    I'd give it a zero

Written by IT from Banja Luka

    26-Nov-2009

First of all, I did NOT buy the wrong adapter. This is the only Apple solution for getting graphics out of iMac to my HDTV (via DVI - HDMI cable, of course). Apple, do you realize how ugly, bulky and loose it looks like at the rear side of my iMac now? Seriously, for $19, you could at least make a LITTLE longer version of it (at least not to get stuck in the cable hole), or (better yet) provide an option of mini-DVI to HDMI. You're losing it big time, lately.

    Beware it's a DVI-D female adapter

Written by RG from MILTON KEYNES

    19-Nov-2009

So looking forward to plugging my new iMac Mini into my Benq2200HD LCD monitor via the DVI-D input on the back but...

The supplied adapter from Apple is a female connecter and the Benq is also female so no sweet music tonight. Quite miffed. Can't find a male DVI-D adapter in the Apple store so don't know what to do? I also can't find a DVI-D male-to-female gender bender anywhere on the web.Probably need to go buy a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and throw this one in the bin. So a trip to my local Apple store tomorrow morning with cables in tow to see what options I have.

    Does What It Says

    Written by BG from Natick

    10-Nov-2009

Does what it says it does, simple as that. I wish the cord was about 6" longer, though. I have a 20" iMac with a 20" cinema display as an extended desktop. Besides for an issue with the 20" CD's power supply/cord design this combo is more than ideal.

And to people buy the wrong cables: Yes, I understand Apple does complicate this a bit more than they should. But that doesn't mean if you know nothing about a product you should just assume it works. Ask someone of proper technical expertise, visit an Apple store and ask an employee, call up Apple, just don't assume you can get lucky and then get all mad when you don't. You wouldn't buy a counter-top for your kitchen without knowing the proper measurements I hope...

    Works fine

    Written by LF from Bothell

This Apple Mini-DVI to DVI adapter works fine with a Belkin DVI-to-HDMI cable (TR843LL/A) on my iMac. Just plugged the cables together to my TV and selected 'Detect displays' on the Display preferences window.

    iMac: 24" 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
TV: Samsung UN55B6000 on HDMI input #3

I thought I'd have to rearrange my HDMI inputs to use input #1 based on comments in the TV user manual concerning DVI to HDMI conversion. I tried input #3 (the next open spot) and got immediate success.

5 stars? The part was no more expensive than I expected and worked straightforwardly.

    works well

    Written by SH from ORANGEVILLE

    24-Oct-2009

While traveling in England I had a 13" MacBook and was trying to do web programming. Nowhere near enough real estate! Spent 2 weeks wishing for an external monitor. Then it occurred to me that the 27" TV in my flat was HDMI compatible (duh). So I bought this adapter and a VGA->HDMI cable. Plugged the adapter into my laptop, the VGA end of the cable into the adapter, and the HDMI end of the cable to the TV, set the TV to HDMI input, and it worked like a charm. I was able to mirror or have an extended desktop (my preference). I was able to walk down the street and pick this up at any one of the many Apple-authorized computer stores around (Apple, why can't you have these in the States??) I was looking for a mini-DVI->HDMI adapter so I could buy a standard HDMI cable (which I would have been able to re-purpose later), but they didn't have one. This alternate solution works just fine.

    This is for DVI-D ONLY

    Written by JN from Toronto

    23-Oct-2009

Be careful - this adapter can only be used with DVI-D connectors. There is a difference - you can see examples on Wikipedia - search for "Digital Visual Interface".

DVI-I and/pr DVI-A connectors/cables will NOT work with this adapter.

    Awesome!

I bought this product yesterday and I am very pleased with it. My iMac with Intel Duo LCD is broken and it would've cost $631 (part+labor but not including tax) to replace the LCD panel because I do not have Apple Care. Bought this Mini DVI to DVI adapter and a new monitor - it works awesome!

    Useless

    Written by AG from Middletown

    10-Sep-2009

I purchased this cable so that I could connect my MacbookPro to my 21" DVI monitor. The cable is only 5" long, which renders it physically useless as a cable needed to connect the two. I did not see the length of the cable in the description, but I just don't understand how this could be used without a cable extender, which I don't see on this web site. I am sure this cable has a purpose, but I can't find one at the moment.

I bought this for my 12" Powerbook G4 as per the information on the website. I will now have to buy the Micro-DVI. It is hardly worth returning a $25. item with the costs involved. The information should link to the Micro-DVI site to ensure a better choice.

    Works Great

    Written by MA from Roseville

    14-Aug-2009

To those with a misunderstanding... DVI-D stands for "DVI-Digital" and DVI-I stands for "DVI-Integrated".
DVI-I is the older standard that could push both digital and analog signals. DVI-D is digital only. As long as you use the right DVI (DVI-D) cable to your monitor you will be in buisness.
    Taken from Wikipedia:
"The long flat pin on a DVI-I connector is wider than the same pin on a DVI-D connector, so it is not possible to connect a male DVI-I to a female DVI-D by removing the 4 analog pins. It is possible, however, to connect a male DVI-D cable to a female DVI-I connector. Many flat panel LCD monitors have only the DVI-D connection so that a DVI-D male to DVI-D male cable will suffice when connecting the monitor to a computer's DVI-I female connector."

    This is DVI-D

Written by JO from la quinta

    3-Aug-2009

This is a Dual Display DVI-D not DVI-I. Not to big of a deal because the adapter is cheap, but beware older DVI monitors probably won't work with this alone. Bad rating cause of the lack of this information on the site.

    Works perfectly!

    Written by DA from Monterrey

    20-Jun-2009

It does what it says it will do. It does it perfectly.

The problem for folks saying that it does not fit certain models is because they bought the wrong product. They bought a mini, when they needed to be buying a micro. Two different word with different meanings.

    Mini DVI to DVI

    Written by GA from Weston

    20-May-2009

It is perfect for what it is sold. I pluged it in, then bought a DVI to HDMI converter, then just used my HDMI cable from the DVD player. It is tricky getting a mirrror image off the screen, the instructions are not so clear but with a little tinkering it is done. Very pleasant viewing in HD.

does exactly what it says it will, nothing more. It does cost a bit more than it should though, and I think the price should be dropped to $15 because it is now outdated by mini display port.
