- PC with 802.11a/b/g/n
For shared printing:

For iTunes music streaming:
- Stereo or powered speakers
- Audio cable
- iTunes 4.6 or later
- (1) The AirPort Express Base Station is based on an IEEE 802.11n draft specification and is compatible with IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, and IEEE 802.11g.
- (2) Based on a comparison with Apple's 802.11g products. Comparison assumes AirPort Express network with 802.11n-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires an AirPort- or AirPort Extreme-enabled computer or other Wi-Fi Certified 802.11a/b/g-enabled computer. Actual performance will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.
- (3) Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point, and Internet access (fees may apply). Some ISPs are not currently compatible with AirPort Express.

WOW! i just bought my airport express hotness at the apple store in cincinnati (best apple store in the world! - JD in the back is the MAN!). i hooked it up to my existing airport extreme network, and it was set up and connected in about 37 seconds. this thing rocks! i have my samsung laser printer hooked up to and my bose computer speakers connected in my room, and this thing works like a charm! go get one - you can use it as a charger for your iPod or iPhone too! the fact that they didn't raise the price makes it an even better deal. this thing is genius... …More

I bought 2 of these. What a waste of money. Streaming music rarely works. massive software conflicts between itunes and the airports. If you buy this to stream music get use to hearing silence and reading error message 15000. Every new software version brings new conflicts. Apple support and the folks at the apple store can't help you, they just waste your time. (nice people but they don't know how to fix the problem). But they have all been asked about it before. Not working is the norm.

The Airport Express overpriced and promises much more than it delivers.
I bought four of these items in order to extend wireless coverage throughout my property. To my dismay, I discovered that the units frequently, for no discoverable reason, loses wi-fi connectivity with any adjacent unit. This is a minor annoyance when it happens once. When it happens on a consistent basis, it becomes a major deficiency in the network.
Then the coup-de-grace. The first Express unit I purchased lasted just long enough to outlive the warranty period. Now if I want to continue the aggravation of an unreliable network I have to shell out another $100.
I have been an Apple user since the early '80. I have stuck with Apple through thick and thin. My experiences with the Airport Extreme and the Airport Express just make that more and more difficult.
Save yourself some money and a lot of aggravation. If you want an extended wireless network, find some solution that does not include any Apple Airport Express Base Stations. …More13 of 26 people found this useful

Yes, but only if the airport express is extending an existing airport network. In other words, if you already have an airport extreme, time capsule, or another airport express it is possible to do this. It's just, however, not the easiest or most reliable option in my opinion. …More

Yes, as long as you know the credentials for joining a device to your current wireless network. You would setup the Airport Express to "Join Your Wireless Network" like a computer or laptop. You can then connect your printer to the USB port on the Airport Express making it available to any computers on the same network. (NOTE: the USB port on the Airport Express is not "hot-swappable" which means you should connect the printer first and then power on the Airport Express)
The only issues that can occur include the security on your current wireless network not allowing the Airport Express to join it correctly if at all. I recommend using WPA-PSK security with a password of 8 or more characters (required). Wireless networks that are set to use a 10-character or 5 character passwords are most-likely using the older WEP security which doesn't always work well with the newer hardware in the Airport products.
