Great product!! Have had several... Phillips, Bose, NIke, etc. and these are the most comfortable and lasting pair I've tried. They stay on, you can adjust to let in as much noise as you'd like, and have plenty of cord to put your phone in pocket, armband, etc.

My attempt at a comprehensive review

    • Written by from San Carlos

I've used these for trail and road running approximately 100 miles now.

Overall: Great bass, fair to poor highs, great fit, but has a few functional issues.

Even though the highs are diminished, the bass and overall sound is still better than any headphones of this type I've ever heard. The fit is excellent. It is lightly spring loaded to hold each earbud in your ears. It never slips and is never uncomfortable for me for over 90 minutes at a time. Car traffic can still be heard pretty well.

The mic and controls are well-placed, but hard to distinguish the buttons while running. I've taken maybe 4 phone calls while running, and everyone has complained about wind noise and basically unusable sound quality. The cable is on the left side, which makes it a poor choice for a hands-free set while driving for me. The behind-the-head frame probably makes these a poor choice for use on an airplane, but I haven't tested that. I have rinsed them with water several times with no change in performance.

Two biggest complaints: Excessive wind noise while running or in any light breeze, and foam pads that constantly fall off. The wind noise is usually tolerable, but often not. The foam ear pads are a must if you sweat at all. Without them, the rubber earbuds become like toilet plungers on your eardrums. Not good. The foam pads mitigate that problem, but they are far too delicate and easily fall off when taking the headphones off. I have dropped the little foam pads on the trail several times, but miraculously found them again. Sennheiser needs to fix that and they need to give you at least a half dozen spare pairs.

I do like these, but for the price, they should not have the problems I noted.

    Worth it!

I've gone through two pair of Klipsch S4i's, two Apple sets, two Sony sets and none of them come close to these. They were even smart enough to put the controls high enough that they won't be inside your shirt if you route your wire that way. Sweat ruined the mic and controls on both of my Klipsch that way. Amazing bass response, comfortable, don't move a bit. Everyone has different ears, but if they fit, they rock!

Great sound and stays in my ears

    • Written by from London

I bought these headphones for use at the gym.
I've tried ones that hook over your ears or earbud ones and when I get a bit sweaty, they just slip out.
After much research and advice, I decided to opt for these. I cannot fault the sound quality or the fact they actually stay in place when I'm on the treadmill but I must have really odd ears. My right ear was absolutely fine yet after 2 hours in the gym, I could barely touch my left ear, I was so painful and bruised.
Sadly I'm going to have to return these......gutted as I though I'd found the perfect headphones :-(

    Great all-around headphones!

    • Written by from Turlock

I was in the market for a new pair of headphones and, having been duped by some cheaper headphones in the past, I was willing to spend a few extra bucks for some decent ones. I have been using the headphones that come standard with the iPhone/iPod for years and really have no complaints about them. Although I enjoy clear, full-range sound, I am no audiophile; the Apple earbuds fit the bill just fine for me. And, up until the rubber surround on the earbuds deteriorated and came off, I had no issues with them staying in my ears either.

These were an excellent choice. The fit is quite comfortable, although the band around the back of the head doesn't sit as close to my head as I thought it would. That is minor, though, and I don't notice at all while I'm wearing them. I have worn them without the foam covers for a few runs (20-40 minutes per run) and don't have any complaints of ear pain or anything like that. The sound is crisp and clear, although it is a little biased towards the bass than the highs. Again, a minor thing (besides, the bass is typically the driving sound for your pace). The only thing I've noticed is wind noise. I run outside and whenever I'm running into a breeze, the wind noise is noticeable, however, not unbearable. For me, it's not a huge issue, but something to think about if you think it will be.

The volume control/microphone is actually pretty close to the headphones. I run the cable underneath my shirt and the controls sit above my collar. I just use the included clip to tether the cable to my collar and I'm good to go! The cable is also more than long enough for me to have my iPod attached to the waistband of my shorts without any pulling of the cord. All-in-all, I am happy with these and would recommend them to anyone searching for their next pair of headphones.

i always go for small ear-buds-on-a-wire... fit my irregular head well and stay put when i am running. i've been through many generations of Sony clip-ear or back-head ear-buds. they were good, but disposable. i jumped up to the Sennheiser's on a money-lark...

these things are expensive, but well-worth it. incredible bass and dynamic range. i'll never go back to lesser ear-plugs.

