Very slow!!!! Muy muy muy muy lentoooooooo

    • Written by from Bogota

It's very slow!!! Made a backup using time machine take 14 hours (only 300 GB).
Es muy lento, copiar cualquier archivo toma horas. Hacer el backup con time machine puede llegar a tomar 14 horas y eso que son sólo 300 GB.

Not worth the money -- just get a firewire hard drive

    • Written by from Menlo Park

This product is immensely frustrating. It may work OK initially, but wait until you upgrade to the next gen software, like Mavericks. Want to plug it in via ethernet for longer backups -- get ready to try this multiple times and return to find a "Backup Failed" message for reasons that require a lot of effort to resolve. Unless you have an office environment, you're just going to turn off the "hourly" backups out of frustration. Want to change the frequency of the backups, get ready to buy a third party app that works about half the time. Do yourself a favor, just look at all of the support topics for this product and all of the frustrated users. Yes, the concept is great and it is another slick looking Apple product, but you're paying a lot of money for basic wireless functionality that's available from other dedicated storage makers.

    Great design poor execution

    • Written by from Northwood

This is a well designed product but the following do not work once you have set it up:
    - HP wifi printer - this was working just fine until I installed the TC 3TB. Apparently, one needs to connect it to the single USB port but that defeats the purpose of having a wifi printer!!
    - if you are using an ADSL router from Sky or BT, you cannot set up the guest network - complicated explanation but that does not work. and there is reams of information on google why that does not work

If you are only looking for extending your wifi network and hard disk space on your home wifi then this works very well right out of the box and hence just the two stars.

I am afraid mine is going back on Monday. I have to say this is the most underwhelming product ever to come out of Apple.

    Brilliant stuff...with potentials for improvement

    • Written by from Aylesbury

What an "Apple night". Now Airport Time Capsule and Apple TV are happily running together. I've never experienced an easier network setup. With Airport I've plugged it into the network and it did everything automatically. All I have to do was to provide my ISP username and password. No need to web browser access to 192.etc addresses. The interface was very intuitive and I'm now running two WiFi networks, at 2.4 and 5 GHz so there is a better WiFi traffic distribution at home and the signal is stronger. Highly recommended. One suggestion: allow disk partitioning

    No Thunderbolt or even USB3

    • Written by from Pymble

Let me say from the off that the concept is brilliant and I couldn't live without it...but...incredibly it does not have a Thunderbolt connection and even more incredibly, it doesn't even have USB3 on it. Now, I had to upgrade my old 1TB Time Capsule because it was so old and I am sure you can imagine how long it took to get the info on to this new 3TB TC. There is no point in singing about Thunderbolt from the roof tops if it isn't going to be on your latest storage device. This is in need of a serious upgrade and only adding USB3 simply won't cut. I'd prefer to go back to the old design as well, but that's just a personal preference.

Aside of the above gripes, it is tremendously practical and works well.

    Good but not Best!

    • Written by

Try to change to this new TC as my old router is beginning to deteriorate. See a lot of post here saying the range is excellent but my experience is it is slightly better than my old one but not 'extremely amazing'. Don't know if it is specific in Hong kong that the wall is made of cement, the signal get down to one slot only if it pass through two walls, though it is not far away from the TC.

Otherwise, the design and setup and automatic backup's function are wonderful.

And don't known why not using USB 3.0.....

    Seamless installation and connectivity

    • Written by from Singapore

The way my apartment is designed, I needed two 'networks' in the home - one for the front and one for the back. The problem was that in order to print I had to go to the back to print. I also had the old Time Capsule in the back and the Time Machine on my laptops would only work when I was in the back of the flat. Unfortunately, the old Time Capsule had only 1TB space, which was insufficient for 2 Macs in the home.
Decided to buy this new AirPort Time Capsule. Awesome connectivity. The whole home is covered with printing, scanning and backup for the 2 Macs. I now use, the old Time Capsule to save my Photo and Music libraries.
    No regrets - as usual.

    Well worth the $$$!

    • Written by from Memphis

We had a HD failure and immediately regretted not having one of these. The setup was easy and only took 5 minutes. I have not yet seen the speed enhancement that reviews have talked about so thats a bummer.

