Apple & Nike Buen Equipo - Great Team

    • Written by from Dover

I must say this is one of the greatest concepts. Works to perfection and it has actually inspired me to work out a little more. As always, user friendly, great interface, plus a great way to keep track of your workout.

good at the beginning and goes all out of wack

Amazing concept but I only had mine for 2 weeks and it started going crazy. It just stop counting the miles. It turned out to be more frustrating than helpful.

    Can't say enough

    • Written by from Fort McMurray

This single piece of equipment has helped me go from a complete non-runner, to someone doing 10k+ non stop. I find it helpful and motivating, and it allows you to compete against yourself.

The price is very reasonable, especially if you already have the nano etc and I get months out of the battery life before having to replace my sensor.

If you are thinking about buying one, or just need something to help make you a bit more accountable - I highly recommend getting it. You don't need the shoes - I just slip the sensor under my laces and wedge it on top of the tongue. Works great!

    Love this!

I love using this as a guide to my amateur running. I have recommended to many friends and they feel the same way. The only negative is now that I have a new IPOD, Classic and now I cannot use it! :-( I am upset. The amount of technology we have in this world and Apple cannot figure out a way for this to work w/o effecting the hard drive!

    Doesn't last

    • Written by from Sallisaw

This review is for real runners only: Works great the first few times, but no replaceable battery and the sensor is garbage after a little bit. Don't waste your money or you'll be buying a new sensor at $20 a pop. It's a great idea, unfortunately Apple either can't or won't put more effort into this product. Pass on this if you're a real runner who actually puts in the miles. This product will not last. Quit buying this garbage and Apple will be forced to upgrade it

    Nike Nano Sport Kit

Works well and is really cheap for what it offers. Would recommend to all! Only bad thing is it does not have support with all ipods.

    Works...but is very inconsistent

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

I've been trying to increase the distance and time that I can run for, and I'm a former track athlete but I was a sprinter. Running long distance is very different for me, and so I bought this to help me keep track of what I was doing and how fast I was going.

It's a great idea and it works well if your strides are very consistent. Mine aren't, and I think the sensor either gets confused or straight up doesn't work (I've tried calibrating it, and it makes no difference).

I run on the treadmill at a steady 7.5 mph pace, which is an 8 minute mile. More often than not, the readout on my phone says I'm going at 23'11" per mile and then it jumps wildly to slower mile times, especially when I speed up to 10 mph on the treadmill (6 min./mile).

I'd be really careful buying this. It might be that it isn't very accurate on the treadmill, but it never seems to be right. I thought it would be exact but it's definitely far from it.

Also, as some other people noted- it's a huge hassle to have to turn the shoe sensor off. Nike should redesign their shoes so that you don't have to remove the insole, or make the battery replaceable and cheap. Buying a new sensor is ridiculous and I understand why that would irritate a lot of people.

Overall, the product is really cool, and it works great with the iPhone 3GS. The NikePlus website is PHENOMENAL for setting workout goals, tracking calories and distances, and mapping out your performance.

My recommendation is this: If you have the money and you want to add more objectivity to your distance workouts, then it's worth a shot. Just know that there's a possibility that if you're capable of running anywhere between a 4:30 mile and a 10 minute mile that it might act up and give inconsistent paces when you check during your workout.

    Great idea, lousy hardware.

    • Written by from De Soto

I loved the concept and initial performance of the Nike + iPod Sports kit. However, after my sensor battery died and I realized that it would cost $20 for a replacement sensor, I was very disappointed. There must be a better idea to have a replaceable battery. Until then I will not buy another sensor.

Do you have it for swimmers?

    • Written by

    Very Nice!
I just try it and it really rocks!.
No problem at all to put it together, it just work the first time.

It would be great if you can do the same thing for swimmers, because in these sport time is much more critical and important than in others.

These is the kind of product that made Apple what it is!.

    Simply does not work

    • Written by from Sydney

Firstly I think these positive reviews are put by Apple Employees. Secondly, it just does not work at all. I bought the first sensor and put it into the shoe, did not work, and spend 2 hours walking, turning on and off. Took it back to Apple for the second one which actually lasted...20 mins. Then I bought one from Rebel Sport, again, did not work. Now taking them all back for a fourth one. Why should I have to keep coming back to keep changing things that do not work?

Make sure you turn it off!

    • Written by from San Angelo

I used the kit 2 times before it stopped working. Make sure you turn off the sensor if you're going to carry it around in a backpack, car, etc. But those two times I used it it was great!

    See you outside!

