Great, though it depends on your other equipment

    • Written by from BIRMINGHAM

I mainly bought this for AirPlay use - it's superb. I can now box away my old CD player and CD's

However, one other feature which I hoped would be better was to use it as a wireless bridge to an existing network. Now if you have an Airport Extreme it works (from what I've read) - but for me with a Draytek (Seems it only really likes the Airport Extreme) router it doesn't.

It's not the end of the world to be honest - I should have read up about it first and as it's primary role is AirPlay I'm very happy with that.

Overall a nice product, same size as the Apple TV 2/3 and the fact it's got a separate mains cable now means it doesn't fall out of the wall like the previous version of the express.

I literally opened the new Airport Extreme box and plugged in 2 cords and wall-laa its done. I never used to get wifi in my 2 story house... Now I get full coverage wifi all the way to my mail-box and the routher is in the basement! Excellent product!

It even has airstream for your music? Wireless from your phone to speakers in your house?
Its sooo legit..... HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. (and yes im screaming it at you) for $108 at best-buy you absolutely can NOT go wrong.

Reason for buying.... Just bought a new Macbook Pro "15.4" non-retina display and needed wifi considering my whole house is hard wired. All I did was connect a ethernet cord from the moden to the wifi now I have hardwire for the whole house and wifi for friends or laptops that are in the house and it doesnt even slow the connection! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! BUY IT

Bought this when I moved. Hooked it up to my cable modem, printer and speakers.
Works well. I consistently get 5GHZ signal. Airplay works well with my iphone, macbook pro but not my ipod touch (gen 2).

    I recommend it!

    WiFi Perfection - Thankyou

    • Written by from Woodbridge

At last....I now have a wireless network that covers the whole house. Easy to setup and extend an existing Airport network. I am using 1 x Airport Extreme and two of these new Airport express base stations connected together over Netgear powerline adapters. Complete WiFi coverage with seamless switching when moving around the house. The added bonus of Airplay and network access to USB printers is superb.

    Excellent function, puzzling design

    • Written by from Brookline

I love Apple, but this product puzzles me. Yes, it does work beautifully, and it's a snap to set up. That's huge. But the design is curious. The old Airport Express base station could be plugged into an outlet in a hallway or anywhere else. This one is more of a production, with a long cord, and a shape that demands to be put onto a tabletop or something. You just have to hope that in designing your home network, you can find good placement for your base stations in spots where there happen to be tables—oh, and then of course you have to look at the base station all the time, instead of the old kind, which sat down around ankle level, unobtrusive in the room, and worked just great.

One more thing. The base of the unit is tapered in such a way that after you've plugged in the power cord and the ethernet cable, it doesn't want to stand properly. It wants to tip. If the cords hang down off the tabletop, as cords are after all wont to do, they tend to pull at the back of the unit, leaving it looking as if it's popped a wheelie.

I really don't know what was wrong with the old one, but if they had to redesign it, I'm not sure why those chose this particular way of doing it.

    Great addition to AirPort Extreme

    • Written by from Birmingham

I've extended my wireless AirPort Extreme network with Airport Express. Setup is simple, signal strength is great and response time is outstanding. The Extreme is connected to a high speed cable modem in an upstairs study and the express is placed in a downstairs family room. I'm accessing the Internet via the Express with an iPad, a laptop, an iPhone, and a Blu Ray player and have experienced no problems whatsoever.

    Unusable - constantly drops network

    • Written by from Toronto

Purchased this to extend the network from my Time Capsule and in "extend a network" mode it is constantly dropping the network requiring a reboot to join again then drops again after 5-15 minutes. Works slightly better in "join a network" mode. Had to go back to my previous generation Airport Express which isn't as fast but is perfectly reliable.

There are many with the same issues yet no firmware update has been issued by Apple, Google "new airport express extend drops network" to see the scope of the issue.

    Super easy to setup

    • Written by from Bern

Bought one for the office (and travelling) having had for years the Airport Extreme at home.

This was super easy to setup via my iPad. Plugged it in to ethernet WAN and power. IPad found it via the settings/wifi and then I could rename it and set a password.

So easy to setup and use. Thank you !

    Phenomenal Upgrade!

    • Written by from Rockford

Love the AIRPORT EXPRESS!! It is an excellent upgrade with much more flexibility than the old AIRPORT EXPRESS, plus it provides a turbo boost to my home wireless network when I paired it with a Fifth Gen. AIRPORT EXTREME BASE STATION. I'm getting 5mbps and greater download and 2+mbps upload from a network that usually delivered only half that speed, at best! My network IPS is also wireless to my home from a nearby tower so download/upload speed was not consistent and often sluggish due to bandwidth overload at the tower. However, for some reason that I can't quite fathom, my all-APPLE wireless network seems to have solved that problem once and for all! So I am a happy Apple fanboy, once again! Oh, and one more thing. It has extended the range of the old network by at least 75%, if not greater. So do yourself a favor, and install an all-APPLE wireless network in your home and join the APPLE Happy Club! (No, I do NOT work for APPLE nor do I own stock, unfortunately, lol).

Yesterday I bought the AirPort Express in the Apple Store in Amsterdam. I bought it to extend my wireless network. The installation was almost completely automatic! Just 2 minutes and it was ready! This is really a stunning product, both in terms of usability and design. A 5 star rating isn't even enough!

    Everyman's WiFi Network

    • Written by from Fort Worth

I bought the Airport Express Base Station to replace two older AEs, one extending my network on the 2.4 GHz band and the other extending the network on the 5 GHz band. I plugged the new AE base station in and launched Airport Utility 6.1. Airport Utility detected my existing network and in seconds had configured the new base station to extend my network both the 2.4 and 5 GHz. The only action I had to take was to click the button to update the AE. It could not possibly have been easier. Even the greenest novice should be able to set up a relatively sophisticated wireless network with this combination.

    Apple and HP... Lovely combo...

    • Written by from Braselton

I'm not one to write reviews but this is the best wireless station you can buy! The AirPlay is sooo sweet with the right set of 3.5mm jack speakers. I got the Print feature to work using HP ePrint app ( I have an older Photosmart C4280). The app detected the printer. Transferring files to this app from Pages or accessing documents through the supported cloud drives is a breeze! Hit the print button and its good to go! Thank you Apple!

    Very disappointed

    • Written by from Scottsdale

Bought this to supplement the WiFi range of my combination cable modem/router and to enable by wireless network printer. Using all Apple products (iMac, iPads, and iPhones), this was a very easy device to set up. After unpacking and connecting to the appropriate ports, the installation was fairly intuitive and I was up-and-running in less than 10 minutes. The initial use of this device was successful with both a working wireless printer and improved WiFi range, although only slightly improved. After two days, though, the printer stopped wirelessly responding on my network. This was despite my not changing any settings, then trying to get it back on-line unsuccessfully.

Since the WiFi range was minimally improved and the wireless printer function was not enabled, considering the $100+ investment with tax for an unreliable accessory, I brought back the device and got my money back..

    Doesn't work with certain routers

    • Written by from London

I bought this to function as a wireless range extender. After being advised in store that this would work with my setup, I spent a good couple of hours trying to get it to work. Everything went well until changing the Airport's function settings to "Extend". As the "updating settings" was happening, a message would eventually pop up saying that the airport could not be found. I reset the Airport and tried again several times to no avail.

Upon then doing some Googling, I found that certain routers/ISPS will not allow wireless extenders. Mine was one of these unfortunately (Be's Technicolor Gateway). So I now have to return the Airport. Just a heads up for any other customers tearing their hair out during setup, and perhaps a note of caution to Apple sales advisors to be aware of.
