    This is a simple way to control a power outlet via an app. Take the switch out of the box, plug it into a power outlet, set your This is a simple way to control a power outlet via an app. Take the switch out of the box, plug it into a power outlet, set your wifi to the WeMo, configure it in the app, hit the "done" button after the app finds it, and then you can turn the outlet on/off or make timer rules for it to go on and/or off. I'm using it to control an air conditioner, so I can turn it on about an hour before I get home, so it'll be nice and cool. Additional security features would be an improvement ... anyone on the same SSID with the WeMo app can control any outlet on that network.

    I'm not sure who answers the questions on these products but I can only assume they haven't bought one and are purely speculating. I'm not sure who answers the questions on these products but I can only assume they haven't bought one and are purely speculating. Let's clear up the UK 220V issue straight off. It IS 220V and works perfectly in the UK. Any mention of 110V is for the US plugs and is nothing to do with the UK plug. If you walk into an Apple Store and take a look at the bottom of the box it makes it quite clear that the plug is a 220V version.

    Unfortunately Apple are using the US photos which doesn't help the confusing but trust me, it's the UK plug and will work fine.

    Onto the device. It's a fairly bulky thing and very similar to the old plugs you'll have seen for turning your lights on and off when on holiday. Well this of course does exactly that but it works remotely so you can be switching your lights on and off from anywhere in the world. The other very useful feature is the ability to set times for the switch to come on and off and at set times including picking specific days. As you add more switches you just give them custom names and before you know it you've got home automation in the palm of your hands.

    This really is a great device that does exactly what it says on the tin.

    I just got home with my new WeMo switch. Easy to hook up. Secure once married to your wireless network. I wasn't sure it would wor I just got home with my new WeMo switch. Easy to hook up. Secure once married to your wireless network. I wasn't sure it would work away from home, but it works awesome over 3G / 4G with my VPN to home. It is like I am just there at home.

    Wish it was a little cheaper in price, but works as advertised. The rules work good. I was worried the app would have to stay open to make it turn on and off with a rule. It looks like the switch has some smarts and knows what time it is.

    Now I want about 10 more for the house.

    Went on holidays to our home in Tenerife, leaving a WeMo switch controlling the heating back in Ireland. On installing another WeM Went on holidays to our home in Tenerife, leaving a WeMo switch controlling the heating back in Ireland. On installing another WeMo switch in Tenerife, WeMo deleted my remote access to the WeMo in Ireland without warning (I established later that you only have remote access to WeMo's in one location - major shortcoming). Heating left on 24/7. I am a programmer and desperately tried to get telnet, web or any kind of access to the device in order to switch it off. Technical support were totally clueless and unhelpful. Head office did not return any of my calls. If you loose your remote access settings from your mobile to a WeMo device, you are doomed. I wish I had read some of the reviews below before buying this product.

    I used WeMo switches for a long time. With every software update of the app or the firmware of the switches there came up new prob I used WeMo switches for a long time. With every software update of the app or the firmware of the switches there came up new problems. Especialy the rules are not working as it is promised in the maual. The explanations in the manaual are reduced to the max. Nobody can really understand what is meant or the function of the rules (for example the sunset rules). But at least I got the system running. The support ist not worth the name. The answer I heard very often: "there must be a software problem and we try to find a solution". Yo´ll never get a concret answer to your proplem.

    The system itself is from it´s functions (as it should be) very good, but there are so many software buggs that everyone will earlier or later stop to use the system because it´s not reliable at all.

    Sorry to say, but the system is still in a development phase and not ready at all for a worldwide market. Improve the system, improve your people and improve your support - otherwise WeMo will keep a recomendation as a desater company.

    I purchased a regular and Insight version of this switch late last winter. They were both OK, but my first negative observations I purchased a regular and Insight version of this switch late last winter. They were both OK, but my first negative observations were: I didn't seem to be able to control them from both my iPhone and my iPad. I got some flaky error. So I just used my iPhone. Then while traveling in September the switch on my router went off by itself. I have my WeMos on a separate network, so I was able to power cycle it successfully. Today, I updated the firmware and my Insight switch is "Not Detected" about 2/3 of the time. Also, I don't see a way to have multiple homes setup on the same WeMo account. It should allow for that for multiple WiFi networks in the same building or for vacation homes.
