Some of the higher-end models are, but the lower-end models might not have a fast-enough CPU to decode multiple high-definition video streams. If in doubt, go with the Mac Pro or MacBook Pro.

Video/photo editing
I am intrested in buying the base model 13 inch MacBook Air. Can it handle without lag video editing in 1080p shot with my Canon T3i? Also, would the 8GB ram upgrade benefit editing? Lastly, how well does the machine perform when editing photos on Aperture?
Thanks in advance!- Asked by Victor J from Pompano Beach

AnswerI have the 13 inch MacBook Air with 4GB of RAM. I notice very minimal lags when editing in 1080p, even with multiple applications and background tasks running. I think the 8GB of RAM would significantly increase the performance, and is a good move since it is soldered to the logic board. I notice no lags at all in Aperture, as it is much less demanding. Finally, I would suggest choosing the best processor available, as the upgrade will pay off in the long run, and keep your computer up-to-date for a longer period of time. All of the upgrades are worth it!

If you want a server, Mac is probably not your best option unless you have a specific need to run Mac programs. Mac is a desktop computer. Even the Apple website itself uses a Linux-based server. Good server operating systems include Linux (CentOS or Red Hat), OpenBSD, NetBSD, and FreeBSD.

Which Mac is right for me?
Hi. I am looking for a MacBook Pro. I need it for:
holding and using my iTunes library
storing my photos
playing around with photos in Lightroom or Apeture
basic word processing
running Quicken or another small business app
using the internet
It'd be nice to be able to edit home videos, etc, but it's not a top priority.
I have been looking at the refurbished options and the educator discount, and the refurbs seem like a much better deal.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.- Asked by Susan D from Healdsburg

- Asked about: Apogee MiC Microphone
Best AnswerSimply it's a upgraded sound card for your Mac.
External audio interfaces let you record audio - converting the analog sound to digital data providing the audio component for multimedia applications such as music composition, editing video or audio, presentation, education and entertainment.
Also providing connections for external monitors and inputs such as XLR for microphones and line in connection for instruments.
Simple song writing can be had with a USB mic and a midi keyboard.- Answered by David P from Mississauga

i dont know which macbook to choose...
i am a researcher, who always travels to present in international conferences and i badly need a good notebook. i've been searching for the one that suits me (work like microsoft office programs, minimal graphics, heavy internet usage), which is sleek, slim, lightweight and most importantly, fast. during my travels, definitely i listen to mp3s and watch movies on the plane (or while waiting at the airport). i play minimal games on my previous laptop (mainly soccer and RPGs). i have no idea which to choose: macbook air or macbook pro or just a normal laptop.

AnswerBecause you will be traveling a lot, you should definitely go with the higher end MacBook Air 13 inch with 256GB or more of flash storage. I know, it is costly but in the long run it will be worth it since you cannot upgrade later. You will appreciate its fast start up time, extremely light weight, and beautiful thin tapered design. It is perfect for everyday use like streaming movies, word processing, and surfing the net. The new HD webcam is great for video conferencing. For very light gaming, the Air can perform OK. Good luck and enjoy your Macintosh!

Is the macbook air good for my needs?
Right now I'm in the process of trying to figure out what macbook to get, and while I'm really leaning towards the Air, I am not entirely convinced.
Basically, I'm going to be traveling a lot for the next few years, which is why the lightness of the air appeals to me. I'm pretty much planning on using it for writing documents, storing pictures, watching movies, skyping people, browsing the internet, and storing my iTunes library on. Is the air good for that, and will it last a good amount of time? I've had a regular macbook since early 2008, and while it's given me no problems up til now, it's getting old and slow, and this is after 4 years of heavy use in university. I don't think I'll be using this mac as much as I did in uni, but I would like to have something that's pretty solid and will last awhile. So yeah, is the air my best bet?- Asked by Nadine B from Barrie

AnswerThe only possible issue I can see would be the fact that it doesn't have a built-in optical drive (CD/DVD reader/writer). You can buy one that plugs into the MacBook Air and works fine from Apple, but that will be one extra item to bring along on your travels. But nothing you mentioned sounds like it will be too much for a MacBook Air.
