Yes...you can go into the settings for the AirPort Express and tell it how you want it to be used. You select 'Extend' and it's all setup. I just did it this weekend and it took all of 5 minutes from the time I opened the box.

  • Yes. It can work as a repeater, or as just another node in the wireless network. This setting is very easy to set/change.

  • Yes, and you do not need to have an Airport Express base station to use the 'Repeater' feature.

It works perfectly with my D-Link.

  • FWIW, I found another solution ... I have a DLink wireless router in my basement. It can't be moved from that location (long story). Up on the 2nd floor of my house, the wireless signal was very weak.

I looked into buying an AirPort Express Base Station to act as a repeater and give me a better signal upstairs.

Then I discovered - by trolling the Apple Discussion groups - that I could use a Mac, running Snow Leopard, to create a network upstairs (the option is under the AirPort menu item) that extends the wireless function. Now my iPod Touch gets a beautiful signal upstairs from one of my Macs that runs there! Voila - no need for a repeater!

  • The AirPort Express can wirelessly extend the wireless network only if that wireless network is provided by another AirPort Express, an AirPort Extreme base station, or a Time Capsule.
