Pet Peeves got the best of me...

    • Written by from Los Angeles

Overall good keyboard. I bought this keyboard because it was easier to type on. I previously had the old white wireless keyboard with numeric pad, but I was getting tired of all the typo's I was having because I have to put more effort into pressing the buttons down hard. And when time is an issue (which is always the case for me) and you need to type up a template or respond to an email quickly, it gets really annoying.

So I bought this wired keyboard because of the numeric pad (I don't know why the aluminum wireless ones don't have 'em; very unprofessional) and the issue was resolved. I could type with speed and ease without the worry of typo's due to the actual keyboard. Better yet, I was super excited to have two USB inputs on either side of the keyboard. Hoping to use it for misc. electronic appliances (ie. both my blackberry and iPhone, IPod, Flash drives, etc.)

But alas, the USB ports on the keyboard do not support power to any appliance plugged in through these slots and because of this it didn't recognize the plugged in device at all. Therefore, plugging my little gadgets through the USB ports on the keyboard was USELESS because everything draws power through the USB nowadays. That was a huge pet peeve for me because I lost an extra USB port on my iMac to support this keyboard. Hence, the loss of two stars (one for each USELESS USB port).

I returned it and bought the bluetooth MacAlly keyboard with numeric pad.

    • Written by from Glen Rock

I have a Alienware desktop and i took my parents mac keyboard, and tried to see if it would work with my computer and it turns out it does.
So i am going to buy myself one tomorrow. Just thought i would say this for everyone who wants one that has a PC.

    Old School User Immediately Impressed

I've been using Macs since 1985. The tactile feedback on this puppy is my favorite since the very 1st Macintosh keyboard, which we dubbed the typing brick, back in the day. The Apple Extended Keyboard on my Q840AV was a solid piece of work. The Bondi keyboard with the black keys with my G3 450 was an ergonomic disaster. The white, mushy thing with my G5 2x1.6 tower had a terrible feel, and the keys stuck like crazy, littering my typing with double letters. My typing speed became perceptibly slower on it. Not so with the aluminum! I'm flying again! It's everything I could want and I want to get one for my G5 at work! Nice one, Apple!

    Nice at first but .......

Have had my iMac for about 6 months and LOVE it. The keyboard was cool at first--great looking. Only real complaint—and Apple, are you listening?—is that it gets absolutely filthy within just a short time of use. And you can't just brush or blow away the dirt. You must use water and a rag. Just thought I'd contribute this opinion for those out there who value a consistently good look and easy-clean option. Great keyboard otherwise.

Does not work with KVM Switch emulators

    • Written by from Portland

This is a great keyboard. I love the feeling of the keys and the slimmed down design; it's spoiled me for other keyboards. That said, form is one thing Apple did well, but they failed at function. This keyboard is incompatible with KVM switches that use emulation. It won't work with IOGear KVM's. I don't know if the keyboard works with Belkin KVM's, but I read that, if the KVM uses emulation (a common practice), you won't be able to use it with the KVM switch. Big, bummer.

    Best keyboard. Ever.

i cannot explain how much i love this keyboard. it's just so amazing. i bought this keyboard because i wanted to make my macbook pro into a temporary desktop for when i'm just in my room. i love the fact that it has two usb ports but one is taken up because of the mouse x] . the design of this keyboard is just amazing. it's so slim, but that doesn't take away from its quality. it still is a full size keyboard, with a number pad which is just an added bonus. one thing that i really love about this keyboard is the sound that the keys make when you type. i just LOVE the sound the keyboard makes, it's just so amazing. so if you're looking for a great looking keyboard, that doesn't sacrifice quality, this is the keyboard for you. and it just looks awesome. this keyboard is way worth the 49 dollars, and anyone who is looking for a keyboard just has to get this one.

    One word - PERFECT!

    • Written by from Memphis

Finally a keyboard whose keys respond without a long distance stroke path - you touch the keys rather then having D E P R E S S them. Brings new meaning to "touch typing". I LOVE this keyboard!!

And forget about gunk getting down into the keyboard and impairing your keyclicks - or like with that nasty see-through keyboard, seeing everything that and fallen inside and you couldn't get out!. The closed nature of the keyboard is wonderful.

Don't the let thinness fool you. This is one heavy weight, sturdy, hardworking keyboard.

    A nice addition

    • Written by from Santa Barbara

This ultra thin keyboard is absolutely eye-catching and does a great job at catching people's attention, "Hey, wow! Look at that keyboard..." Beyond the superficial, I appreciate it's low profile. As it prevents me from aggravating my wrists after a lot of work with less of a "praying mantis" pose and more of a natural hand position. And even though the spaced keys and rearrangement of keys (function keys particularly) are different, within an hour they feel right at home with a wonderful solid response. I am completely pleased with this upgrade for my Macintosh.

