Can I use Time Capsule to stream iTunes videos to my MacBook Pro which is connected to my LCD television?

I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro and I connect the laptop to the TV to watch my iTunes movies and TV shows but many of them are on my iMac so I stream them through home sharing to my laptop. An Airport Express provides the network and the internet. With HD shows though i often find it lagging and skipping. So i want to use the Time Capsule to store all my itunes videos and stream them to whatever i want to watch them on. Possible?

Yes, but your lagging will continue (nothing will change) as long as any part of the pathway is wifi. Time Capsule does not do anything different than the Airport Express, except hold data either on its internal HD or one attached via USB.

If you use the built-in gigabit ethernet switch on the Time Capsule to both connect (via Cat 5 or better wire,) the MacBook Pro and the iMac, then you could avoid the skips and lag.

If you only want to watch video on your TV, then the new Apple TV is the better device. It can (wifi) stream from either the content on your MacBook Pro or iMac. The difference is caching the data so no skips occur.

  • It would be better to fix the lag problem, buying an apple tv and connect it by cable.
