Overview
This VESA Mount Adapter Kit allows your 24-inch iMac computer or 24-inch LED Cinema Display to be used with a variety of alternate mounting solutions such as wall mounts and zero footprint articulating arms based on the VESA flat panel mounting interface (FPMI).
With a tool in this kit, you can remove the iMac or display stand and attach the VESA Mount Adapter. Then connect any VESA-compliant mounting solution with a 100mm x 100mm attachment.
With the VESA Mount Adapter attached, the 24-inch iMac and 24-inch LED Cinema Display complies with the VESA MIS-D, 100, C version specification.
Compatibility
Works with the following models:
- 24-inch iMac with 2.4GHz, 2.66GHz, 2.8GHz, 2.93GHz, or 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme
- 24-inch LED Cinema Display.
Note: Wall mount or articulating arm not included.

Does the job, but a PAIN to install

I have installed many many vesa mounts - this is by far the most annoying to install. Normally it takes a good 5 minutes to unscrew the mount, and pop the mount on. This took 8 screws, a release, and a very time consuming dual bolt that you must perfectly align (and I mean perfectly) to get the final bolts to thread. I was surprised, but it appears this is because the metal is so specifically engineered, aligning the dual bolts is a serious luck of the draw. Total install time, a shocking 45 minutes. How annoying.

To attached the left and right bolts, be sure to turn the center fastener/screw down tight. Otherwise it will not line up.
Apple should indicate that it does not line up in the instruction sheet until the middle fastener is tightened down. Then tighten/loosen so it's just right, so u can tighten the left and right bolts. Takes a little of finesse to get both bolts in, but with patience, you can do it easily.

Works but a pain to install

I used this to wall mount the new 24" LED cinema display. The hassle of installing this on the display is really the mechanism used to hold the arm in the display itself. It was locked (so I believed) and while preparing to remove the last of 8 screws from the display the arm snapped back into the display body. In the end, I had to figure out how to disassemble the display to get it out (which I did using the same tool used to open iPods... the front screen is held in place by heavy pin magnets).
Eventually, I was able to remove and properly lock the mounting bracket (inside the display), remount it (yes, had to unscrew it in order to make the adjustment since the tension of the bracket is tight), and attach this VESA wall mount.
In the end, I have an awesome looking, streamlined, graphic design setup with the new macbook! Just a big pain in the backside to accomplish. …More38 of 42 people found this useful

I used this adaptor to mount two generations of iMac, so I've gone through the entire process twice now. Honestly, it wasn't fun (tedious & risky), but in the end it was worth it. From what I learned, I strongly recommend AGAINST using the included Allen wrenches; you'll get far better leverage & control using your own full-sized tools. Seriously, it's worth a trip to the hardware store to buy the correct tools, because using the included wrenches (which are small) you risk STRIPPING the screws that are vital to securely attaching the adapter. …More

If I had only known how painful installing this VESA mount was I would have saved not only 3 hours but my damaged fingers. Most of the comments here are correct -- the entire process is poorly designed, and does not fit with the rest of Apple's incredible accomplishments. I can kind of see how this happened; the design got relegated to a brilliant engineer who wanted to impress his boss. The concept is not terrible, but the execution of the tolerances is too demanding, and the tools provided are erector set quality. I really hate to say that.
The tips you read about needing to line up the two holes in the side where the large screws go as precisely as possible is correct. I got one of the screws to go in like butter but the other was just a nightmare. Here is my advice. The bracket can be rotated so that it moves a tiny amount around the middle. Think of the bracket as the hands of a clock and you can move it CC and CCW a tiny bit.
