Yes you can... on the back of the monitor there is a cord that will plug into your mini display port. It will transfer video only. Audio transfer will require a separate cord such as an Auxiliary cord going from your Mac to the Monitor or Speakers.
You can also allow sound to play from your PRO or a Bluetooth audio stream.
FYI, all the models after 2010 transfer both audio and video through that mini display port not to Mention it's thunderbolt capability- Answered by Joseph A from Livonia

Will this Apple LED Cinema Display function as a display if placed as the terminal device along a Thunderbolt daisy chain?
i.e. if I currently own a 24" or 27" LED Cinema Display connected via MDP, and this fall obtain an Apple Thunderbolt Display and connect it to a Thunderbolt-compatible Mac, can the older model still be used? Or do both external monitors have to be the Thunderbolt model?

An LED Cinema Display will not function when attached to a Thunderbolt display. Refer to Apple support document titled "Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch): Connection options for Thunderbolt Macs" for this passage:
"Mini DisplayPort displays will not light up if connected to the Thunderbolt port of an Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch). Displays connected via Mini DisplayPort video adapter to the Thunderbolt port of an Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch) will not work."
Search for HT4885 in the apple.com search field to get to this document, which discusses other connection issues surrounding the Thunderbolt Displays.- Answered by Dean S from Seattle

No direct cable connection, but I'm sure you can look at ElGato products for that. As for allowing the use of the built in camera (or any other webcam) I use something called EVOcam. It allows you to remotely view your webcam and I believe you can save logs and images for archiving and you should be able to set it up for motion detect as well. Hope that helps.

Does the Apple LED Cinema Display work with the current model MacBook Pro with the Retina display?
I have the current model of the MacBook Pro and would like to know the level of compatibility with the LED Cinema Display as it was released prior to the release of the new MacBook Pro. For example the mag safe connection and HDMI if there is one.

This is the setup that i currently have. There is no HDMI connector for the Apple Cinema Display, but the mini-display port works and the USB connection works (but hould need the MagSafe adaptor for the power connection.)
I purchased my ACD before thunderbolt came out. If you are looking at this display and already have a MacBook Pro with Retina Display, you may want to consider the Apple Thunderbolt Display.- Answered by David M from Orange Park

Best Answer
Hi, yes in a sense it will.
You can go into system preferences, displays and in the Display button, there is an option to select to Rotation. This will allow you to rotate the output of the screen to different angles, including a portrait if you select 90 degrees.
Otherwise, the display itself is fixed in landscape orientation physically.
Hope this helps.- Answered by Kenneth B from Caledon

Is it full-led backlight?
I'm asking of led backlight type, not full HD.
is it full led backlight or edge led backlight??- Asked by Moonseok K from Hillsboro

Best Answer
Yes. Just as is the Thunderbolt Display.
From the Thunderbolt display's description: "LED backlighting. Bright on. Full brightness with no waiting. That’s the big advantage of LED backlight technology. Unlike most displays that take time to warm up before they reach maximum brightness, an LED-backlit display is instantly on and uniformly bright. LED backlighting also gives you greater control over screen brightness."
I am almost certain that the Thunderbolt Display and the Apple LED Cinema Displays are identical apart from connectivity and associated ports (Thunderbolt instead of Mini Display Port), and other ports :
Thunderbolt Peripheral connections
✵ Three powered USB 2.0 ports
✵ FireWire 800 port
✵ Gigabit Ethernet Port
✵ Kensington security slot.
Apple LED Cinema Display
✵ Three powered USB 2.0 ports
✵ Kensington security slot
The Display itself, in both cases, share the same Technical Specs:
✵ Screen size: 27 inches (diagonal viewable)
✵ Screen type: TFT active-matrix LCD with in-plane switching (IPS)
✵ Resolution: 2560 by 1440 pixels
✵ Colors: 16.7 million
✵ Aspect ratio: 16:9
✵ Viewing angle: 178° horizontal; 178° vertical
✵ Brightness: 375 cd/m2
✵ Contrast ratio: 1000:1
✵ Response time: 12 ms
Additionally, both displays are identical in their physical measurements (Height, Width, depth, and weight).- Answered by Geoffrey G from Austin

if your mac pro has the Mini DisplayPort then you won't need anything else, otherwise you will need to buy the correct adapter to match your existing connection.

Is the Apple LED Cinema Display {27'' flat panel a touch screen monitor?
the question i had asked is very civilized

Best Answer
Sorry … No.
Apple feels the vertical orientation of the
screen does not lend itself well to the touch
interface.
This might change in the future but this model will not
be upgradable to touch capability.
