Warning!!!! Rain gets into laptop compartment!!

    • Written by from Ann Arbor

Fashionable and small -- the bag has a fatal flaw. Returned it immediately.

While you can't see it well in the photos, there is about a half inch open on each side of the TOP of this bag where the flap folds over. This opening goes DIRECTLY into the laptop portion of this bag -- IF IT RAINS WATER GOES DIRECTLY INTO THE LAPTOP COMPARTMENT

Do not get this bag if you live where there is rain, snow, or heavy dust. Apparently they don't have any of those problems in Australia where the bag was designed.

Good quality at a low price

    • Written by from East Schodack

I've looked at many other bags before buying this one, and for all of the cases in its price range I liked this one the best. The reinforced casing for my MacBook Pro is enough to make me feel secure about using the shoulder strap and swinging my computer around. The additional pockets are useful and the look of the overall bag is not as flashy as some of the other ones out there. Overall, for being a college student and carrying my computer everwhere, this bag does a great job keeping things safe and comfortable.

    LOVE IT!!

    • Written by from kkku,

Great bag! I have been using this bag for 3 months now everday for my mac book pro and I feel completely safe with it. The padding is sufficient, and there is definitely tons of space. My only complaint is the amount of room left in the computer compartment of the bag. I would have preferred something more tailored for the laptop only. But still, great bag, shoulder strap is fairly comfortable.

    Not that great...

    • Written by from Ormond Beach

I bought this bag as a smaller, more portable alternative to my Crumpler bag. I wanted to like it as much as my Crumpler, but then again, it's half the price.

    -Good color scheme
    -Good overall size
    -Vertical orientation

    -Laptop compartment is too big
-Rain could get into the laptop compartment (this is absurd)
-The shoulder strap is too cheap/thin so it constantly roles up and gets twisted
-Shoulder pad is cheap and also roles up and twists around the too thin shoulder strap
-Handle on top is coated in rubber that is way too tacky, so it grabs your shirt and gets all twisted up (I had to cut mine off)
-No dedicated pockets for pens or pencils
    -Nylon feels cheap

    The Good and Really Bad

    • Written by from Sacramento

At first I really feel in love with this bag. It seemed like a slick design, but the more I used it things started to annoy me. First, the top strap seemed to flop around and did not stick down. Second, ripping started to occur in all places inside the bad. I cannot recommend this bag due to the average design and poor durability.

    Definitely too big...

    • Written by from Oakland

I've owned the Small Alley for quite awhile now, and am totally in love with it. However after getting a Macbook Pro recently I found that it didn't fit, but only by an inch of so length wise, width it fits perfectly. The flap is able to close, but barely, as the laptop pokes out about and inch - inch and a half. Anything else in the bag beyond the power adapter and a magazine and it doesn't work. After a couple months of using it like this the velcro has started to wear out as well.

Should have read the dimensions of this one a bit, it has a HUGE amount of space on either side of the laptop, and just feels bulky in general. They must have been ensuring those Dell "desktop replacements" could fit inside.

STM, how about making the Small Alley just a tad taller?

Reliable, hard wearing and well travelled bag!

    • Written by from blandford forum

I'm so happy with this bag that I thought it was worth my effort reviewing. I've had this bag since Feb 07 and it's carried my MacBook Pro every day since and it's still going strong.
I'm always packing more stuff than I need, I have a WD Passport drive in there, cables, magazines, plenty of paperwork/junk and I have this terrible habit of shoving my DSLR in the front flap pocket at the last minute (it's the only place it'll fit!).
It's well travelled, has a terrible carbon footprint if you worked it out with my 30+ business and personal trips from the UK to USA and Europe over the last 2.5 years on top of my daily travels to/from work and when out and about. The only damage is a some slight unstitching on the inside of the back pocket where the handles are. The shoulder strap could do with a little more padding, but then I might pack it too heavy when flying. Easy and quick access for getting your laptop in/out at airports is a bonus too.
Would get 5* if it wasn't for the strap, the unstitching is my fault for stuffing too much in!

    Great Bag

    • Written by from Durham

Very happy with this bag, fits my Pro, documents, charger, phone etc with room to spare. Had it out in the rain and had no problems.
One of the reasons I bought it was that I didnt want a cargo style bag and I didnt want a briefcase, this bag fits nicely in the middle. It is smart, practical and all at a resonable price.

Been using it for 3 years, and LOVE it

    • Written by from Muskego

I have a slightly different model (just different coloring) and I LOVE it. I've been using it for my macbook pro for over 3 years now and I have no complaints. It hasn't torn like other reviewers have said (maybe I'm just very nice to it?) But I cart around my laptop and charger to and from college and it fits all the basics without being huge and bulky. It took me a long time to find a bag that I liked, and this is the one. I'd definitely recommend it.

