Best Part of my Stereo System

    • Written by from Fairbanks

I've had my Airport Express for many years. It has always worked perfectly as the best component of my home audio system. Without my Airport Express, I would still be flipping CDs in and out of a CD player and angry with my kids with their stacks of CDs laying around. Being a family of musicians, we are constantly streaming music from various devices, such as our iPhones, iPod Touches, laptops or one of the iMacs. The music sounds fabulous coming out of my vintage Advent loudspeakers, which is always clean and detailed.

Amazing Wireless - Not compatible iPad printing without new printer

    • Written by from Cape Elizabeth

This is a great product and I would be ecstatic about it except for the fact that we cannot print from our iPads or iPhones without a new printer. Our old wireless rotor blew up and we jumped at the idea of wireless printing from all our Apple devices that we own (now 6 total). There needs to be a fix for this issue. No need for us to go buy another printer for $100+ when we just bought a $100 wireless rotor. There has to be a way to make this work. PLEASE HELP! 5 stars if this works some how!

work fantastic and have for many years!!

    • Written by from Acton

We love these. Have two already and about to buy another. We use to 1) extend our home network. 2) play music from computer through stereo speakers and 3) optimize hotel room use when traveling.

    Absolutely no complaints.

    Can't extend wireless signal

    • Written by from Dessau-Roßlau

It only works with Apple's routers, which is very inconvenient.
    I couldn't be less pleased.

3 dead after less than 3 years

The Aiport Express is amazing when it works but quite expensive considering they really don't last very long... That's 300+ bucks down the toilet.

It works great, easy to install, easy to use, it's only thing I would change is, to be able to control more the one at de time with the iPhone or iPad. I have 2 and apple tv also and if I'm listen music I have to choose only one place of the house to play it, hopefully in the future they change it

Couldn't be happier with my Express!!

    • Written by from QUINCY

While visiting my parents, I had continuous failures when trying to sync my iPad and iPhone to their linksys wifi.

My dad and I (both in tech support for MANY years) upgraded FW, restored to factory settings, and tried every security combination known to man. No luck.

My initial decision was to replace their router with an Extreme. However, while at Best Buy, I saw the Express. I realized that it would be an excellent solution for my immediate wifi needs and for future trips.

I purchased the Express and it worked better than I could have imagined. Setup was a breeze, connecting was instant, signal was incredibly strong, and I didn't have a single connection issue. On top of my iPhone and iPad, we also connected 2 more iPhones and 2 laptops. No issues.

Don't worry, dad will be getting an Airport Extreme for his birthday later this year. :-)

Everyone should have one of these. It's so convenient and easy.

This stuff just works and I couldn't be happier.

    Works when it does.

To the point. I'm on my 4th Airport Express. Apple is notorious for testing its products on the customer before making any improvements. This item is a flaccid failure for quality. It will work wonderfully (any product on earth should work, so no big compliment there) and then, one day very soon, it will disconnect. Then work, then disconnect. Then work, then disconnect. Answer from every technician at Apple, whether over the phone or in-person is as follows: "You'll need to buy a new one." Remember when products built in the U.S. would last you almost forever? Well, this is a "Quality Product's Illegitimate, Inbred Cousin." Expect to go through many of these in your lifetime. I feel like cattle.

Mine failed in less than two years also

I like the concept and capability of the device; but, "think" the quality is less than to be expected from Apple; especially at $100 to replace it!

    Apple wifi airport

    • Written by from Sandy Hook

Works great for two devises any more and it will only last a couple of weeks before a "connection time out" occurs. When this happens you have to in plug the devise and then plug it back in which can become a hasle after a while, especially if you are in the Internet with a different devise.

    Great wireless network extender!

    • Written by from Saint Louis

Bought this to extend the range of my Belkin N300 router.

Setup was simple through the Mac AirPort Utility (Lion version). Tested the network where I was getting weak signal before. Over 3x the speed increase and full bars.

Note to non-airport express/extreme owners: the airport express may or may not work with non-apple routers, as far as extending an existing wireless network. Just a heads up.

    A great device!

    Fine while it works

Mine's toast after 3 years. My other base station lasted over 10, until it became obsolete and wouldn't work with newer computers. I won't buy another Express and will spend the extra $60 for the Extreme.

    A problem for colorblind people.

    • Written by from Niantic

Very easy to set up and very reliable from my experience. I've been using these as range extenders for years and have had no technical problems. The only problem for me is the status indicator light which is impossible to read if you're red-green colorblind.

After two years, it'll die... However, I've had my Linksys wireless router for over 5 years and it still works. Don't buy it if you need a router.

8 Years and Still Going Strong

    • Written by from Huron

Still using my first generation AE at home - its been around the world 3 times and still not a hitch. Recently added a new one to my university office in Taiwan because the school's wifi kept dropping or no signal. Time tested and well traveled -"can't touch this"

    Frustrating piece of garbage!

    • Written by from Malden

Constantly loses signal, so it has to be unplugged then plugged back in. Even tried changing the channel to one that's not being used by other wireless networks, but still have to unplug, then plug back in every few days.

Don't buy it! It looks cool and is nice and compact, but that's about it!

    I hate it.

    piece of junk!

    • Written by from Jamul

don't waste your money on this, for the price of this product, spend it at Cradlepoint or Linksys, this device is incredibly limiting and you have very little control of the actual router in this device. It's basically only used to connect to a modem and give a wireless network, which other manufacturers do better jobs at cheaper prices, just without the Apple logo. I bought this as I was in a crunch where I needed a router that would serve DHCP over Wired ports and this was the only router offered at the only electronics store in the small town I was in that day, you'd think you can change the mode of the wired port from Modem to network, but you can't. Since I have other smaller travel routers at home that do a better job than this one, I now have a $100 white brick paper weight. Don't waste your money, get a cradlepoint for $65, and you can use the USB for your USB internet card while traveling.

    Apple never disappoints!

    • Written by from Spruce Grove

I have been using Airport Extreme for years but needed a cheap temporary solution for my temporary apartment away from home/office. AIrport Express was the solution. Worked flawlessly with my MacBook Air, iPad2, iPhone and even my printer was able to go wireless just like home. I have been an apple addict for many years and I continue to purchase apple products and have never been disappointed. Another home run APPLE!! Well done with the Airport Express. Very easy to use, secure and portable. What else can you ask for?

    not for gamers

    • Written by from Bronx

The main reason why I needed airport was for my ipad and wireless printers, and it works great for that. Websurfing works fine also. Playing an online game such as unreal tournament is impossible though. Every five minutes the screen freezes and my computer needs to be restarted via the power button. I've read that this is due to "dropouts" in the connection and that I could try installing an older firmware on my fall 2007 imac, which is running 10.6.8. Wish it had another ethernet port, or some way that I can hardwire just the ethernet to my computer, don't know if the Airport Extreme can do that, or if an ethernet switch would work this way. Tried unplugging the cable from the airport and going directly to the computer just for the game, lost my connection for two hours - won't try that again.
