Based on one of the reviews, is there a way to load this software without it erasing my current instrument library?

Not knowing the specifics of how the problem went for the reviewer, I can confidently say that it won't erase your current instrument library! I've installed all the jam packs separately on 2 different computers with no trouble. Seems to be an isolated issue, don't let that stop you from these great products!