I was excited to purchase this bag for my 15.4" MacBook Pro because my sister had the smaller version for her 13" and absolutly loves it. However I got it and knew with in minutes that I would have to return it. The compartment for the computer is much too large. For my sleek and slim laptop is nothing like a good fit. It is good construction, nice look, but if it's for a MacBook Pro it's not gonna be secured.

    Caution about the strap

    • Written by from Lethbridge

Functionally I think this bag is great. Roomy, sturdy... all that good stuff.

I do have a complaint with the strap though. On my bag at least, there was a little protrusion in the strap. Some of the fibers weren't flush with the rest of the strap. Those fibers tore my jacket with-in an hour of buying the bag.

My advice, don't wear a nice fancy jacket or shirt while wearing the bag and you'll be OK.

    Good for MacBook Air

    • Written by from Tucson

I've been using this bag for a couple of years for my 13" MacBook Air. It is not bulky, which is nice for a shoulder bag. It is actually overly roomy for the Air, so I can fit more in it than just the laptop.

First thing I did was to cut off the heavy and useless handle on the top of the bag.

Only complaint is the large flap pocket which closes the bag. It is a little awkward to lift it up to get to the main compartment, especially if there is anything in it's zippered pocket. Think airport security line.

Overall, this is a nice looking, very functional bag. It is comfortable to carry. I get a lot of compliments on it.

    Good bag, good buy.

    • Written by from Carbondale

I spent the money on this bag, and its pretty good. The only qualm i have for it is that it doesen't keep the laptop completely immobile in the bag. Albeit, it has the best protection for your laptop that i have seen, outside of a hard case... which im having trouble finding, but as a college student, this was a good purchase.

    Ok protection...

    • Written by from Ovett

The case has a good design; however, it still has openings where the mac can get wet and the inside is not very soft for the mac which could cause scratching. Also the first week I had it, it slipped off my shoulder and fell about a foot to the ground and my mac still got dented up. It needs more padding... Not worth $40 in my book...

    Not a typical laptop bag

    • Written by from Gold Coast

I use this bag for uni and it has just enough room for my uni stuff (i.e lecture notes, pencil case etc) and ofcourse my MBP. It looks nice enough to look like just a casual bad and not a ugly typical laptop bag to say "look everyone I'm carrying a laptop".

    A very bad choice!!!!

    • Written by from Boulder

As many of the previous reviewers, I am very unhappy with this bag.

The flap is very annoying and the velcro is very loud when opening it.
The strap is very cheap, it ripped even without heavy duty use.
There is not that much room to carry books, if you do, it is very uncomfortable.
The handle is also annoying, you have to make sure you lift it up otherwise it will get between your body and the bag, it really bothers!!!!

Overall, I wish I had returned it within the warranty period, I have seen better bags for less money.

    A bit uncomfortable

    • Written by from Chicago

I use this as my briefcase, and the bag fits the computer well, with space for most of the items I want to carry around, but the 15" MacBook Pro is heavy, and I can't find a comfortable way to carry this bag without placing such a strain on my back. I'm tall & lanky and walk quite a bit. I'm not terribly fond of the noisy velcro fasteners, but it's an okay bag. I think I need to trade this in for a backpack.

    I like it !

    • Written by from MontrC)al

I had hesitate to buy that bag for my macbook pro 15 po. because I had read in a review it was too much place and the laptop is moving.

Finally, I bought it and I'm happy with it. I don't think the compartment is that large. Unless you run a marathon with it, the computer won't move that much. I don't feel it's moving.

I like it + it looks cool.

Best Bag on the Market for the Price

    • Written by

STM makes great stuff. Not sure how they can offer a lifetime warranty on a $45 bag, but they do. I carry my 15 MB some paperwork, my iPad and a bunch of chargers, headphones, and the like. Easy to keep organized. The grab handle is great for a quick grab or when traveling on public transit. Not a big fan of the velcro - I'm always late and hate announcing that fact. Otherwise a great bag for the money.

Reasonably Priced, Versatile & Excellent Protection for the 15" MacBook Pro

    • Written by from Dacula

I bought this for my new MacBook Pro for protection, versatility, and easy to carry tote bag. It has an ample amount of compartments to store accessories or to use in combination as a briefcase. The bag has the look and feel of quality construction. The interior is padded sufficiently to protect your new MacBook Pro. The shoulder strap is padded and can be removed easily to allow you to carry the bag as a briefcase.

I don't work for Apple, but the Apple Store is my first stop at doing any of my online shopping. The customer service and quick response to problems or returns if need be is a big plus that I look for in shopping at an online store.
