Answer
The Canon EOS 5D MkII's video is recorded natively in H.264 at circa 38Mbs, that's a higher bit rate than HDV. Final Cut Pro v7 (part of Final Cut Studio v3) will natively handle the Canon's video with no conversion required.
The Elgato Turbo is essentially a convertor from a non H.264 format to an H.264 format or from one H.264 format to another H.264 format.- Answered by David O

Does this work only with its own software, or will it work with any software(eg. wondershare video convetor) that converts video into a h264 file.
There are many applications on the web that are for converting from one video format to another. I use a few of these and would like files that I convert to h264 to be faster.
Most of the videos I am converting from are dvd I have. I use wondershare video convertor pro for ripping from dvd to h264 for my apple tv.
If Elgato Turbo.264 HD video encoder only works with its own software, then I have no need for it.- Asked by Heath D from San Francisco

What is the quality like of the outputted file?
I have a Sony XR-520VE Camcorder which records 1920 x 1080i50 footage at 16Mb/s with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround @ 448kb/s I believe.
If I use Turbo.264 HD to convert the AVCHD files to H.264, will the resulting quality of the file in terms of sharpness and colour/brightness, be equal to that of the original AVCHD if the file is encoded at the same settings (16Mb/s, 1080 deinterlaced to 25p, 5.1 Surround @ 448Kb/s)
iMovie creates stunning files, equivalent to the originals, but takes ages.
If Turbo.264 HD can produce the same files, in much less time, I would be over the moon.- Asked by Frederick L

Answer
The Turbo.264 HD can output 1080P at up to 20mbps. It produces high quality conversions from HD material, but it will certainly not match the original. That's simply not possible.
To make sure it's right for you, you might consider buying one from a reseller which accepts returns, so you can try it on your own material and decide for yourself.- Answered by Mike E

Multiple Units at once.
I am wondering if the encoders can be run in configurations of more than one to increase speed of a single Video file, or multiple simultaneous Video files.
Also, from the images on the apple site, it shows a selector that says 1 or 2 video files. Does selecting one make it encode at double the speed of two files? Can someone elaborate on this a little please?- Asked by Michael I from Coldstream
