    About Thunderbolt 2

Thunderbolt is a revolutionary I/O technology that supports high-resolution displays and high-performance data devices via one simple port and a cable that carries both DisplayPort and PCI Express data. And it’s standard on every Mac.

PCI Express is the technology that links all the high-performance components in a Mac. And it’s built into Thunderbolt, which means you can get PCI Express speed outside the box.

With Thunderbolt 2 now built into the new Mac Pro and MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can connect up to three 4K displays at once. Thunderbolt 2 gives you up to 20 Gbps in both directions, allowing for super-fast data transfer between peripherals. You also have enough bandwidth to daisy-chain multiple high-speed devices without using a hub or switch.

Thunderbolt also provides double the power of USB 3.0, delivering 10 watts to peripherals for improved performance on the go.

My only complaint would be the thunderbolt cables included were way too short. Also, now they are no longer available in the Apple Store in the diskless form and the others are a total rip-off due to hyper-inflated drive prices. BRING THESE ENCLOSURES BACK DISKLESS, APPLE!!

  • Great match with the new Mac Pro

It did a lot of research and soul searching before diving in with this device. It's a great match with a new Mac Pro. The Thunderb It did a lot of research and soul searching before diving in with this device. It's a great match with a new Mac Pro. The Thunderbolt 2 interface between the two devices is seamless. The Pegasus is configured at the factory for RAID 5, which is what I intended, so I really didn't have to do any configuration on it, except change the default device name for my own purposes. It took about 4 hours to do the initial RAID 5 sync and the system is still available for use during that time. I delayed heavy data transfer from old devices until the sync finished because using the system slows down the syncing process. After plugging in, the Pegasus does need to be attached to the Mac via the Thunderbolt 2 cable (included with the Pegasus). The Pegasus doesn't really come alive until it's attached to the Mac. The configuration utility (downloadable) has gobs of configurables and readouts. Once running, it's very fast. I'm using it for video rendering and this device certainly is not a bottleneck. I'm a happy camper so far!
