    Twice the Internet Speed!

    • Written by from North Hills

We just installed our Time Capsule last night and I used it to create a new wireless network. I checked the speed of our old wi-fi modem (Motorola Surfboard) and we were getting 52.34Mbps download speeds. Checked the new Time Capsule network and got a whopping 106.52Mbps! We're finally getting the speed we're paying for.

I am amazed on the speedy and ease of set-up. the back of my daughter mac book air is so intuitive. just had to activate the back up option on her mac book… should have purchased it long ago.

This is a great product and easy to install. I was using in 20 minutes. I think setup is easier with a Mac computer.

    Powerful under the hood

    • Written by from Lafayette

Being a wireless & security tech, I chose to test this device before making it the heart of my home network. What I discovered is that not only is the wireless rock solid when the device is placed properly in the premises (which many people neglect), but the easy-as-pie administration via AirPort Utility is surprisingly flexible and powerful. I was able to set up a very secure network with a hidden BSSID, a fairly secure guest network that broadcasts (think honeypot), and easily added extenders (Extreme and Extreme+) that allow me full streaming signal strength across 1 acre of property and anywhere in the house. The networking is in bridged mode so I get DHCP IPs from the cable modem, thus avoiding dual-NAT. Despite all the fiddling I do with my Macs, they all get backed up automatically and the drive and printer sharing has worked as well. I always take the time to make sure I'm spending my money smartly, but there simply wasn't any other product on the market as solid as this that could perform all of these functions, reliably and without a ton of drivers and setup time.

The best wireless ROUTER/BACKUP solution out there!

    • Written by from Juneau

This is by far the most functional and most controllable (with app) router via any iDevice/Mac! I love how it stable and quickly it backs up my MacBook Pro and other household Mac devices. It is possible to use it as a stand alone 'network drive' but that's not what this device is designed to be. Like I said, it is possible, you just have to search the 'net for the "how-to".

The internet connection is solid. Initially, it wasn't, but after updating the firmware, it runs like a champ. I have never had to reset this router at all since then (it's been at least 6 months or maybe even longer).

The tech specs and description speaks for itself, but if you use this as it is intended to be used (a backup source, hence 'time capsule' not 'network drive'); you will be more than pleased with it's speed, range and durability.

I'm so tired of these 1 star reviews tainting the final overall score of this exceptional product. Use it for what it is and rate it for what it's supposed to do, not what you were hoping it would or wouldn't be!

    LOVE this thing!

    • Written by from Moorhead

It's too bad about the experience the negative reviewers have had... Here's how my experience started:
    1) Receive the device a day sooner than expected
    2) Took it home over lunch break, opened the package, verified it was in perfect shape (it was)
    3) Removed my Netgear NightHawk router from my LAN
    4) Plugged necessary data cables into the device, then powered it up
    5) Made a trip to the next room to my iMac
    6) Spent PRECISELY three (3) minutes turning on Time Capsule and configuring the device via the Airport app in "Utilities"
    7) Started the first backup of my iMac (588 Gigs)
    8) Made and devoured a party pizza (15 minutes)
    9) Went to check, and discovered that everything was already done!

Fast, easy and, considering the backup potential with 3 TB, not terribly expensive. For real-world testing, I ran five speed tests using www.speedtest.net, and my 50/5MB connection tested at 48.6/4.73 via wireless.

    HAPPY CUSTOMER!

Is it expensive? yes... is it worth it? yes, at least for me... I have no idea why people say they had problem with the setup cause I did it all in my old iphone with absolutely no problems in less than 3 minutes. Love the design, is heavy but it needs to be is a back up plus you don't want it to easily knocked to the floor. I bought 3TB not that I needed it but why not?

    Great; Now!!

    • Written by from Desert Hot Springs

Had problems with the 2.4GHz band quitting intermittently. Called support and they replaced. Same thing with the replacement. So after much troubleshooting and head scratching; had an "ah ha" moment and moved the device a couple of feet away. It is now "rock solid". Still don't know why but it works; that's all that matters!!

    Easy install

    • Written by from Valencia

Easiest install ever. Had Time Capsule up and running in under 5 minutes. Had a 5th Gen Time Capsule and left it powered so the new one asked to copy settings and that was it. Done! Added an Airport Extreme to expand network and then finally re-added back in the original time machine to not only expand the network with 3 devices now have 2 time machines. The Time Machine asks which disks to back up to and since there are 2 is asks if I want to alternate backups on each one. Great Idea! Yes I do for redundancy.

