I've been an avid user of B&W products for over a dozen years and currently own a pair of sig 805 and 802D driven by classe Delta series electronics. When I found out the P5 was in the making, I was anxious to get my hands (and ears) on a pair. Well, I got them and here's the low down...
built: as expected, it is second to none in this price range. I know that many have reservation about the thin cord. I actually like it as it doesn't get in the way when I'm on the go. Thick cords are bothersome and unwieldy. Because it is easily replaced, I don't care if it doesn't last a decade. Aside from this, everything else about the unit is top notch...hard to believe they can sell it for just $300.
comfort: They are light and hugs the head very tightly. You can jog with these. Not as comfortable as bose qc15 because it sits over the ears instead of around. I think it's fine if you wear it for a couple of hours at a time. My ears are a little sore after just an hour.
sound: I own a pair of bose qc15 and I have to admit, these blow them away in every respect. The highs are much clearer. Voices are more opened. Bass is punchy and smoother. Of course, they are not as good at noise cancellation/isolation as the bose, but they are adequate for most settings. Just remember to tweak how they sit on your head. This affects the bass if they are not air tight over the ears. So how do they compare with their audiophile products? Perhaps a little unfair to compare them with a system costing as much as a car, but here goes...as good as they sound for headphones, you can still tell they are...closed ear headphones. There is a distinct coloration that sounds like drivers mounted in a "tube." This is very pronounced in the mid range. There isn't the stage presence and air that I'm used to. The bottom line is, I'm happy with them, but don't expect them to be more then what they are and they are mass consumer grade product just like the zep. …- Written by Huy D from denver

TIME MACHINE FOR THE EARS
The convenience of digital music had without me realising it superseded the enjoyment of the music itself. Being able to skip arou nd a music collection of tens of thousands of tracks manually or on shuffle had become the defining reason for owning an iPod. Wow my entire record collection in my pocket! Then I treated myself to these gorgeous headphones, the design and build quality alone almost selling me on them. But the purity of the sound and the crispness of the tones has transformed the way I listen to my music. Even the most familiar piece of music that I purchased on vinyl decades ago and re-purchased on compact disc and then downloaded digitally is transformed into a fresh listening experience by these headphones. Dozens of tiny sounds that had been buried within the grooves had been unearthed, and I found myself listening, really listening until the track finished. To close your eyes and hear your favourite music with new clarity is quite astonishing, as if your ears had been syringed ! It reminded me of the first time I put on a pair of prescription glasses, I had always assumed that the world was blurred for everyone, it was as if I had had my eyes removed, cleaned, polished and re-fitted. These headphones will do the same for your ears! I'm not someone who can spend £250 on a set of headphones on a whim, so a lot of thought went into buying them, and I went through the usual apprehension about whether I should have bought a cheaper pair, did I really need a pair at all! But within a few minutes of putting them on I knew that I had made the right decision. I've made myself playlists of tracks I hadn't listened to for ages, it even made me listen to Dark Side of the Moon for the first time in probably fifteen years, I'm from that generation who used the album as a way of setting up a hi-fi and like a time machine for the ears it again made me marvel at the wonders of stereo sound ! :-) If you don't buy these headphones for yourself, buy them for your ears! …

Incredible in every sense of the word!
I was looking for an alternative to the bulky Monster Beats. I've owned the monster beats ever since they first came out and alth ough the sound is very good, i found them really large and disliked the fact it required batteries. I picked these up to try out because I was very impressed with the slim size and industrial design (they are built with metal and leather).
I am a huge fan of these Bowers & Wilkins P5 Headphones. I’m no audiophile but these headphones deliver the whole package - best sound I’ve ever heard and an amazing retro design. I was a bit worried about the discomfort of the pads pressing on my ears but after about 3 days of use, the high quality leather pads “break in” and they are really comfortable.
I found these to be worth every penny. However, if you have a music collection with lower bitrate (under 256 kbps) I wouldn’t advise investing in high-end audio equipment. …- Written by Imam S from New York

