I use this to connect to the VGA port of my Asus back-lit LED monitor. It works great. (I'm not sure what other's are saying that it doesn't work.)

    Works PERFECTLY!!!

I bought this cable to give a presentation for a college class (yes my grade was riding on the presentation) and it worked perfectly. Not only did it automatically register the projector when I hooked it up but it changed the resolution to match the projector. I did not shut down or reboot, I just plugged it in and it worked like a MAC... Flawless.

People are silly for writing bad reviews because they failed to research

    • Written by from Chandler

This product works great, I've had it for over a year. Use it somewhat regularly on my MacBook Pro 10.8.6.

Here's an idea if you're looking for an adapter, know your computer or device! Don't just assume by breezing through descriptions that the first thing you find is what you need. With technology development the way it is, it's probably good to learn terminology of what you have so you know when it becomes obsolete (which, with Apple, could be any day! ;)). Also if you want to knock Apple for "overpriced" items, don't buy Apple- that simple.

If you don't know what a mini displayport is, or if you just don't know what you have, take photos of the input devices on your computer and the device you're trying to connect it to. Show them to Apple Store employees and they'll find what you need. If you're ordering online and don't have access to an Apple store, go to Best Buy first. If you live in the woods and don't have access to either of these, do some research. Doesn't take much time!

    Works very well

I must say i'm quite impressed with the adapter. While I was disappointed that Apple charges $30+ for it and it really should be provided as standard with a new Macbook Pro, that's a whole other story. i have used it on my 2009 13" MBP, Pioneer 507 XDA plasma, 32" LCD TV, various data projectors and never had a problem with it. My experience is It doesn't matter if the MBP is on or off, or whether the tv is on or off, it just seems to work. Also, cloning the MBP display or extending the screen is simple and never causes a problem.
The only problem i've had with it is if i let the MBP go into 'sleep' mode, disconnect the adapter and 'wake' the MBP, sometimes i can't get a picture back on the MBP and have to restart it. It was never a problem with OS X Snow Leopard, only with Lion; so i'm blaming Lion for this problem.

    Very nice adapter

I really don't know why people say theirs don't work with the TV especially Samsung's. I don't have Samsung's TV, but mine works great. It works with Dell screen, Sony TV, Acer projector... There is only one Con in my opinion. It is just way too pricy. Otherwise, this is just a fabulous product.

Two years of use with no problems

    • Written by from Broomfield

I bought this adapter in Nov 2009 to use with my then-new MBP for use in interfacing with our Proxima projectors for meetings, approx. 8-10 a month. So, that's now two years without any weird quirks or issues (knock on wood?). Then again I take great care in re-packing and protecting the accessories I use for for this laptop when finished using them and am putting it all away... for example this VGA adapter... so therein might be a good reason these fail for others (certainly not in all cases). I read some reviews and had to wonder... how carefully are they treating the stuff? How honest are they being with themselves? Just sayin'.

    Works For Me

I use this to attach my macbook air to a projector. I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews as they work fine and last a while. It is a little expensive I guess but it is good quality and does seem to last a while. I would recommend this.

    Works like a charm

    • Written by from Mazan

I never write reviews on the web, however I thought this time it was worth it.

I had my doubts about this product after reading the previous reviews. Half the people were saying that it didn't work properly on this screen, that projector...
Which got me wondering. How can this be ? How can Apple release a product that only half works, slap a 30€ price tag on it, and get away with it ?

So I decided to buy one, despite the negative feedback, and I couldn't be happier.
I'm using this adaptor for a 2010 Macbook Pro 15, and have successfully got it working on both screens I have tried: a Dell VideoProjector, and a PackardBell 19 inch monitor. And my god does this make a difference when working with multiple windows. The screen extension setting means you work on your normal laptop (normal resolution, normal everything), and have another monitor beside it, as big as you like. No more looking for windows.

I have only had it for a day, let's hope it still works a couple of weeks from now !

To put it simply: completely worth the 30€.

Works with Mac Book laptops, not with Mac Pro desktops

    • Written by from State College

The adapter Works with Mac Book Pro, Mac Book Air laptops connecting to a projector or screen up to 23 in. I use one all the time.

It does NOT work with mini display ports on the Radeon HD cards in a Mac Pro. Those require the $99 adapter even for small screens and projectors. Apple techs explained that the Radeon HD mini display ports are different from the Mac Book ones.

I have recently got this as I wanted to use my Macbook Pro for work. I have tried it on two different light projectors with no issues. I decided to do some experimenting with cables after reading a lot of negative feedback just to see what might be happening.

It turns out that four of the five cables i used with the two projectors worked fine but one was giving me a Dual Screen effect without the benefits.

My thoughts would be that it's a cable issue rather than the Adapter.

I have also run with a Samsung monitor in dual screen, again no issues.

This product was just what I expected. It worked great with all of the displays that I have used it for so far. It even worked for my Samsung T.V. the first time I tried. Overall this product was a very satisfying buy and I am glad I purchased it! I would greatly encourage you to buy this if you are debating about purchasing this product.

So I read all the reviews and a ton of people seem to be having trouble with this adapter. It worked on my Sony WEGA Bravia 40" without any issues. I plugged the VGA cable into the adapter first and then plugged it into my unibody macbook 13". The screen on the laptop blinked and the imaged displayed on the tv. So far so good...keeping my fingers crossed

    Testing it!

I am using the adapter with a MBP (MacBook Pro) mid 2013; it is connected to the Lightning Port which doubles as a Mini Display Port.

So far, I've used it for about a week with two monitors a 24" Dell S2409W (1920 x 1080 native) and a 20" HP W2072a (1600 x 900 native) both flat panels. It has been used in both the "Extended" and "Clamshell" modes, so the external monitor is either the second extended monitor or used alone as the primary monitor in clamshell.

The adapter feels slightly warm to the touch, but it is certainly not hot. It fits snugly into the Lightning/Mini Display Port and feels secure while the other end holds the VGA cord well enough.

No problems thus far (again only one week and two flat panel monitors). Perhaps, I can comment or append this after a longer period of time has passed.

Although, the other reviews of premature failure have me a bit curious and scared. I have an older version (Mini DVI to VGA) that I have used since 2007 to now (Feb 2013) on my old white MacBook and it has always been reliable.

Hopefully, this new adapter proves as reliable as the old.

Audio, for me, is handled by plugging my external speakers into the microphone jack, and that works well too.

For now, the Mini Display Port to VGA adapter gets 5 stars as it works well in my, as yet, limited experience.

I use this cable with a late-2008 MacBook aluminum and NEC 1770GX. I watch movies/videos on the NEC while surfing the internet on my MacBook. It works perfectly. Set up was negligible -- just a minute to plug in the cable. Refreshingly simple and highly recommended.
