Can i connect my time capsule to my television and watch my movies and view my photos without having to turn on my lap top?

    No. The Time Capsule is strictly a storage device, and doesn't run any software on it itself to do that. For that, you'd probably want to look into an Apple TV, which does exactly what you want.

  • If you want to connect directly to it and use it like Apple TV or if you expect that it will be used like uPnP server (DLNA server) - then no, you can't.
    But if you have TV that can be connected to the network with cable or over wi-fi and this TV can play shared files from network, then you can use TC like shared resource to play files from.
