The airport extreme has been a complete waste of money. Despite the promise that it offers extended range and reliable internet connection it offers neither.

The BT home hub which it has replaced (I will be swapping back) offers better connectivity and a longer wifi range! The airport extreme is utterly useless, it keeps cutting out and covers half the area that the previous hub did.

This is all despite being promised in more than one apple store and by reading the spec that this would improve my wifi range and connection.

I have tested the speed that the extreme offers through its wifi connection and compared it with the BT version and it doesn't even come close a whole 4meg slower.

A useless gadget DO NOT BUY!!

I have a 4000sqft house and the old modem i use was Cisco, it had horrible range. so we switched to this airport route, the range and signal strength were AMAZING! (from 2 bars to full 5 bars in the upper level and from 1 bar to 5 bars in the yard and basement.)

only because i turned it off . Works well with iPod touch and

I thought this device had potential with the ability to share printers and drives so I decided to take chance. So far my experience has been "Extremely" disappointing. Nothing seems to work and the configuration utilities are nearly useless along with the documentation that ships in the box. Granted, I work in IT, so I will continue to mess with the configuration and get it working, but this has been a very disjointed user interface. I'm not even a fan of other competitors products such as Linksys, but so far the Linksys atleast has a decent brower-based configuration utility that is somewhat usable...

I bought the Airport Extreme in January 2012 to replace my Netgear router, which was constantly needing to be reset. After six months of using the Airport Extreme, it stopped working. No lights come on anymore, and no connection for my wireless products. I'm going to return it to the local Apple store as soon as I get a chance. I hooked up my $30 Netgear router, and thankfully it's working. I'm very disappointed in my Airport Extreme. For the money, it should last forever, not six months. P.S. My husband just returned his iPad 3 for the third time. What's happening to Apple????

It has been 3 months and running - has not had a reboot once! This is exactly what i wanted. In the past, i always bought linksys routers for my home network and always had to restart the routers occasionally - sometimes as often as 2 weeks.

With my earlier routers, the network would start to slow down as soon as i start moving data between any two systems (e.g streaming videos from server to mac etc). But with the AirPort Extreme, i have not experienced a slowdown at all.

The price was steep and contemplated quite a bit before buying it. However, now there is no looking back. The proof is in the pudding !

I have had many routers. This one does it all with ease. I use to have issues while downloading and streaming content at the same time not now. It just does the job.

I'm stunned that Apple apparently didn't test this device with FAT32 disks (or have a way to format as HFS+ built into the "AirPort Utility"). The FAT32 disk I have connected can read just fine over the network (although it sleeps the disk after 15 seconds or so), but cannot write to the disk from any of my network devices. When it does successfully write the speed is laughably slow. I guess that's what one can expect from a company named after a fruit.

My last wifi router was a Netgear wrn2000; a 50$ unit. It did a decent job until the wireless module went out. Now it was time to upgrade for serious stuff.

The airport extreme is a bigger bulkier wireless router as the average and the build quality is excellent when you hold the unit in your hands.

Only five simple questions was needed to setup the device with the airport utility soft and voila it was working.
I did observe speed gain on the both the wireless and the wired benchmarks. While I can't stat numbers, some could say that it's only impression and ... yep the airport extreme is obviously much faster but I can't say how much faster.

Pro's:
- very easy and intuitive to setup;
- solid signal and very fast speed (wireless and wired)
- build quality
- looks nice (duh)

Con's:
- a bit pricey hey but you get what your paying for :)
- if your a techie junkie about tweaks, mtu, fine-tuning details then I suspect that the airport extreme will be too closed / simple for your needs.

I was trying for one year to get my Verizon FIOS Wireless router to work properly to cover WLAN access in my apartment, no luck. I tried WLAN repeaters, Powerline, etc. all did not offer enough bandwidth - I plugged in the AirPort Extreme and 2min later I was surfing with full bandwidth (45Mbps) from across the apartment. Also my iPad and iPhone internet access is now much faster (2-3x faster).
