No, this is a 3.5 size for desktops. you need a 2.5 size drive for laptops.

Unfortunately no. The physical size of this hard drive is 3.5" you will need a 2.5" drive for your Mac Book Pro. A word of caution though, especially depending on the age of your computer, replacing the hard drive on the Mac Book Pro requires that you take it fairly apart, I wouldn't recommend replacing the hard drive yourself unless you are familiar with computer hardware.

what are the average read and write speeds for the 1tb 7200 rpm 3 gb/s hard disk drive?

Depending on manufacturer of the drive, the average read/write speed could be between 120 and 190 MB/s.

Actually yes. I have three macs. One of which is a G5 and G5's except all SATAs. I've never had a problem switching them out. The guy who said no, doesn't have a clue. Trust me I've built computers for 15 years and was a certified tech.
