I had thought that the lightning was 3.0 but it's clearly 2.0!

The cable is stated to be USB 2.0, BUT it will work in a USB 3.0 port. Phone charges and will synch as normal. I have personally noticed a difference in synching speed from a USB 2.0 to 3.0 port. Though user experience will vary.

The description of the cable itself answers this question. It is still just USB 2.

Based on the way they are branding it simply as USB, it is more than likely just a USB 2.0 connection and not a USB 3.0 cable.
