there's a bit of a lip around the edges to help protect the screen. it's no otterbox for sure, but if you're looking for a very slim case (that acts like bumper) then i'd say go for it. i've had this case for over a month and i've dropped my iphone several times and never had anything happen to my phone - the back of the case, since it's transparent, has a few scratches but that's about it. highly recommend! …More

I had that concern too. I've been using the C6 case (not available through apple store for some reason) and that's been great - good protection, nice feel and no scratches on the black iPhone 5. Lots of cool colours too. …More

I Don't Love This Case

I don't love it ... and I don't hate it. But for the price I paid, I expected it to be a little better. Overall, the design is sleek and fits pretty well. The texture of the case is a matte-finished, somewhat-soft plastic with extra texture along the sides for a good grip. In black, it complements the black iPhone 5 well, even though it obscures the back of the phone and logo. But what bothers me is an odd lip that runs the width of the phone on the top side. This lip, which doesn't appear on the bottom of the phone, makes accessing the power switch awkward and seems like a design mistake. I suppose it's there to reinforce the top of the case which would otherwise be weakened by the large camera cutout, but I don't like it. I considered cutting off the lip but am afraid it would weaken the case too much. This lip doesn't appear on Incase's Snap Case for the iPhone 4/4S -- just on the case for the iPhone 5. …More

Case too thin at top by hole for camera

Great all around case!

I bought this case along with my white iPhone 5 and so far so good.

Overall, this product has a simple design that compliments the iPhone 5 while providing some light protection. The sides of the case are coated in a matte "rubber like" plastic to enhance grip, but also act as a bumper. If you push or squeeze the sides there is some give which helps absorb a light impact.

The volume buttons are covered which help protect them and the silencer switch is deeply recessed for protection. The raised lip along the front of the phone protects the screen and allows you to lay your iPhone face down without worry.

The back of the case has a nice large camera cut out to reduce image haze. On my version (the black) the back of the case is slightly translucent and even a bit transparent making the Apple logo visible in almost any light. I also appreciate the fact that InCase has placed their logo along the side. It's simple and doesn't take away from Apple's design.

Others have brought up the top lip which does recess the sleep/wake button slightly, but it's a design decision to protect the button. It's there for a reason.

I don't really have any complaints. It's a great case for daily use and traveling without a doubt. I'd like the volume buttons to be visible, but I appreciate the thoughtful design which protects them. It's not a negative. I try to appreciate each design for what it brings to the table and InCase did a great job of finding that middle ground between sleek and functional.

The great strength of this case is the amount of grip you have with it. I've had the case on for about a month and it's never slipped out of my hands. I hope that it will be durable for at least a year and I believe that it will. Realistically, we use our devices more and more these days and nothing will last forever. If it lasts a year at $29.95 and I replace it annually I consider it a win. It's protecting the one thing that I use most during my day.

LOVE the Case. One flaw.

I really like this case. It's very slim. It fits perfect. All in all, it provides a reasonable level of protection from scratches and minor drops. I've dropped my phone getting out of the car a few times, and the case has done its job. Meanwhile, I still get to enjoy the slim feel of my iPhone 5. No, it's no Otterbox. If you need that kind of protection, then this isn't the case for you. I think this case is the PERFECT compliment to a SquareTrade warranty.

There are other slim cases, but the Incase Snap Case is unique in that when the phone is inserted properly, the edge (or lip) of the case extends above the front glass by a little less than a millimeter. Due to this lip, I can place my iPhone face down (for privacy) on a surface, and not worry about my screen actually touching the surface. This is a huge plus in my opinion.... and it's been very hard to find in a slim case.

The case has one flaw. I too have experienced the finish of my case flaking off. It began happening on my iPhone 4 after about a year. Let me be the first to say, that's lame, and Incase should do something to remedy that. Maybe they already have. I have not experienced it on my case for my iPhone 5. …More

"ruberized" incase peels

I have a similar incase case- the "slider"- material looks the same- just got back from vacation and after a week of hot weather, despite phone being kept in my pocket or backpack, the "rubberized" material that coats the hard plastic bubbled and began peeling, ruining the case.
