Iomega 1TB UltraMax Hard Drive with Triple Interface + USB/FireWire Hub
You're Iomega 1TB is not dead!!!

First of all I do use two of these intensively in my recording studio.
It is a quite reliable hard drive, but if you have the latest mac pro,
I suggest you add internal drives for faster performances.
I thought my recordings where partly lost a year ago after my disk appeared to
have crashed badly.
I did everything I could to get the data back.
To all of you that have valuable data stored on this 1TB
don't throw it away in case of failure (strange noises, red light or two green led
blocked) it is not as bad as it looks.
The answer was actually very simple in my case. I bought a new power supply,
and plugged it to the HD and everything was back to normal for a year.
Due to very poor quality, the power supply doesn't last more than a year.
The HD itself is reliable they just have very bad power supplies...
Iomega must have changed this power supplies because it tends to be very bad for their reputation.

It is really hard to rate this product - great when working, but...

I have during the last 6 months bought 4 of the UltraMax drives. I have so far been very happy about the design, the quality and performance, despite that the fans are a bit noisy compared to my very silent iMac and the blue light is a bit to powerfull during the dark hours.
I have used a lot of other Iomega products and really bin happy about these products, including 2 external 500 MB network drives. When I saw the specifications - especially the firewire connections with different speeds etc. there was therefore no doubt in my mind what I wanted to buy.
Unfortunately today the first UltraMax is sounding in away where there is absolutely no doubt about that one of the hard disks is very very sick and close to breaking down - each time there is a head movement it sounds awful. Luckily I have been able to transfer all my date from the drive to another of the UltraMax drives - but now I start to really worry about my other drives!!
I will keep you updated about the 'lifetime' and behavior of my other UltraMax drives, but I'm now already very worried about all my data...2 of 3 people found this useful

Very noisy - but very well working

I have this HD for about 6 month and now is getting extremely noisy. I had an issue with power supply where I was without HD for a month. Iomega has send me a replacement which was broken as well but finally its working again. After the month where I wasn't using it now the power button is not working (need to power down it with the cable). But I'm still happy with it.

Fab drive ... but RAID does not work
Written by HT from LONDON

Bought it for the RAID option - which I never got to work, albeit following the instructions to the letter. So now I have a 1 TB drive instead of a RAID 512 GB drive. It's fast and reliable, so good that I have bought another one to back up the first one ... RAID didn't work on that one either.

Very good but noisy fans

A seemingly solid unit with no operating issues, but very noisy fans. Not ideal for a media centre nor a quiet office space.
