    Disaster

    • Written by from Bray

Went on holidays to our home in Tenerife, leaving a WeMo switch controlling the heating back in Ireland. On installing another WeMo switch in Tenerife, WeMo deleted my remote access to the WeMo in Ireland without warning (I established later that you only have remote access to WeMo's in one location - major shortcoming). Heating left on 24/7. I am a programmer and desperately tried to get telnet, web or any kind of access to the device in order to switch it off. Technical support were totally clueless and unhelpful. Head office did not return any of my calls. If you loose your remote access settings from your mobile to a WeMo device, you are doomed. I wish I had read some of the reviews below before buying this product.

WeMo Switches and support is a desaster

    • Written by from Stuttgart

I used WeMo switches for a long time. With every software update of the app or the firmware of the switches there came up new problems. Especialy the rules are not working as it is promised in the maual. The explanations in the manaual are reduced to the max. Nobody can really understand what is meant or the function of the rules (for example the sunset rules). But at least I got the system running. The support ist not worth the name. The answer I heard very often: "there must be a software problem and we try to find a solution". Yo´ll never get a concret answer to your proplem.

The system itself is from it´s functions (as it should be) very good, but there are so many software buggs that everyone will earlier or later stop to use the system because it´s not reliable at all.

Sorry to say, but the system is still in a development phase and not ready at all for a worldwide market. Improve the system, improve your people and improve your support - otherwise WeMo will keep a recomendation as a desater company.

Limited scope and a bit unstable

    • Written by from Richmond

I purchased a regular and Insight version of this switch late last winter. They were both OK, but my first negative observations were: I didn't seem to be able to control them from both my iPhone and my iPad. I got some flaky error. So I just used my iPhone. Then while traveling in September the switch on my router went off by itself. I have my WeMos on a separate network, so I was able to power cycle it successfully. Today, I updated the firmware and my Insight switch is "Not Detected" about 2/3 of the time. Also, I don't see a way to have multiple homes setup on the same WeMo account. It should allow for that for multiple WiFi networks in the same building or for vacation homes.

    Works great

As long as your devices meet the prerequisites (in my case my air conditioners restart after a power outage) great product and app!

    WeMo app almost there

    • Written by from Bristol

I have had an almost perfect experience with Wemo. I use the Switch for turning on table lamps around the house using the free App. This gives manual control, a variety of timer controls (time of day, sunrise/ sunset and off sets of sunrise/ set), there is even a random mode for when you are away from home which activates between sunset - rise using your geographical location to know when that is. They can also be automated via IFTTT.
Set up via the App is so simple it's almost child play.
If I have one complaint, it is with remote access via the app. The app states that it is continually updating firmware. This stops when i return to my home network. I get round this with IFTTT where i can send an email, text etc to remotely control the units if needed.

    Update has a bug

    • Written by from Newbury,

Basically they used to work fine and since the latest update they don't respond with the network. Even if you get them setup it seems the wifi on the plugs turns itself off after a certain amount of time and then they are undiscoverable. Belkin need to change this back quick or a lot of people are buying really expensive pieces of plastic. Revert back to the old update settings and give us that as an update or sort it out properly

Just wait, all you with positive reviews will change to 1*

    • Written by from Vista

Worked great for a few months. Then with a new firmware install I have not been able to find or setup ANY of the four devices I had working fine before. Their solution? Reset. I did this on all four devices and everyone fails and says "lost connection" during setup. Once that is done, you have to do a reset again because the app will never find a device. I have done this about 10 times now and not a single decide works. These are not ready for primetime. The most frustrating junk I have ever used.

    Power Outages, bad design

    • Written by from Berkeley Heights

In the event of a power outage the WeMo does NOT keep the last power state. Always comes back in OFF status. That bites.

    Reliability Issues

    • Written by from Makawao

I liked it when I first got it a year or so ago, but the other day it just went dead...no lights, no AC power no anything, just dead. Since it uses tamper proof screws, and my collection of triangle shaped screwdriver blades is non-existent, I was forced to buy another to replace it. I like it, I'm just not sure it's worh 50 bucks a year.

    First WeMo Switch

    • Written by from caledon

This is hands down one of the best first impressions that I have had of a product. There are very few pieces of technology where you open the box, download and app, power the product, and you're basically set. I haven't tried all of the other products yet but the switch is definitely a must purchase. Thanks Belkin for making getting out of the shower in the morning far more enjoyable! (I use the switch to power a space heater in my washroom 15 minutes before my alarm goes off in the mornings).

    Great idea, half baked execution.

    • Written by from Niagara On The Lake

I love the concept of the WeMo line of products, however this product feels entirely half-baked. It's full of bugs and is quite frankly a nightmare to use. Once set up, it works as advertised, but getting there is a nightmare. The simple three step setup instructions advertised in the box work, after about the 6th or 7th try. Oh, and if you want to add a second WeMo device to your network, you're out of luck. The second will just destroy all of the settings and configuration of the first.

All in all, Belkin is marketing to the home automation network with great ambition but needs to spend a little more time working out the bugs before releasing these things to market. I wish Nest made a WiFi light switch...

    Belkin WeMo Switch

    • Written by from Navarre

have been using them for a few months now. Have not had any issues to speak of, those that have been experiencing problems probably have WiFi interference problem. On of my switch was on the edge of my network (weak signal from router) and sometimes would take a while to show up on the app (30 -40 seconds). added an wifi extender to my house and that took care of it. you must understand the operation of these switches, they use very little bandwidth and are not dumping information every second. all and all am very happy with the switch, wish they would make a 240vac one to control my spa heater.

    Love my WEMO

    • Written by from KALGOORLIE

Not sure why everyone is blaming Belkin for their own issues, to me it sounds like modem settings of their wifi routers that are the main issue, I have about 8 wemo switches and light switches in my house and have never had any connection issues.

    As promised/expected

    • Written by from Vancouver

The installation was as easy as the reviews I read said it was. Quick and easy. I have the switch plugged into the upper outlet and can still plug something in the bottom though a bulky charger might be a problem to fit. I used it for a light behind something that was impossible to get at without this. It has worked perfectly. Very pleased.

    Not a consumer ready product

    • Written by from Austin

I've had the wemo product for 4 months, and I can say that I'm not satisfied. The devices continually do not show up in the app & the addition of new devices to the network seems to throw off a delicate balance of network settings. Great Idea, but I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this product yet. @Belkin- Go buy a dropcam and use their app. Their service is reliable.

    Worst. Product. Ever.

    • Written by from Bedford

I figured that seeing this at an Apple store would lend some credibility to the value of the product, but not so. It has undocumented network requirements that render it useless unless they are met. They can only be found by extensive searching. Even then it's a long shot as to whether the thing will STAY working. Hopefully if you buy this product, your power will never go out, since trying to get it to work after disconnecting the power is a nightmare.

Great idea, flawed implementation. This is being returned ASAP.

    WeMo Blow

    • Written by from Greensburg

Product didn't work from start. Because I received a couple of gift cards from Apple for buy iPads, I decided to try this product, even with the bad reviews. I should have know better. If a product has almost the same amount of 5 stars as 1 stars, you know it is junk. If you want to waste $50, then you should buy this product, but suggest going elsewhere and purchasing the same thing through a more reputable company, Belkin makes great surge protectors, but apparently know very little about wifi.