I have a small home recording studio and I own a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50, considered one of the best sellers for studio monitoring. When I put on the Sennheiser PMX685i, I was very surprised on how good these headphones sound. Nice deep and clear bass even on high volume and bright and crisp highs. Comparing them to the AT's, they're not that far off on quality of sound. The best $80 I've spent on headphones. Plus you can still hear what's going on around you but at the same time they feel like they have a noise cancelling feature on... Highly recommend this headphones...

GREAT sound, very comfortable. Water resistant... not so much

    • Written by from San Clemente

I'm on my 4th and 5th set of these (all but the first two are warranty replacements). They sound amazing. I switched to X-1s out of necessity while my current two pairs were in the shop and those sounded absolutely terrible in comparison.

These headphones are also comfortable and stable.

BUT (and it is a BIG BUT), I do not think that they are water resistant. I use them to run 3x a week and at the gym 3x a week. After a few months of use, each pair has either cut out on one side, lost functionality of the in-line controller, or started to randomly call up siri during normal use. In short, they become unusable. My only explanation is that sweat is getting in the inline controller (from running down the cord) and screwing up the circuits. That said, the company has been great about warranty replacements... but you have to do without the headphones for a few weeks while you exchange them.

Great, comfortable headphones. Unfortunately a couple weeks of having them and I've somehow lost one of the foam ear pads :( Trying to figure out how to get a replacement.

If you need headphones for running buy something else!

    • Written by from Toronto

I ran with my first set of these 5 times a week. This is the second pair of this model I purchased. I like the style because they don't fall out. The first set lasted 6 months before Siri started coming on every 30 seconds or so. I disabled Siri and then Voice Control started activating instead. I go through headphones once a year so did not think much of it. I purchased a second set and 6km in to my very first run with them and here comes Voice Control again.

    Good headphones until they died.

    • Written by from BRISTOL

I used these headphones for hard training sessions both in and out of the gym. Sound quality is good and they stayed in place which was good, but became a lot less comfortable on long training sessions.

Unfortunately, sweat must have got into the volume buttons which made them unresponsive, effectively rendering them useless. This happened with two sets of headphones making them dangerous when volume locks in high.

For low intensity training purposes these might work for you but if you're training involves large amounts of sweat then you might experience the same problem.

Good Sound Quality, Poor Product Quality

I use these headphones for 3 months, during that time they work just great, the Sennheiser sound quality has been always be a favorite for me. But after the third month the remote control in the headphones stops working, I have to use my iphone/ipod to control de volume and tracks.

    Active? They're worth every penny

I ride horses, bike and work on a ranch and these go w/ me everywhere and get the job done. Lightweight, comfortable, stay put and great sound. Plus the "at your finger tips" control keep me from having to dig in my pocket for my iPod to stop, skip or adjust the volume. These are the best headphones ever for active people.

I've had the 680i version for over a year. I've logged over 500 miles running with them. I just received these as a Christmas gift. After two runs I can say these have improved on the 680i. They are lighter, they sound even better and the control is easy to operate. Highly recommended.

    Not worth the money

    • Written by from New York

More expensive is not always better and it is true. I am a runner and bought these thinking they would give me better sound. These Headphone are not really comfortable and you can do better with a cheaper model. I bought a set only to find out they were too tight in my ears and also the sound is not any better than my cheaper set.

    Poor quality

    • Written by from Atlanta

Overall, poor quality built with decent sounds.

1- Sound is good , nothing amazing but good.

2- Looks - mediocre - plastic looks cheap

3- Build - bad - the soft cover for the earpieces comes off very easily, I lost mine within a week of use , the plug just recently broke.

Overall, I do not recommend this product due to quality issues.

I have been searching for an active pair of head phones that are light weight, has lots of base, functional and easy to use. They don't fall off easy to adjust and what else can I say. I am ordering another pair for my honey and myself! Great training accessory. I love my Bose over the ear but this is an awesome alternative for in-ear use.

Great fit and sound for running.
However, after a month one of the rubber ear surrounds went missing and the other was noticed to be loose.
Furthermore the remote started activating Siri, increasing the loudness after several km due to sweat running down the cord into the remote. This means that the music pauses for Siri or gets very loud. Not well designed as there is a well for the sweat to collect in around the cord.
