Klipsch Image S4i Earphones with Microphone
great sound for a great price
Written by KM from Philadelphia

My bose in ear headphones finally wore out after three years of heavy use. I was looking for comparable sound quality for a reasonable price as well as a microphone for answering calls. I attempted to try the upgraded Apple earphones but they were lacking in sound quality, so I purchased these instead. The difference is huge!
The headphones have good bass and a pleasantly balanced sound. There is no distortion at full volume on my iphone 3GS and the remote control offers voice control and full music control. The earbud covers are comfortable and block out noise effectively. They also fit quite snugly in my ear and are light so they don't fall out even when moving around. When listening to hip hop or electronic music the low end sounds good but it doesn't overpower the other tones. The mic sounds good but works best when you hold it a little closer to your mouth.
These sound better than my old bose in ear headphones at a cheaper price, I definitely recommend them. …More84 of 95 people found this useful

umm, yea . . . wow!!

In makeing this purchase, i went from the apple earbuds, to the v-moda vibe II earbuds and finally i landed on these after finding them on cnet, so i would like to think i have a little experience with the competition.
the apple earbuds seemed alright but the sound quality didnt seem to match the price point for me. The mids and highs were clear but the bass was on the lighter side for my taste. also the silicone coverings would sometimes slide in my ear. the v-modas had way too much base, were heavy in my ear due to the metal construction and the cord made tons of noise when i would move around. Definatly not for me!!
in trying to describe these, i can find nothing to say other than they are sublime! light weight construction, simple attractive design, and the sound quality is in a word, perfect. nice sharp highs, clean clear mids, powerful yet not overwelming bass. i even love how easy it is to tell the difference between left and right ears!! the answer is simple . . . BUY THESE HEADPHONES!!!!! you definatly wont find better anywhere near this price point! …More66 of 75 people found this useful

I searched everywhere for these, but finally found them in an Apple retail store. The Klipsch Image S4i are AMAZING...the sound, earbud seal and 3 button remote work flawlessly. If your looking at the Apple premium earbuds spend the extra $20, you'll be glad that you did. …More

Wow...what a surprise
Written by FS from Ashland

Recently, I had the opportunity to try both the Shure SE115m+ and the KIlpsch S4i. I have owned Shure products in the past and have always enjoyed them, so I was expecting to be equally thrilled with the new product for my iPhone. To my amazement, the Klipsch won the contest hands down. The Klipsch sounds were much cleaner and crisper, and the earbuds more comfortable. For me, it was the equivalent of going to a concert and leaving the hall and running to the rest room. The Shures sounded flat and a bit muddy. But put the Klipsch in, and it was like stepping into the room where the concert is being held. My only gripe on the Klipsch is perhaps a bit too much bass. …More

Klipsch Image S4i Earphones with Microphone
I don't know how anyone could give this a 5 star rating
Written by NT from Singapore

Naturally, anyone who upgrades from the stock earphones might feel blown away with these, however, if you are someone who appreciates the finer things in life, stay away from these.
The "piano black finish with chrome accents" is hardly beautiful at all, other than the gold tip, everything upwards right up to the ear buds look and feel cheap.
You will definitely have to hold the mic up to your mouth so the person at the end of the line could hear you. My Apple In-Ear Headphones fared better in this aspect.
The wires also tangle easily, unlike the Apple In-Ear Headphones, which kind of has a tendency to untangle itself.
Sound-wise, if you are looking for something that is crystal clear, where details can be heard, where you can distinguish the various musical instruments, and feel as if the vocalist is singing right in front of you, has deep bass but not overly powerful, this is not it.
I do not know how to describe in terms of midtones, overtones, lows or highs, but I know what good sound is.
I have downloaded some looping sounds to break these in, no luck.
You know how the diaphragm in the earphones sound like they are breaking apart when trying to produce certain sounds, I am not sure if this is what you call distortion, but I have so far discovered a few songs in my library that causes this. They are encoded at 256kbps and above.
1. I Want to Know What Love Is (Mariah Carey)
2. Vanilla Twilight (Owl City).
One tip though, do not test this pair of earphone on a Dell notebook, my girlfriend has a company one and the same songs sounded much worse. I am testing this on my iPhone 3GS and Early 2009 iMac.
I was going to give this a 2 Star rating, but seeing how the Overview section shamelessly markets this product as a premium set, I am giving only 1 Star.
I do not know before what kind of company Klipsch is or what their philosophy is, but I do know now if anyone is looking for good sound, look somewhere else. …More9 of 29 people found this useful

Due to the fact that the mic of the Klipsch Image S4i Earphones is located below the chin, does it capture the sound in an effective way?

Best Answer
A review at Gizmodo on August 16, 2009, stated: "Mic quality is fine, too. The Image S4i's mic sits below your chin, nestled inside the inline controls. It's a natural location, and the headset's buttons, which include volume controls, were easy to find and press, though the whole unit is a little slippery for sweaty exercise fingers. The mic, or its location, probably, gave my voice a boomier sound than I got from the Vibes or the Etymotics, though I remained completely intelligible, and background noises, like the mic bouncing off my shirt, or even a rickety old air conditioner, were very hard to notice on the other end of the line. As a bonus, these headsets work in the headphone jack on Unibody MacBooks, for VoIP use."
