You're Iomega 1TB is not dead!!!

First of all I do use two of these intensively in my recording studio.
It is a quite reliable hard drive, but if you have the latest mac pro,
I suggest you add internal drives for faster performances.
I thought my recordings where partly lost a year ago after my disk appeared to
    have crashed badly.
I did everything I could to get the data back.

To all of you that have valuable data stored on this 1TB
don't throw it away in case of failure (strange noises, red light or two green led
blocked) it is not as bad as it looks.
The answer was actually very simple in my case. I bought a new power supply,
and plugged it to the HD and everything was back to normal for a year.
Due to very poor quality, the power supply doesn't last more than a year.
The HD itself is reliable they just have very bad power supplies...
Iomega must have changed this power supplies because it tends to be very bad for their reputation.

    All the best

    Rubbish

Lost the first one after ca. 1 year, had to send it to Holland on my own cost, then got 2 refurbished units (again they tried to charge me for the postal costs, which they finally waved after I had to complain a lot) and three power units, none of which worked, until they finally sent me another new unit, which in turn gave up the ghost in ca. 7 months. I don't even want to hear the name Iomega any more. Went back to buying a LaCie instead. I only gave it the one star, because they didn't let me post without it, otherwise it wouldn't even get the one.

Be aware! This disk dies in a year. Took my 150GB music library along with plus almost a TB worth of other data. i bet Iomega does nothing to recover the data damages even the disk is under warranty.

Same as a few other reviews, this stopped working in just under a year.
Fails to power up on desktop. not worth it if you are using this as backup or working server. have 2 smaller LaCie F.A. Porsche 500 GB external drives and they have been going for a few years now with no problems.

    Iomege hard drive

This is my third such hard drive bought over a one year period,as a professional photographer and using RAW files you can imagine how fast a hard drive fills up. I use the first one of my drives as a back up system for a time machine and the other two for storing clients work, i have owned other brands of hard drives but found them to be slow and not worth the money spent on them, all round i could not praise the Iomege hard drive enough and have encouraged my fellow professional photographers to purchase this device.

    not good ...

I have had three of these. One failed pretty soon, but I thought: **** happens (why doesn't Apple let me write such ordinary words?). We bought two more. One has just failed - dodgy first drive and then complete failure of both drives to power up. The third is OK so far. Looks good, but seems to be a bummer (hey, Apple lets me use that word - how liberal of them!). The trouble is, what is better?

I bought this drive as a Time Machine backup drive for my macbook pro and it failed in less than a year. When you turn it on all you hear is the drives trying to powerup and that is it. It looks like a soild drive but its not!!

I have had this HD for a little over a year now. Absolutely no problems with it. You just have to remember to hold the power button in for a few seconds or it wont turn on and give the impression that its DOA. A little noisy but very reliable.

I bought this on a recommendation from a family member who was looking for a back up. I use my pro for family use with music and photos.

Worked fine for about 4 months and then I noticed it was not backing up on a regular basis, then stopped. This was being worked through the standard usb connection. After a while it would not recognise the usb connection so I tried the firewire connection, this worked for about 2 months.

Now there is a power issue, and as it out of warranty there is nothing that can be done. I have 1 tb of memory sitting here and can not power it up.

    I would advise against this.

Iomega Ultramaxx 1 TB - piece of junk

Bought mine 8 months ago from a Belgian Apple Reseller.

Noise is bit high, but bearable, as it is only for TimeMachine purposes
I have never move it since the first day - so, no shocks or whatsoever.

Today, I switch it on : two red lights : disk failed.

I could "revive" it by holding the reset button for ten seconds, but now ... "the disk you have inserted is unreadable -> format, ignore or cancel.
And Disk Utility only sees 500 GB - not the full Tera.

I will definitely NOT format it, since it would for sure destroy my backups, and I still hope to recover them somehow.