After having a bad experience with another (different brand) back-up drive, I decided to give the Time Capsule a try. While expensive, I have found it is worth every penny. It serves as a 3TB back-up drive AND a 802.11ac router. AC wireless routers are expensive, so considering this gives you a cutting edge WiFi router in addition to 3TB of back-up storage, you really do get a lot of bang for your buck. Besides, it has been very reliable and is quite nice looking to boot. I would highly recommend this product!

    Fantastic

    • Written by from SOUTH EUCLID

A few weeks ago, I ordered this to replace my first or second gen (don't recall, it's been a while) Time Capsule. The old one was a refurb, and had seen better days. Signal strength was weakening, backup had stopped, it was refreshing IP and dropping connections. There are at least 10 devices in my house connecting all at the same time. I work from home. I was hesitant to order this one based on some of the reviews. If you're like me, don't hesitate. It's great.

Setup was a breeze. Did it from my iPhone. Backups from my Apple laptop started immediately. All devices connected seamlessly; no need to go through the password routine. Xbox, iPhones, Android phones, printers, Kindles, two work laptops, one personal laptop and more --- lots going on.

Signal strength is outstanding. I get 5 bars on my Windows laptop (my main work device) consistently, dropping to 4 at the lowest. I do a lot of VOIP talking through this laptop and voice quality in and out is good. Page loading is fast. Document uploads and downloads are great. I have good cable speed and could never understand why my uploads/downloads were so slow. This device has addressed that.

And lastly, the design is typically Apple genius. The vertical presence is much more friendly to being put on your desk top. Instead of hiding under some shelf and collecting months' worth of dust, it sits there like it's supposed to be there.

If it starts to fizzle out, I'll be sure to post another review, but so far -- Fantastic.

    Very Happy

    • Written by from Scottsdale

I've had the 3TB TC for about six months or so. It has been excellent. I connect my three Macs, MP 5,1 (just sold), 2012 mini and 2012 MBP by Ethernet when on my desk. The MBP and iPhone 5c frequently use WiFi. I've had no configuration or connection issues at all.

The poor thing has even been tortured a little bit by having the reconfigured mini and sold Mac Pro sparsebundles deleted. On another occasion I deleted the TC just to start out fresh with TM backups from the mini and MBP.

For awhile the TC was holding backups from all three Macs. Could I be happier? Sure, another couple of Ethernet ports and a 4TB or 5TB option.

    Brilliant stuff...with potentials for improvement

    • Written by from Aylesbury

What an "Apple night". Now Airport Time Capsule and Apple TV are happily running together. I've never experienced an easier network setup. With Airport I've plugged it into the network and it did everything automatically. All I have to do was to provide my ISP username and password. No need to web browser access to 192.etc addresses. The interface was very intuitive and I'm now running two WiFi networks, at 2.4 and 5 GHz so there is a better WiFi traffic distribution at home and the signal is stronger. Highly recommended. One suggestion: allow disk partitioning

    Seamless installation and connectivity

    • Written by from Singapore

The way my apartment is designed, I needed two 'networks' in the home - one for the front and one for the back. The problem was that in order to print I had to go to the back to print. I also had the old Time Capsule in the back and the Time Machine on my laptops would only work when I was in the back of the flat. Unfortunately, the old Time Capsule had only 1TB space, which was insufficient for 2 Macs in the home.
Decided to buy this new AirPort Time Capsule. Awesome connectivity. The whole home is covered with printing, scanning and backup for the 2 Macs. I now use, the old Time Capsule to save my Photo and Music libraries.
    No regrets - as usual.

    Well worth the $$$!

    • Written by from Memphis

We had a HD failure and immediately regretted not having one of these. The setup was easy and only took 5 minutes. I have not yet seen the speed enhancement that reviews have talked about so thats a bummer.

My only gripe is that it didn't come with a CAT 5/network cable. For $399, it should come with it even if its only a 3-5ft cable, simply because you need it. It wouldn't take much talent to throw one in the box. From a manufacturer cost perspective cables are dirt cheap.

The minute your MB Pro, iMac, or any IOS device fails it'll be worth its weight in gold.

Simple, fast, and excellent signal strength.

    • Written by from CLEARWATER

I am very impressed of how easy and fast it was to be up and running took all of 3 minutes after clicking for the first time.

1st the back up is easy and fast, and best of all its automatic.
2nd its all very seamless, to save to , access, and have in your house.
3rd its a ton of storage that will take a bit to fill up, but with ethernet and USB expandability you can add plenty more.

Buy it so worth it, and my wifi signal is nearly goof a block and half away.
