connects nicely to my iPad mini

    • Written by from BEAVER FALLS

I have not used this for very long but so far it connects well to my iPad mini. It recognizes both my 32GB and 64GB SD cards which I used on my Canon ELPH. I was worried when I read some of the reviews but I plug it in with the card inserted and my iPad recognizes it and opens my photo albums.

    So disappointing

    • Written by from Sydeny

Like so many others I purchased the adapter to download my photos to my iPad, which work OK though it is quite slow especially with large files. As for comparability again like so many I have several Apple devices and the iPhone is the one thing which is used mostly for taking photos but there is no way this adapter has any kind of functionality not even upload. Could have been a really great product but lack of functionality make a very ordinary product and expensive for what it does, such a shame.

    SD Reader Does Not Work

    • Written by from Beauly

I have an almost new iPad Air 2 and recently bought the Apple Lightning to SD card reader. I have tried several SD cards, none larger than 8Gb capacity and one new one with one low resolution photo on it. Nothing. One card with old photos did work, but when I deleted the photos on my PC and loaded ones I wanted to put on my iPad - nothing. The £25 charged for this lead is a rip-off even if it did work, but so many people have had the same experience.. Something is rotten in my Apple.

    Works great!

    • Written by from Etiwanda

I was going to Europe for a month and did not want to lug around my MBPr 15" so I purchased the Lightning to SD Card for my iPad Air 2. Just make sure you have enough space on your iPad for the pics and vids unless of course you use Dropbox or something similar. My only gripe would be that I wished it would work with the iPhones. That is why I only give it 4 out of 5 stars. Apple, please make compatible with the iPhones!

2 weeks ago I would've written a rave review. Plug the Lightning reader in, insert SD card, import into iPhoto and ta-dah there's my photos!
Last nite I had my iPad mini plugged into my MacBook. Didn't upgrade anything & now when I try the card reader get the "This accessory is not supported by this iPad". What the heck?!?! It was just working the day before!

    Not as good as marketed

    • Written by from Vantaa

Not working with iPhone. Not possible to upload photos from iPad to SD card, only import from SD card. Import been working so far pretty well, a bit slow in case of big file size. It is simply crazy that there is no upload option as I want to transfer some iCloud/iPad/iPhone photos to SIM card when I can't access to the network and device memory is getting full. Shame on you Apple!

Lightening camera connector doesn't work with Mini iPad

    • Written by from Spilsby

I have an iPad mini currently on version 7.03 & I bought the lightening camera card connector in Feb 2015 to take on holiday. It does not work. When I plug in the lightening connector my iPad doesn't respond at all. Maybe I'm missing something?

    Doesn't work with IPhone 6 - "USELESS"

    • Written by from Liverpool

Bought this card reader from Apple store while buying ipad 4th generation retina display and it works as described. But when tried this on my new iPhone 6 it doesn't work.

Though the slots for both iPad and iPhone are same why this option is disabled on phone ? no idea as to why Apple decided to do this and it will be interesting to know.

After spending nearly £1200+ it sounds ridiculous to me hence 1* and the word USELESS.

Slow, overall not a great Apple experience

    • Written by from Portland

Although this might be the best way to get photos from your camera's SD card to your iPad, it's certainly not a great "Apple-like" experience. I'm no prom, but can take 50-100 photos a day on vacation. I wanted a solution to get RAW images onto my iPad for some quick on-the-go editing (using a RAW editor like Photogene...).

The process of transferring photos is cumbersome. First, plug your SD card into the Reader. Then plug the Reader into the iPad. The Photos app will launch automatically with a new option on the bottom, "Import." Here's where it gets s-l-o-w. Each RAW file (maybe 15MB?) takes about 1 second to load as a thumbnail. If you have 50 or 100 or 500 images on your SD card, they will all have to load before you can do anything. Remember, this is just the image thumbnail. Oh, and you can't switch over to another app while this is happening...basically you are stuck waiting for this to complete.

Once all the thumbnails load, you can then choose which images you actually want to import to the iPad. Tap on them to select, then choose "Import" and wait some more for the images to actually get imported into your Camera Roll.

Overall, not a great solution--seems a bit haphazard, and I wish some OS updates would speed this up. Falls short of "Apple" simplicity and magic.

    Does not work!

    • Written by from Kirrawee

I bought this product some time ago and it has never worked on my iPad mini 64GB. I have also tried it on an iPad mini 2 32GB and it did not work on that either.
I try every time there is a new iOS update for the iPad, but it still fails to work.
I have also tried various sized SD card (128MB, 1GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB) and nothing happens.
Being a photographer, I thought that this would be a great item to have but I am very disappointed in this product.

SD Card Reader No longer works on iPad 2 or iPad Air 2

    • Written by from Roseville

I have an iPad 2 and and iPad Air 2. My SD carder worked a few months ago, but ever since OS upgrades, it no longer works. When I plug it in, it opens the photo app, but doesn't allow me to see the photos on the card, let alone download them. Very annoying!! I'll bring it to the Apple store eventually to see if they can get it to work or replace it.

    Excellent product

Inserted SD Card, attached reader to Lightning Port, entered Import command and there were my photos in the Camera Roll waiting to be selected into Albums. Brilliant! Especially as I had been apprehensive after reading the some of the reviews. Apple assured me that any problems would be sorted anyway. So go ahead and buy one, you won't regret it.

    Works Perfect

    • Written by from Santa Rosa

Purchased in February 2015 for my new 128gb iPad Air 2.
It worked exactly as advertised. No issues at all.

It is a simple straight forward way to transfer photos from my camera (Canon) to my iPad.

The reviewers who had connectivity issues may have missed the compatibility list or made assumptions that this reader might work with devices other than those on the list.

The reader also worked perfectly on my wife's 2 year old mini iPad.

    works 100% O.K.

    • Written by from Hoddesdon

Having read the reviews and seen a near 50% failure rate, I ordered an SD card reader with some trepidation. However, no problems. Worked first time and dead easy to use - no hassle at all. It might have been more helpful if other users writing negative comments had helped by saying what SD cards they used. I use SD cards from a main stream reputable make - Sandisk and have 8 and 16 gb cards. They do have a DCIM sub directory which holds the photos in and my photos are saved with 8 digit filenames in xxx_xxxx format where the first three characters are letters and the last four are numbers.
But perhaps Apple ought to be more user friendly and proactive and provide some more helpful advice on just why there are so many negative reviews and how to avoid breakdowns in compatibility between their SD card reader and photos as experienced by some users.
