Target Display Mode?
Hello all,
Ok so here's my situation. I have a mid 2010 iMac and a 2008 Mac Pro tower that I recently acquired in a trade for my older Macbook Pro.
I'd like to upgrade the Mac Pro with a wicked graphics card so I can game using bootcamp, and use my iMac for work and OS stuff and be able to switch between the two only using a single screen.
I know that my iMac is the model that has the target display mode, but I'm worried that this card (Radeon HD 5770) won't be compatible with target display mode.
Can anyone confirm or clarify this for me? Or suggest a card that does work?
Thanks!

Greetings,
I have a 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 Tower with the ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro. Currently I'm running two full HD monitors off this one card and have not had a problem.
I don't have an iMac so I can't test it out for you, but from what I've gleaned from the net, it should not be a problem.
Do a Google search for "Target Display Mode". Find the link for an article on this subject by Tom Nelson.
Indications are that all is needed for your iMac to work in Target Display Mode is a video signal at your Thunderbolt port or DisplayPort, or you can select Target Display Mode manually by using Command F2.
The ATI Radeon HD 5770 card is equipped with 2 DisplayPorts and 1 DVI port.
All you need is the proper cable. Apple now sell a shorter 50cm version.
Regardless, the ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit is a good buy and is compatible with all the latest and greatest software.
Cheers
