    Cycle your Battery

    If you follow the instuctions in the manual, and cycle your battery once a week. You can get about 4 to 5 hrs of battery life out of your mac book pro. i tried cycleing the battery and it really works and restores the batteries life. But the key is you have to do it once a week. …More

    Battery gets very, very hot, in my opinion, but great battery life so far

    I think the battery life is pretty good on the MacBook Pro. I was on a three-hour flight the other day and my Mac battery died right before landing. Other PC users around me had to shut down because of battery issues 45 minutes before. After the flight, I actually had one business person ask me what kind of computer I have and questions about the battery b/c he couldn't believe it lasted so long.
    However, in my opinion, this battery gets extremely hot and more so than any PC that I have worked on or the PowerBook I had until I upgraded to this one. So, be sure to wear pants or use a pillow if you're going to use your laptop in your lap!
    The design is great for the MacBook Pro and so is the battery, I just wish they would've used a larger fan in the MacBook so it would keep this thing cool. I think it's more a flaw of the computer design and less of the battery, though.     …More

    Battery Issues Macbook Pro Internal Mounted non user replaceable

    Great product - lost a 2 stars due to battery only.

    I have three issues with users being responsible to use their batteries. I am pretty mad as to how it is working now. I have changed my usage patterns recently only to discover that my Macbook Pro is pretty much useless as a traveling system. Originally I travelled with it frequently - but for about 9 months it has been used as a 'workstation', recently that changed again and now I am trying to be portable with it- and have had a nasty shock - down to less than an hour usage just doing typing.

    1. If there are issues with batteries decaying why are they now 'built in'. Terrible design discussion to make them look nice but not at all functional - unless the design was/is bulletproof.

    2. Why does the hardware/system not automatically discharge the batteries periodically if it has ben tethered in to maintain a proper working battery- this could easily be a system setting that happens overnight etc. with a suspend feature so that it does not happen in inconvenient times. It is inconceivable that Apple does not have this in the system - it is like having a card that does not bother to have an oil warning light for the engine or maybe more appropriate a gas gauge.

    3. Huge warning labels on the packaging about this issue. I did not realize it to be a problem as I had replace a macbook that this did not seem to be an issue with (and one that at least I could get a battery replaced easily). I just opened it up and got using it - just like in the ads. My fault I suppose for not fully ready about the battery.

    To calibrate the battery:

    Plug in the MagSafe power adapter and fully charge the MacBook or MacBook Pro battery until the light on the MagSafe connector changes to green and the Battery icon in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged.

    Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for two hours or longer. You may use your computer during this time as long as the power adapter is plugged in.

    Disconnect the power adapter with the computer on and start using it with battery power. When the battery’s charge gets low, you’ll see the low battery warning dialog on the screen.

    Continue to keep your computer turned on until it goes to sleep. Save your work and close all applications when the battery’s charge gets low and before the computer goes to sleep.

    Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or longer.

    Reconnect thepower adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged. You may use your computer during this time.     …More

    Yes. I ordered one of these for my 2006 MacBook Pro 2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo, and the one that came is exactly the same part (Model Number A1189, 10.8v, 68Wh) as the original battery that came with my MacBook Pro.

    I believe this part is used for all 17-inch MacBook Pros, but if you want peace of mind before ordering, simply check the model details printed on the battery in your MacBook; if it says 'Model Number A1189' (as mentioned above), then it's definitely the same battery as the one advertised here.     …More

    There is no simple answer to your question, unfortunately. Lithium batteries have a naturally decaying capacity, as the battery forms deposits in the reactants that decrease battery capacity and longevity. A number of things will accelerate this, and keeping the battery at full charge is one of those things, so you should use your battery. At the same time, lithium batteries do not handle "deep discharge" or high current draw as well as other chemistries—like NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) or NiCad (nickel-cadmium)—and as a result it is a good idea to be connected to AC power when asking the computer to do anything power intensive.

    It's worth reading Apple's recommendations for caring for laptop batteries (go to Apple.com and add /batteries/notebooks.html to the URL or search for it, as I am unable to post a link). In short: Ideally you'll use the battery part of the time and AC power part of the time. If you leave it plugged-in for long periods of time, you should cycle the battery once a month. And if you're storing the battery for 6 months or more, you should store it at about 50% state of charge.