    • Written by from Beaverton

I just got a pair of Nike+ shoes (Nike's work well for my narrow feet anyway) and the sensor yesterday and tried it out with my ipod touch. It was so fun! I had no problems getting the sensor to connect to the ipod.

The best thing for me - I no longer have to go walk/run on the treadmill at the gym just to get feedback on my speed, distance, etc. See you outside!

GREAT concept - Poor Sensor Battery Life

    • Written by from Roseville

I like the products capabilities but I do have to agree with other users, the battery life is very poor. I'm an average runner/walker 4 miles a day, 3 to 4 times a week. I have went through 2 sensors within 6 months of each other. You can try to turn off the sensor but it's more work then it's worth.

Apple you have superior products, don't let this one be any different. Please provide users the option of replacing the battery within the sensor.

    Great Motivator!

    • Written by

I received the kit for Mother's Day 2 years ago. At first I was a bit skeptical, but after using it for a while, loved. I started with an older Nano, then upgraded to the newer one right before they came out with the new ones! A bit frustrating trying to keep up with changing technology. I have never had any problems except that the battery went out in the sensor so I had to order a new one. No problem there, it was here in about 3 days. Considering that I use it every day, I guess 1 1/2 years of battery life is okay. I would like it better if you could just replace the battery though. I love the Nike + website and have joined lots of challenges which keep you motivated. I have now walked 1500+ miles and my doctor tells me that I am in the best shape I have been in a long time.

    Couldn't be happier.

    • Written by from South Ryegate

I don't love running. I don't even like running. However, I need to exercise and running is the most convenient (in terms of time and equipment needed) way to accomplish that goal. I have to say that the nike+ system together with my nano is a great motivator to getting out there. I really like the nike website which allows you to challenge yourself and others in numerous ways. It's this kind of competition that makes me want to go run. The device itself has worked flawlessly. I have used it with Nike shoes and in other shoes by attaching the sensor to the shoelaces. Either way it has worked great! I would highly recommend this product!

Wish I could Get it to Work!

    • Written by from Mountain Home

I've tried two iTouch units and three sensors without any success....they never seem to establish a solid link. Apple support believes it to be a software issue with 3.0. I love my iTouch and really hope a 3.1 version fixes my problem. Would give it 5 stars if it worked for me.

    Nike+ trained me for a 1/2 Marathon!

    • Written by from atlanta

    I love my Nike+ sensor...

I had never trained for a road race of any kind, and I purchased this, hoping that it could offer some kind of training. It did that and more! I ran two 5k runs and then ran the Weather Channel Half Marathon last November 2008!

    Best features:
    1. Nikeplus.com - where you can track every run you do, set goals, and follow training programs (VERY motivational, you can even print certificates of achievement when you hit your 100th mile, 500th mile, etc!)
    2. The coach, she (or he) tells you how far you've ran, how long you have to go, etc...
    3. When you reach a personal best, a pro athlete (Tiger Woods, Lance Armstrong...) congratulates you!

The only problems with it are:
    1. If it rains, hide the sensor b/c it WILL fry (lost my first one this way)
    2. It doesn't save information if your iPod dies during a workout

    Buy it! For real!

Apple and Nike, it should have been a utopia and its a DUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Written by from Henderson

With all of the mixed reviews I read below I decided to give it a go because one would think that if you take two giants in their fields and have them collaborate on a product, that product would be almost perfect. However I am learning first hand that all of the very disappointed reviews below are right on the money. My first Nike + iPod Sport Kit, worked (using the term loosely) as far as my gen 4 Nano recognizing the adapter which attaches to the Nano and linking with the shoe sensor, however that is as far as I got. The shoe sensor had to be calibrated every time I walked or ran and even once calibrated (ever time on a local HS running track) it was displaying incorrect distance and pace. So as I drove by the Apple store this past Sunday I thought I give it one more try and second Nike + iPod Sport Kit was a complete DUD!!!!!!! The shoe sensor would not link with the Nano which according to the other review looks like a battery problem. I tried to make sure that it was not the Nano so I tried to link the shoe sensor to my iPhone and no go. Needles to say, the DUD is going back and no third tries. However I hope that with enough of these review, Apple will either fix these issues or re-engineer this product. PS when you (Apple) do, let me know, because even though you have me very disappointed with this product, I still am a true Apple believer and in love with all of your products so I am willing to give you another try.

    Best device to train with!

    • Written by from Seattle

I used this to train for a half marathon, and I couldn't have picked a better trainer! It helped with my time, pace, and distance. I highly suggest it! It's also exciting to hear Lance Armstrong come on and tell you that you made a best time :)