My only gripe is that it didn't come with a CAT 5/network cable. For $399, it should come with it even if its only a 3-5ft cable, simply because you need it. It wouldn't take much talent to throw one in the box. From a manufacturer cost perspective cables are dirt cheap.

The minute your MB Pro, iMac, or any IOS device fails it'll be worth its weight in gold.

Simple, fast, and excellent signal strength.

    • Written by from CLEARWATER

I am very impressed of how easy and fast it was to be up and running took all of 3 minutes after clicking for the first time.

1st the back up is easy and fast, and best of all its automatic.
2nd its all very seamless, to save to , access, and have in your house.
3rd its a ton of storage that will take a bit to fill up, but with ethernet and USB expandability you can add plenty more.

Buy it so worth it, and my wifi signal is nearly goof a block and half away.

    Slow router!

    • Written by from toronto

"Upgraded" to this from an older version of AirPort Extreme.

Have to re- boot this every couple of days.

I hard cabled my iMac to my router 'cause the airport is so unreliable. Right now my air book kept crapping out on internet. Did a speed test. On two wifi connected iBooks and my iPad vs. my hard wired iMac.

49.8 Mbps downloads hard wired to router....3.89 Mbps over the wireless network. And yes, I made sure no other devices were in the wireless network.

    Yeah, it is that bad.

Going to re hook up my old Extreame.

    $400 paperweight.

    Junk

    • Written by from Brisbane

I spent 6 hours trying to get this to work. Connected minimum cables to keep it simple. Power on and get solid amber as per book. Then it goes to flashing amber and stays there, no green light that indicates I can go to setup utility. Modem is working, existing wifi is working. This second time that Apples "simple setup" is not so simple. Will try again later today, then it's back to Apple Shop for a replacement or refund. There are cheaper alternatives for faster wifi but not so pretty.

    massive waste of money

    • Written by from TAMARIN

I recently got the 3TB APTC. It was very easy to set up and works well as a router, however its a COMPLETE FAIL as a hard drive which is the the selling point (price) of the device. It constantly looses wireless connection with my early 2013 Macbook Pro, which in turn means I can't back up anything.. Through reading posts, it seems to be a Mavericks problem, but Mavericks has been out for months now and this problem should have been resolved by now!!
To top it all off, to create a wired connection to my mac I now need to buy a ethernet-thunderbolt connection from apple, because my macbook deosnt have ethernet and the APTC doesn't have Thunderbolt.. really annoyed!!
Don't buy until apple resoles this issue..

    Hopeless

    • Written by from Brighton

Works well as a router but hopelessly slow as a backup. 6 hours for 2GB. It's a bug but I'm not prepared to wait for a fix. This has to go back. far too expensive just for an Airport Extreme with an unusable hard drive. Meant to give zero stars but that's not an option.

the signal strength is improved over the previous model, but the "power save" feature means a 5 second delay every time I go back to the network.

Like a few have mentioned here, white is horrible and clashes with everything, even your other black and silver Apple products. So I got (non metallic) paint and fixed it.

Get it together Apple, you make NOTHING else white except the worst selling color of phones. Make this match!

Five stars for the software, minus two for the awkward design and color, usually Apple's forte, so a little disappointed.

    Poor Wifi Range

    • Written by from Frisco

Purchased new a few months ago as a replacement/upgrade to my old Netgear wifi unit. Also like the combo feature of storage plus wifi.

I do a lot of work on my back patio so range is very important. My old Netgear unit provided plenty of range (4-5 bars) but this new Airport is much lower, usually around 2 bars and very slow.

The unit is two rooms away from my patio and there are no obstructions. I probably should have returned the unit but kept in hope that I could somehow improve the range. The unit is about 40 ft from my patio connected to my iMac.

The storage capability seems to work just fine but is you are looking for a solid wifi product I think I would consider other alternatives.

    My first 3TB Time Capsule

    • Written by from Peoria Heights

I walked into the store in search for a decent size capacity hard drive and in the back of my mind was hardwired G drive maybe with 1TB of storage. The associate recommended the time capsule and unlike me I did not ask a trillion questions, nor did I research the item before I made the purchase. Its fantastic to access and save to 3TB, in addition I can access with all my iOS devices over there wireless web. Im still researching how to access the time capsule over cellular, but so far Im coming up empty handed. I give this item a very high rating due to the size, space and honestly folks about everywhere we go we have wireless access. Its like having your own cloud.
