I bought this in January of 08 and have logged 951 miles on nike+ website and my sensor just died today. Lasted almost a year and probably would have lasted longer had I taken off my shoes after run/walk.

Battery life is really limited. I got the kit for Christmas and by March the sensor battery was dead, despite me putting it to sleep after every run (3x/week). I wonder if some of them ship "on," because it seems like a consistent problem.

I thought my unit was the only defective one - turns out it wasn't and I am not going to spend another $20, plus buy another pair of the shoes.

I'll wear my heart monitor and my pedometer (that was given to me free) and get the same results.

Wish I had the original packaging still to send it back!

Needs longer battery life!

I bought my Nike+ sensor in May and have been on about 10 runs since then. It's October now and the battery is dead. I really liked using this product but now I'm supposed to spend $19 on a new one after just a few months? Apple, please come up with a sensor with a replaceable battery!

Total Junk - Can I rate less than one star?

Bought it in May and used it for a total of 43 minutes until an injury and the Arizona heat forced me to put away my running shoes for the summer. Now in September the sensor is dead despite religiously putting it to sleep (even though it's supposed to not need it).

I bought it in June and now September it does not work, I only walk an hour a day it suspose to last 1000 hours. Something's wrong.

It's Okay

I bought this so I could lose weight and while it has helped me want to meet my goals I have set, the math it uses to calculate calories is messed up. You would think it would use time, distance and weight but it only uses steps. So I can run a mile or walk a mile and because when I run I take less steps it shows I burn less calories. I think they could fix this and make a version 2.0 but it when I talked to Nike they did not seem real interested.

Apple NOT environmentally friendly...

...certainly NOT environmentally friendly with this product. I bought the kit in June 2009 and the battery is dead in September 2009. I used it for approximately 200 miles. Now they expect me to fork out $19 plus shipping for another one? Horrible design. I have a cheap heart rate monitor that I can replace the battery (CR2032) when it dies, but if Apple thinks they can fool me into buying something for ANOTHER $20 needlessly, they're wrong. It's wasteful, bad for the environment, and entirely unreasonable. I'm cutting my losses. Google-map your run and get the mileage, compare against time and it'll probably be at least as accurate as this piece of garbage.

I bought the product to work with my I phone, bought it on 8/13/09, and this morning it's not picking up 15 days exactly worked out with it 9 time less than 30 miles. Great product, but like most needs the battery issue worked out! I am so annoyed spent my morning trying to figure the thing out instead of running like I needed to do! I want a refund!!

The concept behind this is amazing. You need to calibrate it at a gym for accuracy, and it is super easy. Once you put it into your Nike shoes, it is hard to get out. So, if you wear your shoes for things other than running, then it is a hassle to remove and reinsert the foam, and it will wear the battery out much quicker. I was under the impression that the sensor is motion activated, and if you carry it around in your purse then it could drain the life. My sensor has lasted over a year, but I am not an avid runner. I bought it for the walk to run program on Nike.com and it has helped motivate me alot. My neighbor is an avid runner, and she dislikes Nikes shoes. She sealed the sensor in duck tape and punched holes in the tape and she ties it in between her laces and shoe tongue. It works great and saves on her battery life, since she can remove it. That will be my next move, Nike shoes or not!

Good product but needs improvement on some angles

While it does it's purpose,like everyone's complain battery life is indeed the problem. It is ridiculous to buy replacement every couple of months. Now, may i also suggest Nike to add a clip to the sensor that way we dont have to buy a 5$ pouch from a retail store.

What a fascinating product from Apple!

Hi, I found this product is a real sensation. Still, I am trying to figure out how this little piece measures the distance close to real value! Other pedo meters compute the steps you take and multiply with a defined value. But, this device has no such calculation.

The bad thing from my side is the battery. I had seen several reviews on this. But, from my side, Apple and Nike should be environmental friendly company as they claim. How can they release this plastic product where the battery cannot be replaced?? What kind of design is this?

You are blind to learn whether this device is active or not. In iPHONE 3GS, there is no screen which tells the battery to be replaced or not. Whereas, the iPOD has a display about the battery status!

Economically, the value this product is $19 but a battery costs less than $3.

Apple designers, be friendly to environment and imagine, millions of the sensors will be dumped every year because of simple battery life!! Come on .... take the lead and be the user friendly leader..!

Could be better

I bought my first sensor in Dec and have a total of (33) 1 hour walks and the battery is now dead. I only use the shoes that the sensor is in to walk.

I really hope the revamp the design and allow the user to replace the battery. Spending $20 every 6-7 months just because a $3 dollar battery dies is crazy.

Please fix the design Apple and Nike!!!!

Other than this obvious flaw the Nike+ is great.

Very disappointed...I loved this product the first 2 times it worked. Then it stopped working. The battery life, if i can even call it that, is totally based on luck. Since you can't really turn the device on or off, because there is only a button, the battery is probably on 24/7. It's probably on before you even open the package. To make this product worth the money, nike/apple should make a sensor with a replaceable battery and an actual on/off switch so you can tell whether it's on or off. Until then, save your money.

Great Way to Track My Runs

I've customized all my running habits onto one easy program. It's great to track my good and bad days. Although a heart rate monitor attachment would make it better, I still get what I need from this equipment.

This is such a great product! It works perfectly. It syncs without a problem and motivates me a lot to keep running or working out. I love how it keeps track of my workouts. The best part is that Lance Armstrong will congratulate you when you achieve a personal best.

Registers incorrect pace while running

I run 3-4 times a week and I have been using Nike+ for well over a year now. I was very happy with my initial purchase. The sensor lasted just over an year, which in my assessment was fair. Then my problems started. I bought a new sensor and the receiver could not detect it at all. So I returned it to the store and they exchanged it for a new one. The new sensor worked fine for a few weeks and after that, it would only register the pace correctly when I am walking (+ or - 5%). It just does not work correctly when I am running. I use it with a second gen iPod in a Nike+ arm band. To test the problem, I took the iPod out and kept it in the cup holder of the treadmill while I ran. While I walked it registered the pace correctly. The moment I started to run the pace reading went haywire and fluctuated randomly between 0.0 min/mile and 29.30 min/mile (0.0 most of the time) while I was running at 10.00 min/mile.

Now I am not sure if this is a problem with the battery or not. Probably not, because then it would not have registered the pace correctly even when I was walking. Right?

If anyone has faced this issue and knows of a solution please respond.
