I've read in other reviews that you only get the motion or sound alerts if you have the app actively running on your iOS device. Is this true?

Yes. The app must be active, not in the background.

  • You don't have to have the app running if you follow their instructions to send you motion or sound alerts over emails. That mode works great and is very reliable. It is also supposed to work well with alerts and an FTP server, but I have not tried it yet!
