Belkin 7-Port Desktop USB Hub
Great product, great design!
Written by JK from Scarborough

When I made the switch from my old Power Mac to a new Mac mini last month, perhaps the only thing I miss from my Power Mac was the front-facing USB port. Although I do own a 20" Cinema Display with the built-in USB hub, it is very inconvenient reaching blindly behind the screen to plug in peripherals like USB keys or my iPod.
I needed a solution!
As I was looking through numerous USB hubs, 2 things caught my eye about this particular model. Firstly, it's beautiful, simple design and lack of tacky LED lights. Second, it's high price-point.
This is a beautifully crafted device put together by one of the best peripheral manufacturers out there, Belkin. The 2 front-facing USB ports are extremely convenient and there are another 5 on the back for future expansion. The unit includes a power supply, however, it can run without it as well when low-power devices are connected (mice, keyboard, etc.). All in all, this is an amazing product and is a great accessory for anyone who just bought themselves a Mac mini and would like a couple front facing USB ports. As the other reviewer said, don't bother with the 4-port version. It's only $10 cheaper and you only get one front-facing port as opposed to 2.
The only reason why I'm rating it 4 stars as opposed to 5 is because it's about twice the price of most other USB hubs out there. It is, however, the case with this product that you get what you pay for! …More78 of 79 people found this useful

Belkin 7-Port Desktop USB Hub
Very nice, sleek design, good power supply
Written by BT from Long Valley

Needed a few more ports so I started looking for a 7 port USB2 hub. The design of this new (2009) design from Belkin I found visually appealing; no translucent plastic to see the guts, no flashing LEDs, no wild colors, small size, vertically oriented sockets for a minimal footprint, two easy to get to sockets on the front for thumb drives and temporary connections.
Plus, the power supply is a narrow, modern design rated for 3.5 - 3.8 A at 5 Volts, so plenty of power even if all 7 ports were drawing the rated 500ma each (in theory, YMMV). I am currently using the 5 rear ports to connect iPod dock, a scanner, 2 external drives, keyboard and the power supply is cool to the touch.
I mounted the hub under a 2" high bridge I fabricated which supports my (closed) 15" MBP under a Cinema display and serves as a "garage" for my external drives, so all the cables are obscured and the two front ports easy to access.
Highly recommended, but one star off for price. Price will likely come down as the hub becomes available in more channels. I wouldn't waste my time with the 4 port version. …More96 of 99 people found this useful
