I have non-Thunderbolt MBP now... If I get this for my current Mac, will this monitor somehow work with a Thunderbolt-equipped when I get one?
I currently have a 2010 MacBook Pro that doesn't have Thunderbolt. If I get this monitor to connect to my current MBP, then I upgrade to a newer, Thunderbolt-equipped later, with this monitor connect to my TB Mac by some method so I can still use it as a monitor (regardless of the TB-specific features)? I ask because I need a second monitor now but likely won't be upgrading my computer for a year or two. I have heard how long these monitors can last and am hoping I can continue using it after I upgrade given how expensive it is.
- Asked by Neil B from Victoria

AnswerYes. Thunderbolt in the latest MBP utilizes the same physical plug as mini-Displayport that this monitor has as its video cable. More importantly, Thunderbolt output from the latest MBP is also technically designed to pass the Displayport video signal through to monitors such as this one that does out have a Thunderbolt connection.
The other way around is what is not possible...there is no way to connect a non-Thunderbolt MBP (or any other computer for that matter) to a Thunderbolt 27" display because Thunderbolt Cinema Display's Thunderbolt video input can only handle an income Thunderbolt video signal and it has no other video inputs.- Answered by Andrew C from Santa Cruz

Will this work with a Mac Mini Mid 2010?
I have a Mac Mini Mid 2010 and was wondering if this screen would work with it. This screen is newer than my mac mini so I was wondering if the mini display port would still work and what the difference is between the Thunder Bolt display and this one.

Best AnswerI have not purchased this particular refurbished product, however, routinely buy refurbished Apple products and they consistently arrive in perfect condition free from any scratches or imperfections. I personally would not be hesitant of buying a refurbished monitor from Apple.

Does this work with MacBook Air? Are any additional cables required?
- Asked by Joshua M from Houston
- 10-Apr-2012
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerYes it should work with the Macbook Air fine. I have a professor in my school of art at college who has the same monitor hooked up to an 11" Macbook Air regularly. The Macbook Air is equipped with a Thunderbolt Port that is the same style connector as the Display Port this monitor comes with. This monitor comes with a USB, Display Port, & mag-safe all-in-one charger (which you can see in the product pictures) for hooking up a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro to this screen for a larger viewing area. You should not have to purchase any extra cables. -TYPØ

Will this work with my HP EliteBook 8740w, w/Display port connector
I have a HP EliteBook 8740w, with a Display port connector. I have already tried connecting it to my wife's iMac 27" and I know it works good. With that in mind, I would assume based on that, that it would work. However, I am curious about the drivers for the isight camera and the usb hub.

I'm interested in this monitor, but can't tell if it is glossy or matte screen. Can you let me know? I need a matte screen for my work. Thanks.

AnswerThis monitor is glossy. It looks the same as an iMac display. You may want to check out the Apple Cinema Displays (Non-LED) that were released about 2005. They're great screens and have a matte finish.

Is this display compatible with older powerbooks with a different (larger) display port?
- Asked by Sonja H from Alameda
- 18-Jan-2011
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerNo. It only works with new machines with mini-displayport connections. Older PowerBooks and MacBook Pros with DVI ports do not output a compatible signal therefore an adapter will not work.