    Disappointing... again

    • Written by from Wilmington

Second keyboard fail in less than a year.
Comfy, quiet, fast, and I love the 'thin-ness'. But it just doesn't last. I can't say it's a battery hog, because it's not wireless. It just...dies.
    So not cool.

Zero stars if I could. Worst keyboard ever.

    • Written by from Seattle

My keyboard started out working just fine, then certain keys stopped working after a few days. Then the volume would go up uncontrollably and other shortcuts were activated through what must have been some sort of short in the wiring. Apple contested it wasn't covered through the warranty since its not the keyboard that came with my Mac. Eventually, when I did get a replacement, it did the exact same thing. I have since smashed it and ripped it apart to gain what little consolation could be gotten from removing such a horrible product from the world. No one else should have to suffer like this. I have since bought a $10 keyboard from Amazon that has worked perfectly and as advertised. Sometimes paying extra for the Apple name simply isn't worth it. Do not buy this product!

    Breaks easily

    • Written by from Hopedale

I have already gone through two of these keyboards. First the left Shift key stops working, then others follow. It also makes this terrible noise when plugged in and not being used. Almost like a key is being constantly depressed when it isn't. I'm not rough on keyboards so there is no reason I should have gone through two so far.

Good Keyoard BUT, not backlit yet? c'mon it's 2013 already!

    • Written by from Weehawken

I work in a dark environment most of the time and really wish this keyboard was backlit. After all, this is a wired keyboard so there no issue with power. The backlit keyboard was one of the main reasons I bought a Macbook Pro in the first place.
Alas, I had to sell this keyboard and get a logitech with backlighting.

Please Apple, Please make us a wired backlit keyboard:
    -Full Size Numeric
    -Backlit (of course)
    -USB hub
    -Awesome Apple Design
    -No batteries required

Make this, and I will have no choice but to say," Yes please."

P.s. why all the comments about making this wireless. Apple already has a wireless keyboard.

My family just made the "switch" from PC to Mac. We love it, however, I am FORCED to use a PC for work. I bought this keyboard because I love the action while typing. HOWEVER, why not wireless? ugh. I would give me 5 stars if it was wireless. Other than that, is awesome and it works with a PC too.

    Best Keyboard Ever!

Been using this keyboard for about 8 months or so and it is by far the best keyboard I've ever used! The low-profile is great and it has a solid, quality feel to it as I type. I love it!

Why didn't I buy this before?

    • Written by from Proton Station

In early 2010 I bought a new iMac to replace my old G5. I had bought the G5 with the extended keyboard. The iMac came with the smaller, wireless keyboard. I really missed the numeric keypad, especially with spreadsheets.

Two things happened recently. I had wireless problems (solved, but requiring the temporary use of a wired keyboard and mouse) and I bought an iPad. I figured that if I bought a wired keyboard, the wireless one could be used with the iPad and the wired one could stay with the iMac (and I would still have the wireless one if preferred). Plus, I would have a wired keyboard (and I also bought the Apple wired Mouse) as a backup in case of future wireless problems.

Well, I was very pleased to find that not only could I buy a reasonably priced wired Apple keyboard, but it had the numeric keypad, too! Perfect. Should have bought it months ago.

    Pretty good, but not perfect

    • Written by from Campbell

It's very comfortable to type on, specially that you won't need to work your fingers too much - I guess that helps preventing micro trauma quite a bit. But the fact that the first row containing the function keys is right next to the rest of the keys makes it very difficult for me to locate the digit keys easily.

I usually type with the keyboard tray retracted all the way in and seldom see the keys. Once I get the home keys F and J, I can easily find the alphabet keys, but locating the correct digit key on the top row is usually a bit of a hassle for me. If the function keys had a little bit of a distance from the rest of the keys, it would've been easier for me to locate them.

Same goes for the numeric keypad and the top row of function keys.

    Apple Keyboard

    • Written by from Lexington

Fabulous BUT..... don't discard the keyboard that came with your iMac. If you get into booting from CD or DVD trouble you just might have to hook up the original keyboard. Some keys on this keyboard don't work with the white iMac. Was my experience and others. Once you get things fixed you might be able to go back to this more fab Apple Keyboard.

Wireless with Numeric would be better...

    • Written by from Hillsboro

This is a great keyboard, it is beautiful and sleek-looking, but works really well also. The function keys are very useful, and since it is an Apple Keyboard I know I can expect the best from it. The USB ports on it are handy as well. However, I wish it was Wireless. The only thing that kept me from buying the Wireless Keyboard is that it doesn't have a Numeric Keyboard, which I use very often. But overall this is a great keyboard, it is thin and durable, and I love it. This is a good buy for anyone with a Mac, but if you don't need the Numeric Keypad I suggest buying without it to save the money. The Bluetooth Keyboard is the best way to go in my opinion if you don't need the Numeric Keypad and your Mac is Bluetooth-enabled.
