I just got into cycling and i wanted something that would help me keep track of my rides. The two magnets that come with this: one is placed on the spoke of the back tire and the other is placed on the crank arm so you will have to remove pedal on your bike to get it in place. Setup is easy. Wahoo also has a Bluetooth Heart Rate Chest Strap that works in unison with these other sensors. You can even upload your ride data to other apps such as Strava. Definitely 5 Stars!!!

The only sensor currently available that uses low-energy Bluetooth Smart, so that the sensor battery should last over a year. Uses a standard replaceable watch battery inside. It is waterproof and mounts solidly, so it's fine for both road and trail use. The only problem is that the magnet and rubber loop for the sensor will not fit on larger-diameter aluminum mountain bike frames with thick crank arms and chainstays. Also, it has a slight tendency to be tilted by a fraction of an inch during use or transport, which may cause loss of sensor readings and require a quick re-adjustment. But overall, a must-have accessory. Works great with Cyclemeter. The speed reading is much more accurate than GPS.

Wahoo has a free app that lets you track your ride and upload to other online tracking sites, as is mentioned in the description. The only drawback for me that I hope will be remedied soon is that my (former) MapMyRide app did not connect to the Bluetooth sensor. I suspect MMR might be preparing their own sensor to sell, but it could just be the new Bluetooth connection. Just a heads up if you plan to keep using MMR on your smartphone. I still think MMR is the superior ride mapping site, though it currently takes several steps of exporting and importing to get my Wahoo rides onto it.

I just did a short ride for an hour and battery life only dropped 20% on my iPhone 5s. I am also using their Tickr heart rate monitor, and used Wahoo's app to display speed/cadence/mileage etc. The app is good as the gadget and flexible to work with all of your favorite online activity trackers.

I may glue the magnet to the crank arm, as the stretchy rubber piece isn't the best look on my bike.

  • Is it a prototype?

Bought two, returned one that didn't work. Doesn't work terribly well in real life, cadence sensor slips down on crank. Construct Bought two, returned one that didn't work. Doesn't work terribly well in real life, cadence sensor slips down on crank. Construction seems brittle and water ingress will probably end its life prematurely. Fitting with rubber bands means you have to ensure positioning is ok.

Needs a bunch of different Apps apparently when one is expected.

I'm using the Polar heart sensor and app to capture my bike rides instead, at least that gives some interesting stats.
