BIG PROBLEM: they do not connect to your Iphone 5 if you have a case. (I have the speck case). Since EVERYONE has a case, I am confused as to why Apple would make this product, or not even warn you that it does not plug in when a case is on your phone. The cord adaptor is a bit more expensive, but at least you won't ruin your case by having to continually put it on and off to use the adaptor.

I have an Apple-like bumper cover (similar to iPhone 4/4S) and the metal contact on the adapter is WAY TOO short. I suggest getting the Lighting to 30-pin Adapter Cable instead. The cable has a thin longer Lightning connection that will work with most iPhone 5 covers.

Contrary to the reviews I've seen, I have had no problem using this while having a cover on my iPhone 5. I use this adapter specif Contrary to the reviews I've seen, I have had no problem using this while having a cover on my iPhone 5. I use this adapter specifically so I may keep using my car XM Skydock (love it) with my iPhone 5 that I alternately use both an Elago Slim-Fit Case and Incase Span Case on. I have no problem whatsoever with the adapter fitting snugly.

My only criticism is that I wish the adapter was a bit shorter.

Like 250+ people, I have found this to not fit into my phone if it has a case on it. I have an Otterbox, a slim-fit Luvvitt, and Like 250+ people, I have found this to not fit into my phone if it has a case on it. I have an Otterbox, a slim-fit Luvvitt, and a rubber Kate Spade case, the lightning connector will not fit into any of them (the Otterbox and Luvvitt being the worst fit). For the record, though the width of the pin is 1/4", the width of the case is 1", so any case that has an adaptor opening of less than 1" will prevent the lightning pin from securely fitting into your phone.

If you don't mind taking the cover off your phone every time you need to connect it, then this isn't a big deal - I don't like to do that, so I'm going to return this.

What's wrong: If you have a case for your iDevice, it most likely won't fit unless the case is super thin.
Adapter or lightning c What's wrong: If you have a case for your iDevice, it most likely won't fit unless the case is super thin.
Adapter or lightning cable: The price for the adaptor is $29. The price for a lightning cable (1m) is only $19. But you may also need an extra USB power adapter which costs also $19. So why get this adaptor? It only makes sense if you cannot or do not want to switch cables and access the power adaptor (since it may be hidden behind your desk) all the time. I'd rather suggest to get an extra lightning cable and invest in an additional power adaptor (total $38). It's worth the extra $9. You will be much happier!
If the lightning bit were sticking out just a little bit more, it would not be a problem with the cases at all. Not really a practical design.

Both my car (brand new 2014 VW Passat) and my speakers have the 30 pin connector, both of which not only playedmy iPhone 4S but charged it too. I bought the adapter so I could connect my new iPhone 6 into both of these devices. As soon as I plugged it in (once I took my phone out of the case because the lightning end is too short), I got the following error message, "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone." No only does it not work unreliably, it doesn't work at all!!!. I spent $35 for each one (bought 2) and the guy at the Apple store obviously didn't know they wouldn't work because I told him exactly why I was purchasing them and he said it was a great idea. I will be taking them back. Come on Apple, don't just upgrade your computers and phones, upgrade the devices you sell to use with them that have your brand name attached to them!!
