Sid Meier's Pirates!
An Old Salt says ARRRR Mateys

I am 70 years old. I have a play station2, a nintendo 64, and a Wii system all with 8 or 10 games each. So where do I spend all my game time? On my iMac with Sid Meyer's "Pirates." I am addicted to it. No glitches. Great graphics. Great fun. Lots to do. Battle all kinds of ships. Keep them. Blow them up. Sell them. Take all their cargo. One of the ports, say Havana or Tortuga, won't trade with you because you're s scurvy pirate, then raid his town, name your own governor and trade all you want. You must find and rescue family members, find buried treasures, lost cities, and much, much more. Get other pirates and/or indians to raid towns before you get there just to make your job a little easier. Bring immigrants and/or missionaries in to help a town prosper.Keep your crew fed and happy. Buy it, NOW! …More

Sid Meier's Pirates!
Plunder Away! (It's a Great Game)
Written by MN

When I first played Sid Meier's Pirates! 4 Years Ago At my friends house, and immediately thought "I wish this was for mac" Well It's 4 years later and Pirates! Is Back To Plunder Mac's Everywhere, and i must say a 4 year wait for a port is bearable enough for either a really good game or a really tolerant fan-base. Luckily Pirates! is a really good game, and doesn't sink fans hopes. It delivers exactly what the PC version did only now on Macs. For all who haven't played the PC version this game is about a young boy who's family falls into debt. The local tax collector (The Marquis) crashes a free-of-debt party thrown by the family and tosses everyone to each corner of the Pirates! map. (You'll understand that phrase in a minute.) Only our young pirate escapes and swears vengeance. 10 Years later (Our pirate-to-be is now 20) Signs up with 1 of 4 nations and starts plundering away. During the never ending game play you can sink ships, engage in sea battles, sword fights, attack ports, dance with the governors daughter, sneak into enemy ports, upgrade your ship and, (gasp!) much more. The game is part sandbox, Part campaign so you can also go on quest to find more gold or free your family who have been suspiciously flung to every point on the map for recovery except where you are. So expect a lot of sailing (don't worry it isn't that monotonous). So thats my review. A truly great game for the price(and by the way i've only scratched the surface on game play so I highly recommend this EXCELLENT Pirate Game. Plunder Away Lads! …More

If you loved the original...

This is it with some good enhancements and great graphics updates. I lost hours to this game when I was younger and now I have lost hours to it with my Mac. A welcome addition IMHO. It has a simple learning curve and is a great deal of fun. If you are looking for ship handling realism and complex gaming systems this isn't for you. Thank you for bringing this to the Mac, and thank you Sid for updating one of my favorite games from my youth.
My one complaint with it: I can't remap the keys so you have to deal with the placement. It is awkward at times. …More77 of 93 people found this useful

This is a very addicting game, but too bad that it is entirely too easy and can be beat in only a few days. Perfect for the average gamer who likes to play every now and again but not for someone who takes their games seriously. …More

All of the good that I remembered and so much more

Okay, I can't speak to what the 'younger crowd' are playing these days. I'm in my ... ahem ... mid 40's and I played one of the original PC versions of this game (a while back).
That game got it all right.
This new version keeps all of that good stuff and upgrades everything I hoped for in the 21st century ... the graphics, sound, and ease of use are all up to date (nearly). It does take over the entire screen, and I can't multitask; but when I'm playing, I don't really want to. …More26 of 31 people found this useful
