Product Information

  • Overview

NeatDesk for Mac is the high-speed desktop scanner and digital filing system that will quickly turn all the paper on your desk into organized, digital files. More than just a great scanner, NeatDesk also includes patented NeatWorks for Mac software to identify and extract key information from your paper files, then automatically organize it in the easy-to-use database.

    Lightning-fast scanning

The award-winning ADF (automatic document feeder) scanner provides a central "inbox" for all the paper that normally clutters your workspace. Its unique paper input tray allows you to insert up to 10 receipts, 10 business cards and 10 full-size documents, and scan them all in a single batch. Or remove the tray to scan up to 50 letter-size pages at once. You can even perform double-sided scanning in a single pass.

    NeatWorks for Mac software

Once your paper is digitized, NeatWorks for Mac uses "Intelligent Text Recognition" technology to extract key data from your documents and populate key fields automatically in this robust digital filing system.

    Capture and retrieve details quickly

NeatWorks software uses OCR and patented parsing technology to identify and save key information. On receipts, it looks for the date, vendor, amount and sales tax. On business cards, it collects all of the contact information. And on documents, it saves the printed text in searchable PDF format.

Ratings & Reviews

  • Don't bother with this one

I was really looking forward to this product, and then I got it...

The software is way behind the windows version, one side of the duplex scanning is 50% quality of the other, post-processing of the image is not acceptable (grainy, no anti-aliasing), and the software is deadly slow.

  • Absolutely Terrible...

    1.0 out of 5 stars

This is a terrible product regarding hardware and also a horrible piece of accompanying software. The scanner had to be replaced u nder warranty in less than 6 months because it inexplicably snatched up to 25 pages of paper at a time when scanning. The software constantly crashes for no explicable reason. This same thing has happened though several revisions of their software. Their only offered solution is to create new libraries and start over! This is of course entirely unacceptable because they never update the software to correct the problem.

Product support never responds appropriately and never explains why the software crashes. Moreover, the company has now discontinued phone support completely and the only way to communicate with them is through e-mail that is also terrible as far as quick, responsive problem resolution.

Do not buy this scanner or software if you expect good customer service, reliability or functionality.

I thought this would finally take me to a paperless office. Big mistake.
If you have all day to scan and organize your papers go ahead, buy it. I don t have time to waste.

Got a Kodak scanner to handle my papers now.

  • Mac version does not support Quickbooks export

    1.0 out of 5 stars

Mac version does not support Quickbooks export. So while the software might be nice and create pretty reports, if it doesn't expor t into Quickbooks then I'll just use a regular scanner.

  • Neat Concept - Poor Execution

Using this in the UK, received it yesterday.
The scanner works quite well, but the scanner guide is poor, on large documents wit h multiple pages, if one additional page fails it rejects the whole scan.
The Neat software hangs regularly and you have to turn the scanner off and restart the software. On the 200 documents I've scanned with about 2 - 3 hours of work, I've had to 'Force Quit' the software around 5 times.
The metadata that it reads from the document doesn't seem to populate the fields well, I have to type in lots of additional data about the document, its a pity it doesn't do this for you. , The tool is configured for the US market, it hasn't read a date properly for the UK yet, I've tried using the preferences to change the date format. Will have to keep experimenting. I like the search capability so the OCR seems pretty capable.

  • Does what I needed

I was very apprehensive about purchasing the product but I did it anyway. The software and scanner were easily setup in a matter o f minutes. Started scanning immediately. My receipts were pretty battered but as long as the leading edge was fairly straight I had no problems. I've scanned hundreds of receipts to date without issue. The software does a pretty good job at reading the various documents. Reliability seems to vary with the condition of the receipt. I will not be using the cloud because it's too expensive for what I need. Backups were a concern but there appears to be no issue as long as the scanning software is closed BEFORE you make a copy of the library for storage on my NAS for safekeeping.
