Pleasantly surprised with the sound quality and ease of operation. The design is durable, the motion activated commands work great, audio is balanced and overall the unit is a portable speaker done right. More

    Serioulsy Impressed!

    • Written by from St. Albert

This is one impressive little unit! Very rugged, it definitely doesn't feel cheap or plasticy at all. The fact that it's water resistant is an awesome feature since I can take it in the shower with me to listen to my morning news and not worry about it being damaged. I thought the sensor gestures would be gimmicky but it is not at all, and works very very well. Sound quality is very good for a speaker this size. The bass is decent, mids and highs seem very balanced, and the volume can get pretty loud without any distortion. Battery life is as advertised, and I found the range with my iphone 4S to be awesome (easily 30 feet). Price is a bit steep, but to me it felt much more rugged than the competing Jambox. Overall I'd highly recommend this little speaker if you plan on traveling, or just using it from room to room in your house. More

    This speaker packs a punch!!!!

    • Written by from Honolulu

I just compared the Shoqbox with the Jambox and found that the Shoqbox is a better speaker. The Shoqbox had higher volume capability which made it sound better because of less distortion. It is a beefier design and will take a little more space in a bag, but I guess that's what a carabiner is for. It is designed to be carried in that fashion. I'm definitely keeping the Shoqbox. Try them both out to come up with your own conclusion. More

I never give anything 5 stars...

    • Written by from Westfield

But this is pretty darn close to getting 5!

Portable speakers are such a crap-shoot... They almost always have that annoying "tinny" sound to them. I was planning to buy the JamBox speaker, but an Apple Store employee pointed this one out to me when I said that I was looking for good sounding speakers that would specifically be used while traveling. She pointed out that it was drop/ shock/ splash proof, and it seemed that it would be rugged enough for my needs. She also mentioned that a store employee bought one a few days before, and he seemed very pleased with it. I took the bait, and decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did.

When I first got it out of the box, I had a terrible time getting it to sync via bluetooth. I soon found out that my computer was running as slow as molasses, and after I reset my internet connections, it seemed to pair up quickly. I've been using it for about 1.5 hours now (it came 1/2 charged), and it sounds great. I have played some Rush (great distinction between Geddy Lee's high voice and low bass), Andy McKee (his acoustic guitar sounds crisp and clear), Skrillex (the bass sounds very good... wub wub wub....), Pink Floyd (plenty of depth in their complex sounds), and Social Distortion (good old fashioned guitar rock and roll). For a portable travel speaker, I'm very impressed with the variety of sounds it has handled already. It is currently sitting on a shelf 8-10 feet from me, playing music from iTunes Match on my iPad (3rd gen.). It has plenty of volume to fill the room, for sure.

I bought the green version, which looks very much like a military "olive drab" on the box... but in actuality it is so dark that it looks nearly black. No big deal. I only bought the green thinking it would be more identifiable if I lost it. If you are really craving that military green color, be forewarned that it isn't quite like what is shown on the box.

The lack of decent instructions can be pretty frustrating at first. I'm not sure why they put the "motion detecting" technology into it for changing tracks, etc.. Until I figured out how to shut it off, it was annoying.

It has a loop that can be attached so you can hang it from a carabiner or something similar if you want to. Size-wise it is about as big around as a standard pop can, but a little bit taller. This was a concern for me, because I have very little room left in my electronics carry-on bag. I was relieved when I opened the box and found that there is a lot of packaging material around it.

Construction seems very solid, the bass sounds better than the most other similar speakers, and it doesn't have a ton of that "tinny" sound that seems to be the norm in other travel speakers. I'm keeping it. Let's see how it handles the mean streets of Bangkok next month. Now go buy one and tell me if you agree. :)

    Annoying Unneeded Features

    • Written by from West Vancouver

There are a lot of good things about this speaker, the sound is good, the design and construction is solid, it looks cool. However the function sounds it makes were too annoying for me to keep it. When you turn it on and off it makes a LOUD chime noise, it has an annoying voice that tells you the power level, and once I accidentally changed that voice to French and it was very tricky to switch it back.... because it was speaking in French! The hand gesture control thing is useless, but at least it can be turned off.

It is obvious from this product that Philips knows how to make a high quality portable speaker, but they have a long way to go as far as usability.

I do not think so. I have paired them and it works great and it is not difficult as i have read from others. I think that given your are blind the pairing, while cool, is more of a gimmick than practical. With a price tag of close to 400 for 2 you could get much better sound without the hassles of pairing problems. It is a great sturdy portable solution. More

I purchased both of these and played them side by side. The 7300 was maybe slightly better but not much. It is not like you are comparing 2 amazing stereo systems. They are limited by size so you have to keep that in mind. The extremely small sonic difference was overshadowed by the fact that the 7200 is much more solid in build. I take it everywhere i go. I set up a tailgate and hund this speaker inside of the 10'x10' canopy tent and everyone was amazed at how great it was. The beach, bathroom, by the pool and anywhere in-between the 7200 is the better buy. I gave the 7300 as a gift to a friend. More
