I bought this to connect my 5 to my car (Benz) electronics so I could control my phone with the car's joystick. Plugged it in and I bought this to connect my 5 to my car (Benz) electronics so I could control my phone with the car's joystick. Plugged it in and it worked perfectly (to my surprise). My car has a 30 pin cable out and this 30 pin to Lightning fit perfectly and is long enough to the two cables together can connect to the phone while in the cup holder.

My only complaint is the price (thus the 4 star rating). Apple should include one of these with every device as we've all made investments in 30 pin cables over the past 7 years. Starting to lose my patience with Apple over this one.

You buy this adapter because it works with your phone case Andy you carry it with you. White lightning connector cables are $19 and you can get white 30 pin cables for just a few bucks. You use this connector to use the 30 pin cables you have now. If you have to buy 4 lightning cables that's $80 and you still can't use the 30 pin docks without the adapter. This adapter while over priced at $39.99 it is still less than buying all new sync cables. This is a 5 star product but I only gave it 4 stars because of the price and Apple finding another way to make my wallet a little lighter. Apple you should have included one with the device, most of us would have bought at least one more.

Considering that they are changing this I would have thought they'd include one with the phone.

Enough griping, this cable works great and has even made it easier for me to talk on the phone while it is plugged into my car. The cable I had was a little too short to not have a constant tugging from the coiled cord. Now with the extra 20cm I can talk comfortably.

I used the cable (and the adapter) in my car. I had no issues with the adapter, but the cable would only work about 25% of the time. My music would just stop playing randomly and I would have to disconnect to the cable entirely and reconnect everything to get it to work again. Other times it would not recognize my device at all and then i'd just get an error message. At first i thought maybe it was a bad cable, so i exchanged it for another, but the same thing kept happening.

  • Doesn't work with Lifeproof case (iPhone 6)

My car's previous owner had the dealership wire a 30 pin adapter hidden in the console so you can play music from an Apple product My car's previous owner had the dealership wire a 30 pin adapter hidden in the console so you can play music from an Apple product (iPhone, iPod, etc.) through the regular stock stereo. I really enjoy having this feature, but I recently purchased an iPhone 6 which has the lighting connection. I also have a Lifeproof case to protect my new phone. I purchased this adapter from Apple knowing the shorter adapter likely wouldn't fit with the case. Well, this adapter doesn't fit either. The plastic around the lightning connection is bigger than the regular phone charger (which fits fine with my case). I had to grind the plastic completely off this adapter for it to fit, and it barely does. So I just voided any warranty on what I consider an overpriced adapter. I'm pretty annoyed that I had to buy a proprietary connection adapter to fit a prior proprietary connection, then be forced to modify it in order to work, thereby voiding any warranty on said overpriced adapter. Disappointed in Apple on this one.
