    Worst Apple product yet.

    I had the old version of this which worked GREAT for about 7 years. No issues. Then the software updates made it to where my Mac would no longer communicate with the now ancient white brick.

    So, I updated to this one about a year ago. Worked just fine, initially. Now, streaming music over Airplay works maybe 10% of the time and now the Wifi is dropping out. I've connected via ethernet and reset SEVERAL times to fix the issue and once I attach it to my existing wireless network, I can no longer connect to the internet. It was like watching someone's health get progressively worse. And out of warranty, out of luck.

    HOW? How could Apple release such an inferior product?

    Does what it says on the tin

    Bought this today to extend the wifi range upstairs in the house where I have a problem with single strength. I took the Airport Express out of the box connected into the power socket in a location midway from my Airport Extreme and where the weak signal spot is. Within 10 minutes I was connected and up and running, super duper.

    I wanted these to be amazing

    I bought an AirPort Time Capsule and two Expresses to extend the network.

    I find myself rebooting the Expresses on a regular basis just to have them come up and barely boost my network. The Internet is unusable when connected to either of the Expresses and usually end up using my iPhone's cellular connection. I got both replaced thinking it was just extreme bad luck but as it turns out even with the latest firmware these Airports are frustratingly disappointing.

    Apple makes great products but maybe wireless is something best left for the Netgears of the world.

    Hopefully a firmware update will come soon but I am most definitely not holding my breath, until them I am purging my house of these sadly sub-par routers and extenders.

    ...but that was years ago. They are frustrating and opaque. They work until they don't. A ten or twenty dollar bluetooth device is almost certain to be better. I own Apple stock, and I challenge anyone to name a worse Apple product.

    Staff at Apple Store explained in simple language what to do, so I bought one and brought it home and had it running in less than 10 minutes as an extension of my Time Capsule. So simple. Well done Apple.

    Great for apple products, does not work with any other routher!

    Not for anything other than Apple products. Apple has set up the express to only extend apple networks. They say it is easy but if you have any router other than an apple product creating your network, you can not use an express to extend a network. If found this out the hard way and I'm a little upset about it. My time capsule will no longer boot, it was creating my network for my business. This put my entire company off line and prevented my system from backing up. It was also baking up my office computer that handles all accounting and photography work. This was a huge frustration. I decided instead of putting everything into one basket so that when it crashed at least the other would still work. I was going to get a router and an external drive for the back up. Well, now I can't extend my network anymore. Thanks Apple for not letting people know about this!

    Worst Apple product ever

    If you are using this as a stand alone wifi router it's mediocre at best. Trying to add it to an existing wifi network and having it work consistently is a joke. If you do get lucky and get it to work NEVER change anything with your network. That's $80 I'll never get back.

    Just bought my new Airport Express

    Incredible - my last router lasted 11 years. I am sold on Apple! I set up my Airport Express in 3 minutes!!! Highly recommend this device. All my devices recognized it immediately! I am sold!!!

    worked great for a year

    I HAD one that worked well for the first year, then it started cutting out every now and then and it was all down hill from there. Once it started cutting out when playing music it was dead within 2 or 3 months. Would like another one but not gonna keep spending $100 every year for a new airport express.

    Replacing BT Infinity HomeHub 5

    Bought this to replace a BT Infinity HomeHub 5, which has been unreliable from day one, with WiFi just disappearing all the time, sometimes the Internet connection going away, and generally I wasn't happy with it.

    It's really very easy to replace the HomeHub 5. However, it doesn't work if you just have the OpenReach faceplate in your home; you need the OpenReach modem, which plenty of people sell on eBay for a few pound (I paid £7 including postage); you plug the OpenReach modem in the wall, the AirPort Express into the modem, set it up with Airport Utility, and you are up and running in five minutes.

    So far it has been running much smoother than the HomeHub, with no problems at all. The HomeHub was fine once it got going, big downloads were fine, but it sometimes struggled with the simplest websites, and the Airport Express doesn't.

    Flawless!

    I bought this together with an Airport Extreme, mostly as a WiFi extender to bring internet to a somewhat remote location on my property. After a simple setup of the Airport Extreme, this little device simply began to work, before I could even download it's utility. Doesn't get better than that. A vast improvement over my previously used and utterly unreliable netgear router system. I used the utility/app only to double check and set up a guest network. I am very pleased with this product.

    Great for Airplay

    I bought this about 2 months ago so I could use Airplay from my iPad Air. It does the job well and setup was very easy. My only complaint is that this 2nd gen Airport Express does not have AC wifi, which makes an otherwise great device antiquated. Apple should know by now that it's customers are generally willing to pay a bit more for for state-of-the-art technology, so there is really no excuse for this device to NOT be the perfectly matched companion to the AC wifi capable Airport Extreme. Apart from that, I am not disappointed.

    I expected better

    The Bad
    --Does not play well with other routers - May or may not be related to the second issue
    --Frequently requires complete reset - Sometimes in 1 hour, sometimes 2 weeks
    --Low-to-moderate connectivity - 5 feet away feels same as 50 feet
    --5G doesn't work - Super slow and only works for about a minute, then it just hangs until next reset

    The Good
    --Super simple to setup
    --Compact
    --Generally has enough bandwidth for Netflix (only on 2.4ghz)

    Overall Experience : Disappointing
    --Barely an improvement from the dumpster router it replaced.
    --Gave me a lot of grief. Took a lot of effort to achieve stability, I suspect this is caused by non-apple routers in the network.

    Almost never works - audio drops constantly!

    I bought the 2nd gen because Apple kindly stopped allowing my to connect to my old device so I can no longer configure it. I've tried every setting but my Mac can rarely connect to this new one. My iPhone and iPad can find it easier but the audio drops every few seconds making it completely useless. All other devices I have can connect just fine to the network. Online help is useless. I'm returning it.

    Express Depress

    I love all things Apple--till now. Bought to replace an oldie but goodie Netgear router for wifi for my Imac, Macbook and iPhone. Out of the box, despite numerous tries, Express simply would not connect. Spent two hours with my Cox cable tech, the local Apple Retailer (where I bought) it, and AT&T (for my M-Cell booster), plus Mac online help. Kept getting a flashing amber light indicating no connection. Unplugged, re-plugged all connections, etc. Flat out refused to work. A possible, maybe, problem might be compatibility with AT&T M Cell, but still not sure. What I am sure is that in between attempts I reconnected my old Netgear router and it worked--and still does. Had to return Express. I dunno. I really wanted it to work.

    Airport Express

    After having trouble with Netgear routers I purchased to AirPort Express. Setup was extremely easy. The speed of my WiFi improved dramatically over my Netgear model 4500. Setting up the guest network was quick and easy. I highly recommend this product.

    when i first bought this i wasn't sure how to use it because i thought it extended the wireless network i was on, while i was at a hospital at the time their wifi wasn't the best so i thought this would simply make it better but i was wrong. i held onto it until i moved into a home and hooked up the new network and come to find out it saved me 50 bucks by essentially working as wireless router. and my signal is strong and it works better then i ever imagined thank you apple keep up the good products. home run with this...

    Incredible product !!!

    Amazing Apple product, I was desperate to improve my Sky hub's (SR102) stability and speed. Setup with direct Ethernet connection to hub/router, created new wireless network on Airport Express, then disabled wireless on router. Devices attached include multiple phones, tablets etc as well as Airplay speaker and NAS drive. All working like a charm! Fibre optic connection restored to previously unseen speeds! The device provides amazing stability and range of the wireless signal, perfect for small flat. Still exploring its capabilities. Dual band wireless extremely useful as well if you have new devices that support 5GHz. Overall impressed.
