Best AnswerDepends on your Mac's processor.
If it is a PowerPC processor, you CAN NOT install Snow Leopard.
If it is an Intel processor, you CAN install Snow Leopard.
To determine the type of processor, go to "About this Mac" in the "Apple" menu. If the word "Intel" appears anywhere next to "Processor", you can install Snow Leopard. You need at least 1GB of memory, 2GB or more is better.
TIP: Consider installing Snow Leopard on a separate partition (especially since Snow Leopard may need to do some reformatting of the partition it is being installed to). With an OS installed on two partitions, you can then start up from either the Tiger partition or the Snow Leopard partition by pressing the Option Key during startup (or using the Start Up Disk preference in System Preferences). This lets you keep you OS 10.4.11 installation in case you want to jump back.
BTW: If installing to a new partition, Snow Leopard installer will search your Mac for other OS installations and ask you if you want to import OS settings, apps, and/or files from an older installation. Say yes to all for a smoother transition to Snow Leopard. All settings, compatible apps/drivers and files will be copied to the new partition.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

Best AnswerFirst, upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard. You can purchase this at some stores, but only if they still have supply. They will not have it on display and you have to specifically ask for it. You can also order it online directly from Apple:
store.apple.com /us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Once you have 10.6 installed, you can update to 10.6.8 and use the Apple Mac Store to upgrade to 10.7 Lion because the MacBook4,1 and MacBook4,2 do not support 10.8 Mountain Lion. However, you might need to call Apple Care in order to purchase this over the phone, as they no longer list 10.7 Lion in their app store.- Answered by Miles R from Lakewood

Best AnswerPersonally, don't bother with 10.8- Snow Leopard has been tagged as a very and reliable stable operating system for many into photography, music and high processor-demanding applications.
Your system is plenty for Snow Leopard but might take a hit on Mountain Lion. I/m running an early 2010 MBP and experienced issues immediately with ML, but none with SL

What software comes with a refurbished MBP?
If I'm correct, a new MBP would come with a copy of iLife.
If I buy a refurbished MBP which comes on lion and is eligible for the ML upgrade program, do I get a copy? And I assume iWork doesn't come with it?- Asked by Benton K from Salisbury

Best AnswerIf your computer has Power-PC, you cannot upgrade without new hardware. If it has Intel-inside, then you can upgrade to 10.6 or 10.7 or 10.8.

AMD and RAW Format???
HI there
Im planning to buy the Mac OS X Leopard since buying Mac OS X Lion is out of the question. and going to try and install on the AMD Phenom 965 x4. Will this work? on some logs people have actually installed Mac on an AMD processor (mainly on the latest releases).
Also i am having troubles accessing an external hard drive because it changed to a RAW format on my Windows 7 PC. I have heard somewhere that Mac might be able to read RAW. Is this correct? If not do you have any solutions?

Do I have to backup all my data from my OS X version 10.5.8 before I upgrade to OS 10.6.8 and then OS X Mountain Lion?

Best AnswerNo, but it is a great idea. What will happen if something goes wrong during the install, like a power failure? How many days or weeks will it take you to replace your data? Buy an external hard drive, and open "time machine" on the mac. Simple.

- Asked about: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
AnswerYou can install Snow Leopard (OS 10.6) on your Mac and then do Software Updates (under the Apple Menu) to bring it up to OS 10.6.8.
Lion (OS 10.7) is also supported by your Mac, but Mountain Lion (OS 10.8) is not supported.
If you plan to upgrade to Lion, you used to go to the App Store to download and install (or buy a flash drive with the Lion installer on it). To access the App Store you had to have at least OS 10.6.6 already installed. However, Lion is no longer at the App Store and one needs to call Apple Customer Service to get it.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve
