damaging my iPod. The positioning of the earphone jack is a little annoying, as it hits the crook of my arm sometimes, and it would be nice to have access to the hold button for when I'm carrying to and from the gym. I haven't had the sweating problem that some have had, but agree that the white cover completely covers the color. Considering the plastic covers the wheel, it is pretty responsive. The fit is very snug, and there is never any concern about the iPod falling out. On the whole, a good product to use while on the go.

iPODS and Armbands
Written by JM from Brisbane
16-Aug-2009
Anyone considering using an iPOD NANO for exercise, don't bother. I purchased a NANO in Brisbane, Australia with an Armband for the sole purpose of running with it. Little did I know the Armband provides no protection from mositure and although it is promoted for exercise, a bit of sweat in the ear phone jacks and it's all over. Warrenty VOID! Don't get caught like I did. My NANO I used 3 times and I can now throw it away. Apple don't want to know. I also got the run around in servicing. Finally on the third attempt, one store told me the mositure indicator which is inside the headphone jack port was lite pink or red and that VOIDS WARRENTY. How did this happen - well using it in the normal manner but wearing a shirt with sleeves that were rubbing against the iPOD whilst running. A good workout will see your iPOD ruined!

HARD TO USE
Written by SG
25-Nov-2008
I'm not like one of those people who just go ahead and rate every accessory bad, but this is by far the worst thing that happened to my iPod nano. It is so hard to use the wheel because the plastic covering it isn't great. I reccomend a different armband for sure. It also doesn't last. The plastic tore open in less than 3 weeks. Also it is overpriced.