Awesome Headphones!!! 1 HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT
First of all I have to say that these headphones are simply spectacular!
My B&O earphones just broke & I wanted to give headphone s a try, but their H6's won't be out until June/July in HK.
SOUND-
In my opinion these have strong basses, mids & highs-for USD$299.95). Very natural clarity along with outstanding R/L stereo, if you like the signature crisp B&W sound you'll love these.
BUILD-
Love the New Zealand sheep's skin leather, very comfy! But they feel like they could get dirty too easily...I got them in Ivory. Not a single component of plastic on them which makes it feel even more luxurious & sturdy. Removal ear cups & cable, beautiful travel pouch included!!!
DISAPPOINTMENTS-
I got them in Ivory "white", & even right out of the box they have this dirty white appearance to them.. I was hoping for a brighter complexion. The texture of the leather feels dusty too, I got them at Apple so I'm deciding if I should swap them in for the black ones.
Overall a great product (apart from the "Ivory" colored leather,which is partly my problem since chose the color) I think I got everything I paid for in these headphone! …- Written by Nicholas E

Fantastic quality
Great build quality as well as sound quality. Unlike headphones from it's competitors (eg. Bose), these headphones feel like they cost $300. You definitely get what you pay for. They also come with a very nice, soft travel case. …

Excellent quality
I can't fault the quality of these headphones, the overall build and sound quality is excellent
The only downfall to the headphon es are being leather this can become uncomfortable on the ears after long periods of time but this is nothing major.

Both headphones sound really great however the Momentums offer a slightly better soundstage due to b eing around the ear headphones instead of on the ear like the P5s. Personally I prefer the P5s as I find them more comfortable and I really like the design. The Momentums are comfortable too they just don't fit my head as nicely as the p5s. You really can't go wrong with either pair. …

how do these headphones sound when it comes to rap music? what about bass heavy tracks? I know these are good for naturalistic sounds. dub step?

I got a pair of these the other day. First and foremost - my taste is mostly in the sense of Trance, techno, electro, drum n bass, house and some dubstep.
In terms of sound quality - they are natural and ABSOLUTELY amazing.
But as a bass heavy type enthusiast - you might be disappointed.
The P5's weren't really designed to be bass heavy monster crazy headphones, they were designed for an overall exceptional sound.
Don't let that put you off them, they are immense in terms of sound quality - i notice pieces of instrument like never before and where compression is lacking with these headphones. i'm just telling you what i personally feel as a bass heavy type lover.
At lower volumes - the bass isn't overwhelming... just balanced.
At 70-80% the bass comes alive - but not to the extent that the Beats. But with the beats you do lose the immense sound quality.
In terms of Hip Hop/Rap - i know the bass you want, and they aren't as prominent on these headphones.
What i will regard as rolling bass is a mass drop and phat bassline - the stuff you find in these songs:
36 Mafia - late night tip
Wine O & Paul Wall - Pop my trunk
DMX - Dogs Out
50 Cent - Many Men
Eminem - Under the Influence
Beats handle the bass response with more punch but that's not what the P5s are for.
In terms of Dubstep - the bass is better handled because it is fast paced with brilliant kicks and compressed lo dirty synths and bass synths. It worked very well with:
Avicii - Levels (Skrillex remix)
Calvin Harris - Flashback (Millions like us remix)
Rusko - Hold On (Subfocus Remix) <- technically not dubstep.
Bass is not as immense as the beats - but with that amazing sound quality WHO CARES!!!!!
Overall - if bass is your thing, these headphones may be a let down... BUT REST ASSURE I AM NOT ONE BIT DISAPPOINTED.

well the Bose are around-the ear type so in a way the enclosure will make them sound louder and use the noise cancelation that they have but if its comparing the sound then no they are the same, they both offer a 40mm driver so the only difference is how they manipulate the sound. I have to be honest i dont like the Bose. Bose has a decent design to give you that added noise cancelation effect but in reality they dont do much justice to me and they feel cheap...they are almost fully made of plastic and really don't see reasoning in spending $300 bucks for them. The P5's have little to no plastic its Leather and metal not to mention the metal gives speakers added bass to a speaker and the speaker cones are made out of Kevlar woven which was engineered by B&W to reproduce high quality sound in all their speaker systems while all bose are made out of paper so you see that price tags starts looking alot more of a rip off compared to the P5's. …
